ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mysecretcurse replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
What's "the starter"? I looked on the website but am still really confused. -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
mysecretcurse replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow I don't see how anyone could CHOOSE to drink beer. YuckYUCK YUUUUUCK man.. I don't drink alcohol at all, it's all nasty.. but I definitely react to beer, no doubt about that. I react to the tiniest trace amounts of almost anything. I can't eat oats. Beer.. just don't do it! I used to think I could do things "sometimes" too.. little did I know how... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mysecretcurse replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Can you guys help me? I am interested in this diet but it seems really complicated to me. All this stuff about making your own yogurt and this "dry curd" cottage cheese really confuses me. I don't know where to get this cottage cheese and I've never even heard of it. One of the websites says you can find it at wal mart but I looked everywhere and couldn't... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free No Prob...but...
mysecretcurse replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(((HuGS)))) I totally feel you! I am going through this myself. Been gluten free (or attempting to be) since 2007 and only recently have gone dairy and corn free as well. Or rather.. mostly. Haven't eaten any more cheese but did have a few dark chocolates that contained milkfat the other day. Avoiding corn has been harder. I stopped the corn chips and... -
I have no problems with the white quinoa, although the red kind hurt my gut and wouldn't digest.

Talk talk talk! We must keep the dialogue going and educate everyone we come across about this disease! I never heard of this disease til I learned about it from a friend who has it in her family and discovered I had it! This saved my life! I tell everyone I know about it because you never know who could be suffering unknowingly with it, like I was!

ARCHIVED Does It Really Matter?
mysecretcurse replied to frogrun's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Just depends on you and what you need for yourself. I am self diagnosed all around(both celiac and DH), and fine with that. Other people feel more comfortable getting a professional diagnosis. Up to you! -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten When Stressed
mysecretcurse replied to JesikaBeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went through a time like that in the beginning. I'm sort of both lucky and unlucky though, as the majority of my reaction to gluten is a severe skin reaction. (Nasty DH lesions all over my face and scalp and sometimes if I get glutened bad enough, a rash all over my body). The "celiac skin" makes me feel very bad about myself and its extremely physically... -
ARCHIVED Is It Really Best To Just Avoid Restaurants?
mysecretcurse replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't personally eat at restaurants. One tiny exposure and I'm sick for weeks. I just don't trust the people at the restaurant to not make any mistakes. I don't think they'd do it on purpose but stuff happens and it's just not worth it for me. If I did go out I'd probably spend the whole time worrying about it anyway. I'm extremely sensitive, I swear..... -
ARCHIVED Dh Can It Go Away Eventually?
mysecretcurse replied to hippo33's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have been gluten free for going on 2 years (only occasional accidents) and my DH still is really bothering me. I haven't yet eliminated dairy and other grains such as corn. Should I? I don't understand it, because within 6 months of first going gluten free my skin got crystal clear, but then the DH began returning. I have no idea what is triggering me and... -
I don't think the manager would intentionally lie either, but it's certainly possible (and probable) they they don't understand how many things contain gluten. My best guess is that it was something in the drink, though. Everything at Macdonalds is processed and horrible for you. I do not recommend.

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
mysecretcurse replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, it seems that MANY of us have been let down by western medical doctors. -
ARCHIVED Medical Marijuana For Symptom Control
mysecretcurse replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Er.. well you'd have to either be stupid or just have absolutely no self control for this to happen. I suppose some people have problems with self control whether they are high or not, but it really has nothing to do with being high. Have you smoked before? I only ask because people who don't use pot tend to sometimes have major misconceptions about it's... -
ARCHIVED 100 (or More) Things To Do When You Are Glutened
mysecretcurse replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1) Make healthy gluten free food. Whenever I get glutened, I always tell myself (with each safe meal, I'll heal a little bit more.. and in like.. 90 meals it'll be like it never happened. 2)watch a movie to get my mind off it 3)throw myself into my work and stay there for as long as I can (I'm a writer) 4)Smoke a bowl and relax under the stars... -
ARCHIVED Finding The Right Bread...
mysecretcurse replied to Kimmy913's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just stopped eating bread all together, personally. Sorry that's probably not much help, lol. I find that most baked flour goods irritate me. I'm not completely intolerant to them, but my body doesn't like them much. I eat mostly rice, raw produce, beans, meat, and a little bit of cheese. -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
mysecretcurse replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This thread is awesome. I'm also "self diagnosed". Well, it was suggested to me by a friend actually. I didn't want to believe her at first. It didn't seem possible that ALL my symptoms(depression, anxiety, severe PMS and cramping, inability to put on weight and improper fat distribution on my body-no hips or breasts and a huge gut, a horrible skin disorder... -
ARCHIVED Going Without Eating Gluten And Then Eating It Again?

Your parents are abusive. I suggest you do whatever it takes to get out of that home ASAP! Before it gets worse! -
ARCHIVED Going On A Cruise
mysecretcurse replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
edit- oops sorry, I somehow missed where you said you HAD called. Ignore that part. Hehe I did one cruise when I was younger but that was before I knew I was celiac, BUT- I was vegetarian at the time and the brochures said there would be "vegetarian options". Well, technically that was true but the options were not good, I was hungry a lot of the time... -
ARCHIVED When Does The Constant Hunger Go Away?
mysecretcurse replied to River*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine isn't as bad as it used to be, but I still do get hungry. I think it's just because I love food so much though. But I'd say after I first began healing the hardcore, crazy hunger lasted maybe.. 6-8 moths or so? I didn't really keep track and like someone else mentioned, it sorta fades away without you noticing it. I put a lot of healthy weight back... -
ARCHIVED Change In Body Shape?
mysecretcurse replied to MDRB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey I thought it was only me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just looking at pics of myself from a few years ago and wow, huge difference. I was always stick skinny, and just like you said, if I put on any weight, it went straight to my gut and that's it. Stickly, weak arms and legs, no muscle tone, no butt or boobs, no "meat". It's amazing how much things have... -
ARCHIVED How Does Your Family Cope?
mysecretcurse replied to hrly169's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ive also heard people say that Celiac is something people make up for attention. It baffles my mind, truly. Why is it okay to treat Celiacs that way but not people with a peanut allergy or diabetes? What is it about Celiac that people have such a hard time grasping/believing/understanding? I just don't get it. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Able To Work Because Of Celiac Disease And Related Conditions?
mysecretcurse replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There have definitely been times it has effected my work or made me not be able to work. This was all before I even knew I was celiac though and was still eating gluten every day and being deathly ill. -
*disclaimer*- sorta gross, sorry: I have "acne" on my face which I consider to be DH. I don't really know for sure. But it's definitely an autoimmune reaction from gluten, and I always had understood that the skin reaction from gluten was a sign of celiac, so I'm not sure. I find it all a little confusing. I suppose it doesn't really matter, all I know...

ARCHIVED Mom's With Celiac More Likely To Have Autistic Children
mysecretcurse replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Publications & Publicity
I was wondering about all of this as well. Were the children born to celiac mothers who were properly following the diet or not? It doesn't say (unless I missed it), because it seems that is an important factor with so many variables such as accidental or unknown glutenings, which we all know can make a big difference vs the mothers being on a strict as hell...
