ARCHIVED Help! Seriously Dry Skin
submarinerwife replied to loco-ladi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You may also want to invest in a whole house humidifier. We have and it has helped tremendously! -
Hello I was recently told by a friend that she thought that there was a celiac meeting group that meets at Harrison Hospital here in Bremerton, Washington. I have not found any contact information and the person on the phone did not know about it. I was wondering if anyone here had any information. Thanks!

You handled the situation very well. Perhaps their website had not been updated for some time. I buy ice cream from our BR regularly. I read the label on the prepackaged everytime for changes and only buy the pre packaged cartons. They have a variety of wheat free flavors you just have to read before you buy. I personally love the peanut butter and chocolate...

ARCHIVED Caramel
submarinerwife replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Although for the most part the caramel color is made with cornstarch in the US I believe some still use gluten as well. I have no dairy intolerance and have had a reaction twice to two different products whose only incriminating ingredient was caramel color. Now actual caramel I have not had a problem with. Hope this helps. -
The Snapple white teas are all good. I drink the green apple white tea it is my fav.

I think the proof was in when you felt better being gluten-free! I have felt so much better on the diet and could never imagine going back it is just so nice to be healthy. And yes some people gain weight instead of losing it. I am one of those people, at my worst before being put in the hospital I gained 40lbs in 2 months! Now I am back down to 120lbs from...

ARCHIVED Ensure Or Something/anything
submarinerwife replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My fav. drink and I have put on some weight with is coconut milk, a banana, peanut butter, chocolate syrup and some ice, run it through the blender, makes a yummy breakfast drink! I also agree to try gaining the weight gradually as it is much easier to slow it down that way. If you gain too fast you could start a whole new host of problems! Good luck and... -
ARCHIVED Excessive Sweating When Glutened
submarinerwife replied to Mballerina's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
One of the ways that the body helps detoxify itself is by sweating the toxin out, so it didn't surprise me to find that when I am glutened that I also sweat profusely. I have always sweated whenever I was sick and whenever I had an allergic reaction to anything, it is just another way that the body gets rid of all the bad stuff. Although yes it can also... -
ARCHIVED Big Problem, Neediing Help Asap!
submarinerwife replied to mamaw's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Happy 60th Birthday! I am so sorry to hear that this happened. However I hope that the cake alone did not ruin the whole party, the family all being together can be so special even without cake! It sounds like this girl is scared and may be trying to cya at the moment, maybe she did bake the cake and is upset because it didn't work and maybe she hoped to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Asian Salad
submarinerwife replied to BridgetteB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There are a couple of different brands of rice flour noodles on the market, I use Tinkyada though I have never tried to make an Asian salad from them. -
ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills Pancake Mix
submarinerwife replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also use it to make a batter for frying, we fried a batch of Calamari with onions and brocoli it was delicious, Mix one cup of the arrowhead mills 1/4 cup parmesian 1/2 tsp garlic or 2 cloves crushed 1 egg 1/2 cup water added a tbsp at a time until batter is smooth, but not runny -
I have always had horrible horrible periods, so you have my sympathy and best wishes. However before going gluten-free I started going through an early M. I was only 28 at the time. Since being gluten-free I have started regulating again. Lots of changes to adjust to as the whole body heals. My mother however who NEVER had any PMS EVER (lucky woman!) started...

ARCHIVED Testing Family Members
submarinerwife replied to ~alex~'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After I was diagnosed my mother got tested on her own and tested positive, but she had as many symptoms as I did. My brother and father both refuse to get tested. They say they just don't have the will power to go on the diet and so they would rather not know. I did go ahead and get both of my children tested right away and both have tested negative! It is... -

ARCHIVED What Were Your Pre celiac disease Dx Misdiagnoses?
submarinerwife replied to burdee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As a child, my mother was told I was a hypochondriach and that she should ignore my complaints. She did not ignore them, but the doctors would not help. As a teen I suffered severe anemia. The pills they gave me made me sick and gave me hives. I was diagnosed as manic depressive and given antidepressants that made the depression WORSE! I could not keep up... -

ARCHIVED Gfcf Birth Control - Advice, Please!
submarinerwife replied to kiwi56's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if it is CF but when I took BC I took Loestrin and it was gluten-free. I normally have horrible side effects on the pill and I did not have any with this one except a reduced time period, which was a Godsend! With any pill if the effects are not overwhelming use for at least 3 months before deciding to change, you should be on it for at least... -
ARCHIVED Good Experience At Red Lobster Silverdale, Wa
submarinerwife posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I recently moved to the Silverdale, Bremerton area of Washington State. My parents love to eat out, so when they came to visit we went to the Red Lobster in Silverdale. I was nervous that they would not have anything for me and so ate some before we left. When we got there I asked if they had anything on the menu a celiac could eat. Our server assured us... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Port Townsend Or Port Ludlow, Wa?
submarinerwife replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have not been to either of those towns in particular before, but Port Ludlow is not too far from a town called Poulsbo. There is a grocery there called Central Market. They are a natural market and have a ton of Gluten Free products. It is approx. 15 or so miles away. If you are in Port Townsend it is about 35 miles or so away. I hope this helps some. -

ARCHIVED Breakmaker Dilemma
submarinerwife replied to swittenauer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have the breadman plus, which also has a gluten free setting, though as with all machines I have used the white setting on medium crust seems to work the best, it also makes it in a more traditional loaf shape! The book it comes with has some really good recipes in it as well. As for a good bread that is a little different you could look at bob's red mill... -
I recently ran into the same problem though it is myself who is the celiac not my daughter. With some experimentation this is what I came up with. Deep Fried Calamari Heat oil in fry daddy (or other fryer) to about 365 deg 1lb calamari cut into small strips or rings Mix together 1 cup gluten free pancake mix (I use arrowhead mills), 1/4 c parmesian...

ARCHIVED Can't Stay Well
submarinerwife replied to cwj-tlj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
CW, I was diagnosed a little over a year ago. The first few months are the worst I promise you it does get easier. After a few months of what you went through, I completely stopped eating out until I had gone a few months of no more symptoms. Then slowly started eating out a bit at a time, (no fast food they just don't care enough, and its too risky even...
