    ARCHIVED Oats

For starters, packaged instant oatmeal is not the same thing as oats. Packaged foods like that are always more likely to be a source.
  2. Yes I too am having this problem. I was hoping it would get better once I went off the gluten. The face lotion I was using was making my face feel chapped, as soon as I stopped using it my skin felt better. The only way my skin feels better is if I use the creamy body wash in the shower, then body oil then lotion. Even then I feel like I need to put more...
  3. I'm glad she wasn't there when I went since it was my first week going gluten-free.
  4. As soon as I realized I was going gluten-free I looked up bakeries. This is the place I went the first weekend. It was so relaxing to eat and not worry.
  5. This is very intresting to me. I was the sick kid, ear infections that were killers (my hearing sucks now), daily headaches, fatigue, constipation that one day turned into the big D and killer stomach cramps after eating and asthma. My middle child was sick his whole life, so was my oldest! My middle was diagnosed with Aspergers my oldest severe ADHD....
  6. This is an excellent thread with excellent information. It is amazing to me how Dr's treat us in ways that benefit them and the pharma giants. Of course when we need medicine its great it is there but as you all pointed out if you can stay off of medications do so. There was a point in time in my life (low low points) when my whole family ended up on one...
  7. General Chat Unrelated to Celiac Disease - Discuss most things here EXCEPT Celiac Disease / Gluten-Free Diet. Keep it light and avoid controversal topics like global warming, gay marriage, gun control, euthanasia, speed limits on the Autobahn, prisoner torture, etc. Not sure why but by the time I got to the last sentence I was lawling It's the small...
  8. Almond or cashew. OH gosh I need to bake these. I bought extra pb and choc chips today.
  9. I have been using bareminerals and don't have a problem with them. Although I have used body shop products for a long time UGH I needed face wash and wanted one of those serums to go under my face lotion so the lady sold me on the Vit C versions. BAD BAD BAD It was right before I found out about the gluten and I never checked them. My face started...
  10. UGH When I was a teen mine were not so bad but I had celiac symptoms my whole life. As I got a tiny bit older (mid 30's) they got so much worse, hard cramping, pain everywhere, exhaustion that I never got over (combined reasons) and so heavy. Almost 2 yrs ago I went to the dr because it was a coursing flow. Shocking and exhasuting even more so. My uterus...
  11. It seems since they are all young if you all go off of gluten now it would be easier. If you do then you will know soon enough if it affects his health in a positive manner. Personally I would pack his lunch, have you seen school lunches blech! Ask him, what does he think about it?
  12. Ya I emailed her back. I explained that allergy statements have nothing to do with healthier foods. I mean come one DUH I also explained her lack of having a clue combined with the poor service (it has gone way down lately) means I won't be eating there anymore. I also mentioned I will share the info with a gluten free forum and let them see how wonderful...
  13. Oh dear, you too. I too am self diagnosed and my family supports me either way. I cannot go to the Dr with no insurance but I have been for years asking them what is wrong with me and they never ever came up with an answer. I too don't have the greatest trust for the medical profession. My son almost died because of the profession. It wasn't just one dr...
  14. LOL funny how we eat when we are out of food! I did a search on Epicurious for flourless and there are 12 recipes but 8 of them are flourless chocolate cake. Don't care though, I am hungry and this sounds so good.
  15. I replace 1/4 to 1/2 cup flour in a recipe with oat flour. Oat flour is easy to make even in a regular blender but only try to grind smaller amounts at a time so it doesn't bind up. I love oats and could not give them up. That would almost be as bad as me having to give up chocolate.
  16. I used my vitamix. I wish I knew if it is fine enough a grind though. It seems fine though but I sifted it afterwards and there were some grainer pieces. Does that happen when you use the mill?
  17. Oh, I forgot to ask, how do they behave when baking? Seems like they would spread all over? TIA
  18. Sounds like I will be baking again! thanks for posting this
  19. I had the same thing happen. I used a trick that bakers of gluten flour use.... Freeze the cookie dough. Bake them frozen at 350
  20. I don't see this as your friends really wanting you to change the world, I see it as them using you as an excuse for their bad behavior. Honestly my friends would never do that. They don't totally "get" the gluten issues but they would never attack me and tell me to change the world. At restaurants they ask if food has gluten in it and they do it in a manner...
  21. I asked if they had nutritional information about their menu, especially allergy info including wheat. Not exactly a good response if you ask me. Of course I can order a burger without the bun but who knows, is there wheat in that dressing on the salad I wanted? Thank you for taking time to contact us. We currently do not have nutritional information...
  22. There is another food forum I have belonged to for years (pre-gluten-free) and the people on there prefer the Whisper Mill. Quite a few people on there were grinding their own grains. Although as someone pointed out you might want a seed mill for the tiny grains like teff or quinoa. If you want to read it all for yourself it is at the bakingcircle a la...
  23. We are going to Leavenworth with another couple so I can't go. Great another chance for me to eat out again this weekend and make myself sick - inadvertently at least. I thought salad with chicken would be ok but nope. It was Ruby's Diner, has anyone seen allergy info for their menu? I can't seem to find anything online and well I was dumb and didn't ask...
  24. This does sound very good. I have been thinking about a savory bread made with baking powder instead of yeast. There are some wheat (i keep spelling it what instead of wheat!) recipes for a quick bread - sandwhich bread. I need to look those up.
  25. Seems that what everyone is suggesting is mainly vegetable in form, but fruit works wonders. Ya know that old saying an apple a day keeps the dr away! We go to an orchard and pick up apples that taste so much better then in the store so we want to eat them. Oh and someone suggsted water, yes lots of that. It seems to me that the wheat and grains we gave...
