  1. I'd take the test again. It's likely that you'd get a false-negative if you took it too early. This would seem likely since you have the other symptoms that you had when you were pregnant before. Perhaps your first test was from a bad batch.
  2. Hi there. I wasn't underweight, either. Unfortunately, when I started the diet I looked for replacements to all of my gluten food and ended up gaining more weight! There are lots of prepackaged gluten-free junk foods that have lots of calories and can prevent you from losing weight. Cookies, chips, cereal, cinnamon rolls, muffins, bagels, pasta... What I...
  3. Where do you buy Enjoy Life? I fell right off the wagon the other day. :-)
  4. It's really hard in the beginning. What helps is finding alternatives. gluten-free and DF doesn't mean that you can't have yummy treats. There are cookies, pretzels, and brownies galore! Bread, too (try Udi's). The downside is that they're expensive. When I first went gluten-free, my family was still gluteny. Now, they prefer my gluten-free food and our shopping...
  5. I'm going to try it again starting today.
  6. Udi's makes fabulous products - their pizza crust is great. Better than kinnikinnik's. Super-soft cinnimon rolls. And bagels that taste good straight from the bag - no toasting required. I hope you can find some of these products where you live. I heart Udi's.
  7. A couple of weeks ago I decided to quit eating chocolate. It was really getting out of hand. I was craving chocolate so much that I would get distracted around 3pm if I didn't have some m&ms. I couldn't work. I'd hunt them down if I didn't bring them to work with me. Then I'd need more at home. I realized it was more than a craving and I needed...
  8. OMG - that's my GI's name, too! We all must be neighbors.
  9. Not harsh at all! If I post misinformation, I expect that someone should tell me.
  10. Most of us are lactose-intol in the beginning. The science is that a celiac's villi in her small intestines is damaged or gone completely from years of gluten-abuse. The part of her body that digests lactose is at the tips of those villi. Therefore, until she heals from the intestinal damage (by going gluten free), she cannot digest lactose. The good news...
  11. I've had it done with no ill side-effects. I'm sorry you feel so bad. To be clear, you cannot get glutened by injection. You can only get glutened by ingesting gluten. If you didn't eat it, you didn't get glutened from it. However, if you feel that you got sick from the procedure, you should call your doctor to make sure that you aren't having a different...
  12. Depends on how much I ate. I'm usually out for 3 days. Luckily, for some weird reason, I always tend to get sick toward the weekend. Still, I don't have any sick/vacation time saved up because I'm always taking off for celiac or other intolerance problems. Boo hoo. I wish I could take a vacation.
  13. I've heard that they're much more sensitive to celiac over there than they are here. Have a great time!
  14. It was a grieving process for my dh when I was diagnosed with celiac. It's just as hard on him as it was on me (well, not AS hard... but hard). He didn't believe things were too bad because you can't see most of the reactions. It helped him to read a few books on the illness. He's changed his habits. He knows to brush his teeth before he kisses me. He doesn...
  15. We eat out a 6 or 7 times a year. Before getting diagnosed, we ate out a few times a week! At first, I hardly ever asked questions when we went out. I just picked out meals that I thought were gluten-free. I got sick a lot. Now, we go to restaurants that have gluten-free menus. ONLY restaurants that have gluten-free menus. If I talk to a waitperson...
  16. After reading so many horror stories on this forum, you're lucky that your doctor even ordered a biopsy after you came up with negative blood work! Be thankful you have such a thorough doctor. I hope you have a great relationship with her for years to come.
  17. The fear of getting glutened subsides after awhile. What's great about being alone is that you can live in a strict, gluten-free household - that way, your chances of getting sick are greatly reduced. Next, figure out some safe meals and stick to them. Rice and chicken? Rice and hamburgers? Rice and ... Your baby can eat gluten-free food. You'll be fine....
  18. I thought they didn't allow people with Celiac in the military? Something about not being able to guarantee the ability to accommodate the medical needs in a war zone? Is that untrue?
  19. I think this is intolerable and needs to be addressed. I don't think people are intentionally mean, so I think that your boss is not being insensitive on purpose and might be happy if you told her the problem with the candy bowl. It's important to be assertive. A few options - 1) Can you do away with the bowl? Not all businesses do this ritual, 2) Can the...
  20. This is one of my primary symptoms. I sleep for hours on end. Sometimes I have to call in sick so I can sleep all day. This is in addition to sleeping extra hours at night. Usually this lethargy/brain fog/sleepiness lasts for a week.
  21. I've jumped around in this topic, but don't see the answer to this: It seems that there's quite a bit of sugar involved in the diet - even though it's not from simple carbs. The diet really pushes fruit and juice, so I'm worried about how much "crashing" I'll do if I decide to commit to the diet. You know, eat a lot of -ose, then crash a few hours later so...
  22. Thank you all for your suggestions. It's still overwhelming to have so many to select from. Although they all sound severe, I'm sick of being sick. I had to take 2 days off work this week because I feel so crappy. Yes, I'm positive I'm not getting glutened from anywhere. I think strawberries are bad... and nightshades... I think there are multiple foods contributing...
  23. Thanks for the book suggestion. I'll check my library.
  24. Great motto! Do you marinate your food? How about salt and pepper?
