  1. i too get the underarm/side lymph node pains sometimes but far less often now than when i started this, around 2 1/2 months ago. it's a weird feeling and took me a while to even figure out what was hurting but like i said, much better now, only occasionally hurts at night.
  2. Hi everyone, Just wondering, during illness and recovery, how much work you ended up missing? Or if anyone dropped down to part-time? Or even, in retrospect, how long off or how reduced would you have gone back to work during your recovery if you knew then what you know now? I work in schools so was really fortunate to have the summer off to recover...
  3. I might guess that maybe she is gettting cross-contiminated somewhere as it feels really horrible and since she can't really tell you she feels ill, this would make her act unusual, cry, etc. If I didn't understand fully what was going on and that there is an end to the misery in sight once I've healed more, I'd probably be crying too. Also, I would suggest...
  4. I too was diagnosed with Meneire's disease and put ona diaretic and Claritin. 3 days later I was in the hospital, dehydrated and sick like I've never been sick before - but not as dizzy. Anyway, it was during this hospital stay that they did the endoscopy and I learned about Celiac. I have not had one dizzy spell since going gluten-free since June of this...
  5. Yes, I have never had anxiety in my life until now. I am recently diagnosed and actually the anxiety has let up ALOT as my body is feeling better. I think that when you are ill, your whole system is whacky - I was so surprised at how terrible the feeling of anxiety is and can't believe some people deal with this for many years. Anyway, I haven't pursued...
  6. i don't know if you have given birth to any children, but apparently from the birth process, you can have hemaroids and not even know it. HOpe that's all it is for you and that you feel better soon. I am in a similar boat as yours, trying out the diet with all negative bloodwork but probable biopsy. And I do feel a ton better now. Like some of the other...
  7. yes, the initial report of my biopsy was normal and then aronda week later they called, after looking at the biopsy, and said villi were blunted. so i have suspected celiac i guess. but feel a million times better now than i did back in may, when i didn't know and was eating gluten. and none of my bloodwork was positive so you just never know.
  8. when i got diagnosed, my parents bought me a Jack LaLane juicer (like on the infomercials) and I have used it pretty regularly as I was noticing I was having a hard time digesting veggies too. THis juicer can hadle whole apples and carrots so it's more convenient to use but I don't know alot about juicers in general - thi s is my first experience. I wish...
  9. I doubt I'll get an appointment that soon. Could you mention the name of the store or a good restaurant you've been to. I haven't been out to eat since the dx so am a bit nervous about it but knowing someplace safe would be great.
  10. I can relate to alot of your story - I'm 32 and could not believe that my body was turning on me and no one really knew why. I felt like I was falling apart. Anyway, since going gluten-free, I have made slow but steady improvements and now I think that I just might feel "normal" again soon. Good luck to you.
  11. I have no idea exactly what it was that caused me to feel so sick after I started feeling better in those first couple of weeks but had to go back to basics as far as food choices and that helped me. I am slowly building up with new gluten-free things and more ingredients but had to go back to chicken, veggies and fruit, rice and potatoes. I have been trying...
  12. I'm a couple weeks further along than you (around 8 weeks in) but still new and learning. I have to say that getting the whole house on board with gluten-free foods made me feel alot more safe in my own home and no one is suffering due to it. I have a 3 year old and a 15 month old so they are young enough to not demand certain foods. They seem to love...
  13. I can't say what's "normal" but for me I am also still scared that something bigger and badder is what is really at the root of all my symptoms. I wonder if it's just denial in the idea that Celiac is a big deal. I can relate to your ongoing fears about OC as I have similar fears but I think that the further away I get from how sick I was and the better...

    ARCHIVED University Celiac Clinics

there is a recent thread on the Mayo Celiac Clinic if you look under "Doctor's". Those who went were pretty positive about it in general and Dr. Murray especially.
  15. interesting way to put it - it is a matter of perspective. but does it last as long for you with similar symptoms as before would you say? i just can't bear the thought of a week down and out again.
  16. Around a month and a half into gluten-free diet and experienced some glutenings in the early weeks. Just wondering, in others experiences, do the glutenings lighten up over time, remain the same, or get worse? I am hesitant to eat out as it is terrible how sick I get and it lasts for 4-5 days. Hoping once some healing occurs, that maybe the accidental...
  17. I'm glad you posted this, nice to hear others experiences. As for me, digestive issues started getting better with the first couple of days (D slowed down) - but it wasn't until probably about a month in that I realized how screwed up my GI symptoms were in the past as things were more normal and I forgot what normal was. Some of the other symptoms (headache...
  18. i am a new celiac and have a hard time with the heat too. i figure it is part of recovery for me. i also have bouts of tachycardia but again, calling it part of recovery. and these things are getting less severe for me now that i'm gluten-free. i didn't know how much gluten was doing to my system until things started getting better. i hope you get some...
  19. Namaste brownie mix is really good too - that brand must be pretty good at knowing gluten-free food.
  20. i haven't been to mayo yet but am hoping the same thing - that he will be able to help or shed light on remaining symptoms. of course, i would like a firm diagnosis but more than that, i would like to know if the symptoms i still have are part of recovery for some or if something else is going on. i too have the racing heart rate some days but i did have...
  21. not an expert by any means as I'm new to all of this too - but it sounds familiar. i had great bloodwork but became progressively more "off" until I was really really sick. I never had any allergy issues at all and then this. I would suggest to pursue this further with your doctor, maybe it's a food sensitivy, possibly wheat or another, that has crept...
  22. I know exactly what you are talking about by being happy about a "normal" bathroom experience. that's too funny. I've been gluten-free since late May (actually more like mid-June because I made some mistakes those first couple of weeks). For me, it is slow but steady progress and improvements. And definitely eating basics only for a while. I am just...
  23. i'm sure others here will be able to give good advice - to new to this all to know alot. but i think that's strange that they are saying there's no evidence of sprue but that there is atrpohy in the deodenum. i don't get it either but you may as well get the blood work done. you could probably get a second opinion on your endoscopy results as well.
  24. I haven't eaten outside of the house yet, too scared! I've been gluten-free for 2 months but if iI were to go out to a restaurant, I would probably eat at home first and then order a drink and just socialize. Tha'ts what I've done at family parties and friends' houses where there is fodd that I can't have - or brought my own that is safe that everyone can...
  25. no fun, i get itchy too. i have been wondering if i have other food allergies as well and should pursue the testing. hope you feel better soon - take it easy!
