Do you wear sunscreen or does your lotion/moisturizer have sunscreen in it? I used to get plenty of sun, but was always slathered head-to-toe with SPF45 or higher. This was largely out of fear of developing skin cancer - 3 generations of women on my mom's side (including mom) had skin cancer. Then I was dx'd as being vitD deficient. The dr put me on... -
Manda, I guess its not so much a matter of wanting a forbidden food as much as wondering if I'm really GI or not and wanting to test it (again) for my own satisfaction. My dx was made by a single measly challenge with cream of wheat. My dr has taken my word regarding the reaction and has no interest in pursuing testing as confirmation. I should be thankful...

Centa, Thanks for the suggestions. Wish we had a dishwasher. Actually, we do.... me! I went out and bought one of those multi-packs of sponges. Different colors for different dishes. Green for non-gluten, blue for gluten. That, along with my "gluten gauntlets" aka rubber gloves, should do the job without too much problem. I'm making a run to... -

Rya, Thank you! I've become paranoid about accidental glutening or CC. I think a lot of it has to do with the dr rx-ing the epi pen. My thinking is that if he took it seriously enough to do that, then I should really be careful. Hope I never need to use it. I haven't made the 100% gluten-free announcement. I've segregated the food cupboards... -
Thank you! Its nice to know I'm not the only one who feels the need to poke the owie. ------------------- LOL JNB! Hubby and I don't have kids either but we use terms like potty and owie too. Then again, we both still love crayons and coloring books and playing with bubbles too! Thank goodness maturity is optional.

You know how if sometimes you have an owie, you just have to poke it from time to time to see if it still hurts? Well, that's what its like right now. I'm self dx'd due to my reaction to the wheat challenge a little over a week ago . Other than that, I've been gluten-free for a month. There's a part of me that really doesn't want to accept this and...

I think the biggest part of the problem is that he's still in denial. He wasn't around (working) when I was doing my challenges and didn't see my reactions. Both he and his family have a problem with lactose intolerance, but they still eat a ton of dairy products. They don't really take food sensitivities all that seriously. Yesterday, I caught... -
I know this is too late, but next time ask the doc about OsmoPrep. Its 32 pills you take, 4 at a time. I had this the last time I had a colonoscopy and it wasn't too bad at all. Minor nausea, but didn't feel like I was in danger of getting sick. And no cramping or feeling of impending "bum explosions" (sorry). The urge to go was gentle and it worked...

No kidding. Ran me $5.50 for a pint of that yogurt. But its soooo worth it. Doesn't cause any tummy problems and I like it! Oooooh! That sounds yummy! I'm so sorry about the loss of your dad. Just re-read the thread and must have missed that the first time. ((((((((((( JNB )))))))))) -

The problem with reflux is that it can also be caused by LOW stomach acid. The stomach has to churn more in order to get the same amount of work done. I'm not really sure how the PPIs work in this case, other than create even less acid so there isn't any to come up the esophagus. I've often wondered why docs rx PPIs without checking stomach acid levels... -

For some reason, everyone and their cousin in this area raises goats. Dunno why. Probably in the water or something. On our road alone, there are at least 6 places that have goats, and the road is only 4 miles long. Anyway, a new produce stand opened around the corner (relatively speaking) and they carry local produce when its in season, local free... -

JNB, OOOOH! I'll have to try the sweet potatoes that way! Luvs sweet potatoes! I've found the coconut oil pretty good when making Indian or Thai dishes, where the coconut adds to the flavor. Yeah, I think you're right. Will stick with the white rice for a while and then re-introduce the brown in a month or so. And hubby just said he likes... -

Hi again! I'm pretty much in the same boat you are. Still trying to figure out what's causing what. I've been off gluten/soy/dairy/eggs/citrus/peanuts/etc... for about a month now. Have been doing an elimination diet and am slowly reintroducing foods, one at a time, to see if there are any reactions. So far, I've had a whopper of a reaction to gluten... -

Oh! Forgot to add.... I haven't had stomach cramps for 2 days now! What have I changed? Stopped eating brown rice. *sigh* Seriously, does it ever end? Regular white rice seems to be ok. Maybe the brown rice is why I had stomach cramps the entire time I've been on the elimination diet. Brown rice has been my grain of choice during all this... -

JNB, Great info on cholesterol! And what a horror story! Wow! When I read this, I looked back over my testing reports. My cholesterol numbers have gotten both better and worse. What have I done differently between the two? Nuthin. 2/05 Cholesterol 185 Triglycerides 130 HDL 54 ... -

I'm definitely going to have to let that info slip out. LOL! He doesn't understand CC, but he does get it that wheat has gluten. We'll have to work on that. The trip last night was interesting. *cough* I think the next time I head down that way, I'll just take hubby's debit card and leave him at home. Apparently, since he didn't look Trader... -

I just had to post here before heading out..... Hubby's taking me down to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods!!! And he started looking online for gluten-free, corn-free, dairy-free recipes for me! He even printed some of them out. Don't think he's actually been looking up gluten-sensitivity, but its a start. Woot! -
Are you taking iron supplements? Believe it or not, iron supplements do that to me. In most people, I guess it turns their stools black. Mine turn dark green. Gives me D too. When I stop the iron supplements, everything goes back to normal (or as normal as things tend to be in that department).

Ok, and now for the update. Saw the dr yesterday. It went better than I'd figured. He wrote me an rx for an epi pen. Wow! Hope I never need to use it. And when I talked to him about the rest of the challenges, he said he wants me in his office when I do the peanut challenge. He's actually taking all this seriously! Got my metabolic panel... -

Woo! You GO, girl! That's definitely something to look forward to! Honestly, I feel like a female eunich. No interest in sex whatsoever (never really have had much of a libido to speak of) and, on the odd occasion when it does happen, I don't really get much out of it. My wonderful, patient, and long-suffering hubby is gonna get a nice surprise... -

Thanks for the info on xanthan gum! Was pretty sure I'd read it somewhere. I'm still pursuing the corn angle. Tried some frozen corn last night, figuring maybe its just processed corn that causes the problems. Um, no. Thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest and got lightheaded. Next step - corn starch. Bleh! LOL! All this... -

Since I think I'm still getting CC'd every day to some extent, I really don't expect the fog to lift until this house is completely cleaned out. That's gonna take awhile. Oddly enough, it only seems to apply to certain things. I can remember all kinds of health/medical stuff and I'm killer at Trivial Pursuit, but you think I can remember putting a load... -

Something else I've been thinking about. It's been the family joke for years that I was in my terrible 2's until I turned 26. I've been reading some of the threads regarding gluten's effect on children and behavior and wondering if gluten may have been the cause of my temper tantrums, fighting, and anger outbursts for all those years. I'm still easily... -

Hm. Wonder where I got that idea from? Glad you brought it to my attention. Its gonna take awhile to get all this stuff straight in my head. Hubby doesn't ask me to help with anything unless he's desperate. The joke is "Look! I'm helping!" when in reality there's more hindering going on than anything else. Its not intentional. My mind...
