  1. Hi everyone. My thyroid feels fine now. Maybe it wasn't really hypothyroidism but just symptoms of a glutening? I'm not cold anymore. I am still really sick from the gluten though. It's so frustrating. So so frustrating. I'm in California, there are no free clinics that I know of, ER's would be the worst option because they are thousands of dollars. The...
  2. Thank you all for your replies. I've been getting * a little * better. It seems the farther away from a glutening I get, the better I get, thyroid/body warmth wise. It was weird, I woke up one morning and it was as if I could feel my thyroid working again, or maybe it was just the gluten leaving my system. I felt different. And all day my body temperature...
  3. Thank you. I will buy the raw meat from now on. I've just been so sick and so pale and weak. I know celiac makes it harder for the body to absorb nutrients, and I felt that maybe having a sturdy form of complete protein with all the amino acids in my diet might help give me some strength. I eat eggs but it never seems to be enough. I always look like I...
  4. Does anyone know anything about hypothyroidism going along with gluten intolerance? Something has happened to me this past month where my thyroid seems to have failed. I have all the symptoms of hashimoto(sp?) disease. Especially I get horrible chills and basically I have to be sitting in a boiling hot bath otherwise I'm shivering even with 3 sweatshirts...
  5. What meat is okay? I was stupid and assumed all non breaded meat would be okay. Then I got deathly ill from Tyson chicken and now I'm scared to touch meat again. I looked later and saw it had gluten. Where the gluten was, I don't know. I just want PLAIN meat. No flavorings. I will never buy the frozen stuff again. But is plain, raw meat gluten free...

    ARCHIVED Iodine

I understand, but iodine is neccessary for the body to properly function.
  7. Me too. Winter (NOW) is the time of absolute misery to me. I fall into a depression and dont come out til April.

    ARCHIVED Iodine

I personally feel that is really bad advice. Iodine is an ESSENTIAL nutrient. You should not avoid iodine, you should be taking iodine. I have celiac and DH and I take 50mgs of iodine daily. There is barely anything in the multivitamins I take like hundreds of times that amount daily. The only thing you should avoid for DH is GLUTEN! Iodine is essential...
  9. Thank you, that means a lot to me. I'm a writer, so I get very passionate about expressing myself through words when I'm all riled up. I appreciate all the responses, I feel much better now. I did get mildly glutened but it wasn't too bad. I got a rash on my chest and hands last night and had some trouble sleeping but my DH didn't get too much worse...
  10. Actually my mom never has cooked for me, I've been cooking for myself since I was really young, and I'm 26 years old now, I'm just visiting home for a few months for the holidays before I go travel South East Asia for awhile My problem is I DO give them knowledge about the disease, often times they don't listen to me. I say that trace amounts have made...
  11. Hey thanks for responsing, thanksgiving is just such a hard time, this is my first thanksgiving since being officially on the diet (I was in the process of figuring out I had celiac last year around this time and still in denial-bleh) and I'm making my own mashed potatoes, vegetarian gravy, and a vegetable dish. I don't eat meat so that shouldn't be a problem...
  12. I fall into misery every fall and don't come out of it til it warms up again. I DESPISE winter I am a summer person all the way. I HATE the cold, Im one of those eternally cold people who was meant to live somewhere with 70 degree winters and 120 degree summers.
  13. I have suicidal feelings from being glutened too. It's 1/2 frustration and 1/2 whatever the gluten does to my mind. But I am NOT myself, when I get glutened. I have anxiety attacks, sometimes severe ones, and depression and severe irritability. I wish I could give advice on a proper way to deal with it but I haven't found one yet.
  14. Thanks but the seasoning is not gluten free.
  15. So with thanksgiving and everything I've been trying SO hard to not be difficult for anyone, to not be a hassle or a problem, I've been really full of info and trying to make things as easy as I can for my mom so there can be SOME things I can eat, and I'm cooking things myself as well. But I'm having major problems with my family NOT understanding celiac...
  16. I understand. SO so much. I'm crying right now as I write this post.. I'll never understand what we did to deserve this.. have no answers but I wanted to offer a *hug* !!!! Can I ask why? I'm so sorry...
  17. I know, I feel like it's discrimination too! I wonder how I would go about doing something about it. This is way to common a thing for it not to be more accepted.
  18. Thank you. I will look into disneyland. Never thought about that! I wouldn't mind living in Southern California either, I love LA. I guess it's just frustrating (and sickening) at the lack of awareness about celiac disease, when its SO common. Especially for resorts and things, they seem to have NO clue about it, wouldn't you think they would have celiac...
  19. Sorry I know I could put this in the travel section but I feel it has more to do with coping. I'm planning on doing a sort of travel around the world, "finding myself" time this upcoming year. The first part of it will be 6 weeks to 2 months spent backpacking around South East Asia. This I am okay with. I hear Thailand is very rice based in their foods...
  20. I used to have these really terrifying dreams where I'd be eating pizza, pasta, bread, whatever all carefree and happy, as if I had amnesia, and then suddenly, like a slap in the face I'd be hit with the horrific realization and memory that I have celiac, and start trying to make myself throw up all the gluten but not be able to, and then just sit there sobbing...
  21. Stuff my face with something else until I'm too full to think about eating anything else.
  22. I'm really glad I found this thread, I'm going backpacking this coming year, I want to go to a lot of South East Asia, (Thailand, Cambodia) and Italy and then backpack and travel around the United States as well. This thread is re-assuring, I've been VERY worried about how to take care of my health. I also want to do wwoof. I think the key will be...
  23. Wow.. just wow. To the OP.. thank you. Thank you for sharing your story. Reading your post WAS like reading about my life, similar history, similar health/mental health problems in childhood, etc. I'm actually near tears right now because I came on here searching for support and I can relate to this so much.. I've been on the gluten free *attempting...
  24. Oh man I may have screwed up. SOmeone at work gave me a stick of 5 gum and I took it without even thinking. AM I NUTS? I completely forgot, which I thought would be impossible this far into being Gluten-Free. I chewed it for maybe 5 minutes before the horrifying realization that I'd just put something in my mouth with colors and flavorings and I had...
  25. Thanks! Yes Winco is definitely awesome, especially the big bins of quinoa and brown rice and other things you can just scoop out of. They also carry Pacific foods organic soups most of which are gluten free. And lots of other good yummy stuff. I don't eat meat either so it's even harder for me. I want to try making hummus now really bad! I think I will try...
