I thought vinagarette was fine until I went to Cheesecake Factory. The waitress was smart enough to tell me that they put soy sauce in theirs! Soy sauce often = wheat. Wow was I surprised. Even if you think you've got a safe food, ALWAYS double check. -

Yay! Udi's at Costco! DH went shopping last night and Udi's had a display of gluten-free food to test the market. I guess they're doing it in 5 stores around Denver. 2 loaves of white bread for $6 or $7 dollars (he couldn't remember exactly). But much cheaper than Whole Foods or Kroger. Check out your local Costco and fight for the cause! -

Sprouts has mini salad dressing packets that you can throw in your bag for times like these. I love them. I used to carry around the spritz kind of salad dressing, but it was so inconvenient and my checkbook smelled like balsamic vinaigrette all the time. I take Maalox. It usually takes a few doses until I start feeling relief. I get really bloated, painful cramps, and nausea. I've used it for 5 or 6 years. -
In addition to Udi's white bread (on sale through today at Whole Foods), their pizza crust is awesome. I used to buy kinnikinnik crust until I found udi's. Even my dh and kids will eat Udi's food. I love Udi's cinnamon rolls - slightly warm with cream cheese on top.

Ditto the advice. Before I went gluten-free, I used a bread machine because making bread required lots of hard work and timing. Kneading. Rising. Kneading. Rising. gluten-free bread is much easier to make. So carefully consider why you need a bread machine. Do you have the space to stow it or will you need to keep in on your counter (and dust regularly)?...

Thanks for the wish of luck. I know they aren't 100% accurate, but I was hoping for a ball field, you know? What's funny is that when I got home, my hands started itching and a rash broke out on my fingers. Figures - I'd have a reaction after I left the office.

Thanks for the support. I hate that I have to wait a few weeks for the results. I was so anxious to find out what was making me sick. The are doing a Comprehensive Food Allergy test and took 4 vials of blood. I don't know what that will test for, but I hope to get some answers.

Today was my appointment for getting skin prick tests to see what additional allergies I have in addition to gluten. I say allergy, because I get hives, swelling, itching, etc. in addition to gi distress and headaches (among other symptoms... you all understand). I just wanted to empathize because I'd have fits if I had to give up Kinky-Curly. I hope you find a way to keep using it. It's a shame that us curly-girls have such a limited number of products that actually work for our hair, let alone weeding through them if we have intolerances that narrow down the list even further. BTW, I love their curling custard. -

I love Udi's white bread! I had a sandwich at lunch today and a coworker said, "Ooh, you're cheating!" because it looks exactly like regular, soft white bread. It's delicious. I don't even need to choke it down with water. BTW - Whole Foods has a sale right now for $3.50/loaf - at least the ones near me are on sale. I wonder if the consistency has anything... -
PF Changs is wonderful to it's gluten-free diners. They have a special menu just for us! Unfortunately, the menu does not contain hot and sour soup. :-( I guess they can't make that without gluten. Sounds like you have a good doctor. I love my pcp! She suggested that I had celiac on one of my firsts visit to her! After all those years of being shuffled around, what a gem. She wants me to do an elimination diet after the allergy testing, but under the care of an allergist. She's a big believer in specialists. I have doctors for everything - bones...

I got a packet in the mail with a load of questions to answer. You're right. It also said not to take benadryl, claritin, etc. I'm freaking out that I'm going to be incapable of going back to work the next day. I didn't realize that allergy testing is such a process. I hope I don't react too terribly. I'll keep a food diary this week. Thanks.

I was very sick last week, but couldn't nail down the problem. Almost the same reactions that I get from gluten - almost... that's why I know it's not gluten. I'm hoping to get the same experience as you had. At least a list to narrow down the culprit(s)! My dr. said that after the allergy testing, we'll do elimination testing. Eeks. No, I'm sure I have celiac and I haven't eaten gluten for a few years - barley, wheat, rye, or oats. I'm looking for what else I'm allergic/intolerant of. Soy maybe? I'm pretty sure lemons...
