  1. i was still getting sick for a couple weeks after going gluten-free and then went way back to basics for foods and have beenfeeling much better - if i can wash it and peel it myself, then i can eat it. i figure i have a lifetime to add in more foods but for now it's chicken, rice, potatoes, veggies, and fruits. and it hasn't been that bad at all. i'm surprised...
  2. i've noticed people with morning problems as i have read messages as i usually don't feel well in the mornings. i think we have to eat often to feel good and keep the icky feelings away and the nighttime is just too long between meals. just a thought but it seems like a common complaint - not feeling good in the mornings.
  3. that's a nice offer - we do have parents in the area that we can call on. i live in white bear lake. i don't think there is anyway i could go back on gluten right now. i'm not 100% sure that it was the cause, but i was having these acute attacks of pulse racing and couldn't even sit up in bed for like 4-5 days in a row and haven't had an "attack" like...
  4. thanks - i sent the release in today so will call to make sure the glass slides get sent too. i forgot to ask, how long were the appointments - did you end up spending the night nearby or could you drive home that night? i know that everyone is different but just trying to plan for babysitter verses taking the kids with us or what. just the thought of...
  5. that does it, i'm calling tomorrow to get my stuff sent there. i've been procrastinating as i have a baby and a 3 year old and just thought the drive down there would be a hassle but i'm sure it will be worth it just to set my mind at ease that the whole picture is being looked at. thanks so much for posting how it went. i need to go and just know that...
  6. hello, i'm pretty new here myself but just wanted to respond as tachycardia is what ended up getting me my diagnosis too. luckily, i had around 15 - 20 lbs of weight loss in a short ti me too so that ER docs flagged a GI consult. anyway, i ended up in the hospital for 6 days after a heart-rate of 180 when i went into the ER. i was also told that maybe it...
  7. new too and have a hard time getting a straight answer from manufacturers too, when i do get a hold of someone. is it that they legally can't say "gluten-free" on some items? i have gotten - we can't say it's gluten-free but the ingredients do not specifically contain gluten - or something like that. but there are those questionable ingredients like natural...
  8. i have a juicer and have been making juices and that supposedly is the best way to get vitamins back into your system. and some are pretty tasty.
  9. hey - i am in a very similar situation to yours and am thinking about going to mayo too. they did do blood tests and a bone density scan for me at MN GI but all the blood tests were negative and the biopsy was a possible celiac (partial damage). but when i called mayo they said i had to send the glass slides and paperwork of what was already done before...
  10. i had the same thoughts about using my mom's old bread machine but i think i'll buy a new one, not worth the chance i guess.
  11. sorry things are rough right now - i can't imagine being in early pregnancy AND going through the Celiac illness and recovery! You are doing well to make it out of bed, in my book. I am nearly 2 months in eo Celiac/gluten-free and still do have days where I feel dizzy/light-headed and I'm thinking it's part of recovery and building back up stamina and confidence...
  12. don't know if it's exactly the same thing, but i would get these whole-body jerks that would happen most often before falling asleep, sometimes when i was awake, but usually right before sleep. sometimes a succession of them, like 4-5 in a row, and sometimes just a big one. anyway, doctors suggested maybe it was myoclonic jerks, and they are not dangerous...
  13. As to the ringing in the ears, i had that symptom and was actually diagnosed with Meneire's diease (an inner ear dysfunction) 3 days before i landed in the hospital and it was discovered by biopsy that I had Celiac. Anyway, Meneire's consists of ringing and fullness in the ears (or one ear) and bouts of extreme dizziness. Since the Celiac diagnosis, I have...
  14. please do pass on the info if you find this supplement helpful. i am on a bunch of vitamins now have a hard time swallowing pills so would love to drink a shake instead, or in addition, to a vitamin regamin. at this point (around 6 weeks in) i will try anything (as long as it's gluten-free) to get feeling closer to normal!!
  15. My kids don't have allergy issues (that I know of) but I have a 15 month old and I recently was diagnosed Celiac so am learing the ropes formyself and trying to feed my kids more healthy options too. I know that when we want to get some high-calorie healthy food into him, he likes avocados, sliced up like finger-food. Also, beans are another fun and favorite...

mornings definitely are worse for me too - don't know what that's all about but it's true for me - maybe your body is hard at work while your sleeping trying to heal?

    ARCHIVED New Celiac

New too and a couple weeks ahead of you in the process - I've been gluten free for around 5 weeks. I too still have better and worse days but overall am having more good than bad. I don't know about you, but I've been pretty healthy my entire life and never really understood what a real illness is like until know. And that it can be caused by a food that...
  18. MN Gastroenterologists is a group of doctors that practice around the Twin Cities. I am new to Celiac but when in the hospital, this group saw me and are the ones who recommended the endoscopy when I did not have symptoms typical of Celiac. Don't yet know how good they are but am also thinking of driving down to Mayo and having them take a look at everything...
  19. I am one of those who had all negative blood work and my biopsy showed villi blunting so not as severe damage as some but my symptoms were terrible, headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, jerking, tingling legs, dizziness. I was so happy to know that there is a possible solution to all of this. I don't know if I have an official diagnosis from the doctors, even...
  20. Everyone is so nice. Yes, I have that flu-like thing with the chills and the heart-racing waking me up at night too. NOt for a couple of weeks though so like you, maybe it is just when I have a gluten attack. Thanks for making me feel "normal" as I have been feeling so abnormal lately. Also, my doctor told me that Gatordade had gluten so I never checked...
  21. This is encouraing to hear. I am grateful that I have not had to suffer for years like some of you have as things just got weird this past Nov or December with dizziness and sick "spells". It seems like long enough, I can't imagine 9 years! Docotors have been pretty good to me as I never felt like they didn't believe me, just didn't always know what to...
  22. thanks for the reply. i didn't have vitamin levels checked so i think you are right that i need to pursue this and maybe get more supplementation than the daily gluten-free multi-vitamin I am taking. I need to be thankful for the positive changes so far as I really am maintaining weight and the GI symptoms are getting really close to normal. just the neuro...
  23. oops - sorry, i see it is not your first but your second child. it's early on in the pregnancy though so hopefully this will pass like the nausea in early pregnancy.
  24. I also had some GI-type problems like you are describing during both my pregnancies but at the end of the pregnancies, which doctors attributed to "early labor" signs but it did occur for much of the last trimester. I am newly diagnosed Celiac so don't know if that was from the Celiac or early labor, like they said. Pregnancy is really hard on your body...
  25. I am a new celiac and had my second baby 15 months ago now but probably, in restrospect, started having symptoms when he was around 6 months. And actual during pregnancy, I had toxcemia and blood pressure issues at the end so maybe that even ties in. I guess pregnancy takes a toll on our bodies bringing out things we were predisposed to. I never had a...
