ARCHIVED She Keeps Sneaking :(
Darn210 replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
SGWhiskers gave you some good feedback. Three is too young to understand. You're going to have to take precautions. Two pieces of advice from me: First, I'm assuming the other kids are older and if you don't want to take the whole house gluten free, you need to enlist their help. They need to keep their food/snacks away from her . . . and not eat them... -

...and if it works for Becky, I just might give it a go. I've set a goal to lose 18 pounds by June 1st. I lost about 21 pounds last spring/summer only to gain about 10 of it back - 5 of that was between Thanksgiving and New Years. I would think I would lose weight fairly quickly on the cat food diet. -

Update: First, to bring all psillies up to speed . . . Skeeter (code name for me daughter) participated in a scavanger hunt at her orthodontist's office. She had to get her picture taken (with a banner from the office or wearing her T-shirt which had the office's name on it) with/at 100 different items/locations. Stuff like . . . in the produce aisle... -

How old is she? . . . I think advice on strategies to help her stick to the diet will depend on her age. -

I'm losing track . . . it seems like everything Jess (and Loey) write is now a euphemism for . . . ummmm . . . hanky-panky. Do champagne, breakfast and fireworks now all mean "riding the broomstick?" -

Here's a link to some info Open Original Shared Link -
We've used Ortega and I think Old El Paso both just fine . . . I don't remember which taco seasoning is made by which company, but ConAgra and Unilever and Kraft will list any sources of gluten in their labeling so generic "spices" or "natural flavoring" will disclose "(from barley)" or whatever if it is the source. Off the top of my head, the only packaged...

ARCHIVED Asian Market Rice Flours
Darn210 replied to MartialArtist's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Flying Horse (it's the only brand that they carry). We have never had any issues with it. I use it mostly for my cake/cupcake recipe so it's not something that we ingest on a daily basis (I use Authentic Foods Fine Ground Brown Rice Flour in the recipe for my everyday flour blend). I prefer the Flying Horse brand quite a bit over Bob's Red Mill because... -

Have just realized . . . we have not watched "A Christmas Story" yet this year. My kids use the phrase "Fra-GEE-lay . . . must be Italian" year round. Tried a new recipe from the secretary at my kids' school . . . in theory, it looked good and easy . . . in practice, it has bonded to the pan. May have to pitch it (pan and all). -
ARCHIVED Negative Bloodtest
Darn210 replied to kris1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm glad to hear you are going to give it a several months . . . some people see a big difference within days . . . some people take longer. Any input from your mom on how you did when you were gluten free? Why did you go back on it? (It was common to think that you could outgrow it.) I've switched to hard cider. I was not a big beer drinker... -

Darn210 replied to Franceen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Udi's bread says soy free. The Bisquick does not list soy as an ingredient but lists a "may contain soy" disclaimer.
