  1. If he does better w/o the gluten in your system, then do it. If you want a firm dx, you will have to find a Pedi GI who is willing to test an exclusively bf baby or wait. My pedi GI stated he would not test until 9 mo old and exposure to wheat for at least 3 mo - that would mean feeding a 6 mo old wheat right out the door into solids Given we have ...
  2. I stopped vaxes when my ds2 was having problems. I have waited until all his health problems have been answers and we are still working on some answers. I will say that there is a connection to Measles and the gut, this includes the measles vaccine. The gut connection is the main reason I have never had my ds2 vaxed for measles. Some doctors do not recognize...
  3. Well, I know gluten proteins do pass into breastmilk. There are pub med studies that have proven this already. Infants have and continue to have Failure to Thrive and Celiac is fortunately mentioned in literature with FFT, although added to that is parental neglect... And we do know that gluten sensitivity in the mother (whether identified or not) would...
  4. There is a blood test that checks progesterone levels. I would suggest having it checked very early in pregnancy (as soon as you think you are) and have it monitored. If it is low then you need it to carry the pregnancy. If it is normal you don't need it to carry the pregnancy. I would hate to have a miscarriage b/c I didn't want to take progesterone...
  5. I also felt very hungry gluten-free. I was craving starches and would load up on potatos So not good for my waist line. I would eat the bread I made with high protein grains and I would still feel hungry within 30 min or less. Never satisfied for long. Meat, potatoes, veggies, salad, I was full but not satisified. I was gluten-free for 4 months...
  6. I would double check everything you are putting in your mouth, including calling the manufacture of the prenatals. Be sure you are also not doing oats, not even safe oats, especially if you are DQ2. I would then eliminate the following 1 by one to see if it is a major allergen 1) Dairy 2) Soy 3) Corn 4) Corn related gluten-free grains like Sorghum...
  7. I did some research about the product Ambrotose, what I share is my own research for the benefit of my FIL who was interested in the product. I do not work for Mannatech or any other health sort of company. I am a stay at home mom with quite a bit of bio-chemistry knowlege, even though my final college degree was in Economics and Accounting. I self study...
  8. The best advice it to not have the gluten stuff around the house, ditch it all... That isn't always possible. If that isn't possible, find gluten-free treats you like let go of the Price tag and just have a bag of those Kinni donuts around, they are good. WholeFoods GlutenFree Bake House sandwich bread is very tolerable, warm. I have a lunch box in the...
  9. Ditto this -- blood sugar can make you ill. I found high simple sugars was the only thing that helped in my last pregnancy w this problem, but I've had 2 lay midwives both tell my MS is almost always a low sugar problem and do eat what ever I could get down. It was Schwan's Lemon Ice (total junk) and Sweet Ice Tea.
  10. I'm sorry that the donation bank feels that DH is a problem b/c once on the gluten-free diet, the symptoms should disappear and not be a problem. There is no problem nursing your own baby, rest assured. BF that baby and love him dearly... gluten-free breastmilk might do him some good. Gluten proteins do pass into bm, I have PUB MED to back my statement...
  11. I found our local hospital's ability to handle food prep properly deplorable. When I had my last hospital birth the meal brought was inedible, way too much salt. My mother called the manager and she stated that there was no way it had salt in it b/c they do not use salt. I told the woman that might be true, but this is too salty to even eat and I would...
  12. Adreanal fatigue? If it isn't thyroid... Something has shut down the metabolism and there are quite a few different medical reasons as possibilities -- Thyroid is #1 on that list. Maybe a read through The Diet Cure by Julia Ross

    ARCHIVED Acne

My skin cleared up quite a bit gluten-free, not perfect as I was having hormal surges from just giving birth. I think detoxing is a good explaination as to the why you are now breaking out and I would encourage you to have faith it will clear. I've been using ProActiv since May of 06 and it took nearly 6 months for it to be 99.5% clear all the time...
  14. We use bribary... My dh takes the kids for blood draws, I have no patiences and they seem to act up with me but not him. Anyway, he takes them to the toy store afterward and buys them something around the $25 mark is my guess on the price. Our oldest does much better knowing he is going to the toy store afterwards. A gentle reminder gets his mind off...
  15. One of my sons has Celiac, confirmed. When he was dx'd my dd was too little for testing and the GI only tested if symptoms were present. Well, given she is so close in age, she eats what he eats, it's easier on me. Lately, I've purchased gluten products for her and another son who was tested not Celiac. And lately her poo composition has changed. She...
  16. There might be a way around this. I haven't tried it, but if I needed to I would. So far there have been no problems with school for one child who is not offically dx'd. The pediatrician we use has written "gluten free diet for possible Celiac Disease" on the school forms. It is possible to transfer docs, fill out the medical history as Celiac,...
  17. There are several reasons I want the "offical" dx. 1) outs him for military service no question, 2) makes dealing with schools easier b/c you have "legal" backing to get such things as an MIP/ IEP or 501, etc Not just grade school, but college as well (it outs the requirement of Freshman must be on campus and 3) Dr states compliance w diet in teens is better...
  18. Entrolab is out b/c IgA deficiency runs in the family and the stool tests like the blood tests are based of those IgA antibodies. I could be wasting $$$ if the baby is also IgA def. Wouldn't it be nice to know sooner rather than later? I guess it isn't a reality yet.
  19. I understand that the blood tests are not all that accurate and that accuracy is less the younger a child is. I would gather to guess it has to do with the immune system and it's maturity level. My first child at age 3 tested fine, he's IgA deficient, so the there was only 1 blood test that came back positive. We are going to likely tests our youngest...
  20. at age 3 my Celiac went gluten-free, the change was almost immediate. The diarrhea stopped in the first 3 days. Behavioral changes were on going monthly. He never really knew what "pain" was to say he was in pain, simply b/c he had never known any different, poor thing. I will say he did have leg pain on and off those first few months and I had no idea...
  21. My son has dropped below the 10th percentile. It's so frustrating. I do know that gluten has to be in the diet to be tested via blood test or biopsy, it's the only way at this time. So, we're eating gluten waiting for the appt. It's a struggle every day b/c I know how to fix it all, but at the same time we need the gold standard dx for several reasons...
  22. I thought I would post and revive this one... The OP did not respond back w the tests results for us to know why they were inconclusive. I hope she can do that. But here is what happened to us. The TTG IgA was run, it came back negative. The total serum IgA was low, but not below normal for this labs qualifying assay. We had a specialist who used a different...
  23. I had a son reacting at birth who was not dx until age 3. With my next at the first signs I went gluten-free and problem resolved. It hurts nothing to try it. I would eliminate dairy first though as that is more common cause of poo irregularity.
  24. Celiac can't present itself in a formula only fed baby. Similac formulas are gluten free, I called and checked for my own child this year. For the scenario of a colicky baby on dairy formula it is probably dairy, switching to an allergy free is probably enough to solve the problem. Do not recommend soy, it is an allergen equal to dairy as well as just...
  25. You might want to get a gold standard biopsy dx before going gluten-free. I made that mistake and regretted it. TO make a child sick again to get a dx was just plain horrific (as well as illogical, but that is the way the system works). I see no reason that you can not insist on a biopsy, especially if the gene marker is present.
