  1. I'm gluten/dairy/soy/chickpea free right now.. sorta corn free too but I'm not very strict about it. It doesn't cause me breakouts but I've heard it can slow down intestinal healing so I cut most of it out for awhile. I still eat rice chips that have corn flour and stuff in them sometimes though.. same with soy. I'm not sensitive to it or anything I just...
  2. Yeah, unfortunately for those of us with no health insurance or money, avoiding gluten is the only way. And also, my skin is the absolute LAST thing to get better after a glutening. Always. It usually goes stomach symptoms, mood symptoms, and then weeks and weeks later, the skin finally clears.
  3. How long have you been on the diet? And are you being 100% gluten free? The only way to tell for sure if it's related is to wait and see if it gets better on a gluten-free diet. But it can take some time, so if it doesn't get better right away, don't give up yet. It usually takes me at least a few months of being gluten-free completely for ALL my skin...
  4. Ah yeah it does have some sugar I think. I'll still eat it because I'm not really sugar free or fully following the diet anyway but it's a bad suggestion for people strictly following the diet I guess. Sorry hehe. And yes, I really want to try kombucha too! I've heard really good things about it.
  5. I agree, a lot of people care! Almost everyone I come across is very curious about it and asks me questions about it.
  6. First of all, I can't speak for everyone, but in my opinion, doctors are of little help. I know some lucky members of this board have good, level headed docs who understand celiac but for the most part, doctors are.. (whats a nice word for stupid). I have a lot of anger towards western medicine in general because I, like many, was sick for YEARS, spent thousands...
  7. People do seem to understand the word allergy better than celiac. Sometimes. I think my worst experience ever in this way was while traveling in a foreign country, I visited a small family household in a lil shanty sorta villiage, and the guys kept trying to offer me beer. They couldn't understand why i was turning it down, and refused to stop offering...
  8. I liked what she had to say about kimchi, thanks for the link! I just went out and bought two jars. Yummm! And yeah, I have problems with certain foods, and I don't know why. WIth some of the things, I assume it's just other intolerances, for example aside from gluten, I can't have chickpeas. Don't know why. I don't do well with dairy either but I CAN...
  9. It's just too limiting for me. I'm all religions and none at the same time. I have my own religion, and it's every changing.
  10. I agree with his overall message of love and forgiveness, I don't necessarily agree with everything else he said, that's why I don't consider myself a Christian, as I don't think he is God any more than I think the Buddha's were God or anyone is. I think.. God is God, lol. I do believe in the "One" all mighty "God" and that we are all a part of God, so yes...
  11. I agree. I just want to stress what another poster mentioned- you get what you think about in life. You might want to read the book "The Secret".. it's a little new-agey but has a REALLY good and true message that helped me a lot in my life.. "Thoughts are THINGS".. and it really does work. If you think a lot of thoughts about how weird or different you are...
  12. I'm not really a Christian in the religious sense, but I still love Jesus. I believe he was an enlightened soul here with an important message for earth. I think of myself as a former Christian, now I don't really have a label for what I am. Some strange mix of Christian (for Jesus' message of love and forgiveness), Buddhist (for the Philosophical aspects...
  13. It took me maybe 22 years to find out I had celiac? With no help from doctors, I was self-diagnosed. Spent thousands of dollars on doctors trying to find out what was wrong with me and never recieved any answers.. was only told to put this cream on it (DH, also misdiagnosed) or take pepto bismo for my tummy, etc. I swear, doctors don't know anything....
  14. I do understand that he has to meet with clients, I guess I just don't understand why it has to be at a restaurant vs say, meeting for coffee or something. And even if it does have to be at a restaurant, why not just go and not eat anything? Especially if it's a business meeting, I'd think more talking/less cramming food in your mouth would be a good thing...
  15. What do you guys think about following this diet using kimchi for probiotics vs making the yogurt? Kimchi is easy to buy pre-made in most stores, is gluten free, and might be a good alternative for those who either cant stomach dairy or just don't have time or a place to make the yogurt like me. I see some of you were talking about fermented cabbage on here...
  16. I'm gluten/dairy/corn/soy free... Typical day: Green smoothie, usually with spinach or collard greens, an apple or a pear, a plum or maybe some kiwis, and then berries like strawberries and blueberries for antioxidants, all mixed up in the blender til smooth. (sometimes I will skip the next meal and have another green smoothie instead) 3 scrambled...
  17. Agreed. It really rubs me the wrong way for people to be trying to hide it or making excuses like oh Im on a diet or don't want it to go to my butt, etc. I mean sure, you aren't going to be forced to talk about it if you don't want to and it ISN'T anyones business, but we shouldn't have to HIDE a medical condition from the world out of fear of judgment either...
  18. Who are these people you spend time with? Why would your friends or coworkers call you a freak for having a medical condition? Sorry man, but based on this and your other posts you make it sound like you are surrounded by absolutely awful people. My friends never even go out to eat if I'm around because they want to spend time with me and wouldn't want to...
  19. As the other posters have said, there are options for eating out if you choose to try it, but it is still a risk. It just depends on if you consider it worth it or not. I personally don't. What is the big deal about eating out? I don't get it. If I never eat out again that's fine with me, why pay a thousand times more money for something that I probably wouldn...
  20. Oh hunny {{{HUGS}}} This is NOT your fault. I'm so sorry you've been glutened so severely. This disgusts me. I agree with the others about what you should do. I hope you feel better soon. <3<3
  21. I agree about the grains. I also eat them in moderation but I have found that I personally (for whatever reason) don't do well with any sort of baked flour or grains like the waffles you mentioned, gluten free or not. I know it sucks. Occasionally I will still allow myself gluten free cakes or something on my birthday or around Christmas, but in general...
  22. Not only that, but having worked at a mexican restaurant, I can tell you that most of the chips contain modified food starch, AKA possible gluten. I would be very worried to eat out ANYWHERE but if I was going to eat mexican I'd usually get a plate of refried beans ala carte, along with a side salad no dressing, and maybe a chopped avacado. Sorry...
  23. Yeah, you are right, I follow a diet somewhat close to this anyway, except minus the yogurt (no dairy at all) and I do eat rice and beans still, and potatoes sometimes. I guess that means I don't do the diet, haha. No way am I giving up rice! It's never done me wrong.
  24. Definitely cold turkey, but there is such a learning curve with figuring out what does and doesnt have gluten in it in the beginning that most likely it will take awhile to be 100% free anyway (at least for me thats how it was).
  25. Bummer. Looks like this diet is way too complicated for me, I wouldn't be able to follow it even if I wanted to (I don't have a steady home or job right now, I sorta live on the road). Bummer. Maybe if I ever work out a stable living situation I will try it then.
