  1. I figured it was kinda like Great Oogly Moogly! LOL! Btw, hubby uses Egads! too.
  2. Well, I got the ultrasound report back. Been mulling it over since yesterday. Turns out there aren't any gallstones and everything else looks ok (except that they didn't review the kidneys on the u/s report. grrrrr). Only problem they found was a polyp in the gallbladder. Its not big enough for them to think its anything worrying. Problem is, gallbladder...
  3. Rachel, That's fabulous news! You've really come a long way. Congratulations! Offthegrid, Hi and welcome! Woohoo on the BM! I fully understand your rant about folks feeling bad and not doing anything about it. I have a couple of friends with either CFS or FM. I've talked to them about doing an elimination diet, but they'd rather take pills...
  4. Kassandra, maybe try plastic wrap and medical tape at the ends to keep water out? Andrea, hope hubby made it home safe last night. ------------- Sorry to be so whiny and self-absorbed. Just got a whole lot of things hit me all at once and I'm trying to deal with them, more or less, on my own. I'm scared, confused, and frustrated. The last month...
  5. Andrea, Hopefully hubby will be back on the road soon. The weather's awful out here on the east coast too. Had a wind storm come through and have had branches and trees going down like crazy. At least hubby managed to avoid getting stuck on a double shift - he works for the local utility company. Kassandra, Good luck today! Dentists, ugh! Such...
  6. I've got one of those. Would rather have a storage drawer too, but oh well. Anyway, its a little scary to use at first, but once you get used to it, not really that bad. I'm assuming there's a "broil" notch all the way at the end of your oven knob? Don't worry about the broiler burner. Its the same burner that's used to heat your oven. Just make...
  7. Sounds like there could be a couple of things going on. To be on the safe side, I'd suggest getting your ferritin, B vits, and thyroid levels checked (TSH, FreeT3, FreeT4, TPOAb, and TgAb - insist on these tests. Most docs will just run TSH and total T4, which doesn't really tell us anything). Both low iron and hypothyroidism can cause the hair loss, brittle...
  8. Do you think you could be reacting to the tannins in the tea? I've found that a cup of tea or red wine will set off my reflux.
  9. *buzzing through* Kassandra, If you skin can tolerate it, try some tea tree oil. Will catch up with everyone in a bit.
  10. I'm corn-intolerant too. Along with gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. My reaction to corn is actually why I did the elimination diet where the other intolerances were found. Go figure. I also don't seem to tolerate brown rice either, although white rice is fine. Corn's definitely in just about everything! I've gone to a whole-foods diet, not necessarily...
  11. Sarah, The low potassium and high bp sounds like a red flag for aldosterone, which is an adrenal hormone that regulates the sodium/potassium levels in the blood. This can be tested through a simple blood test. She needs to refrain from salt for 24 hours before testing and the test needs to be done at least 2 hours after she gets up in the morning. Along...
  12. Just a note... The idiot dr's office just called. Apparently he's decided to grace me with an appointment after all. No answers to any of my questions, just the appt. Am seeing him on Tuesday. I think I'll be channeling my inner biatch that day. It'll be worth the $15 co-pay to give him a piece of my mind...and then some. *grumblemutter*
  13. Thanks for letting me vent. I seriously needed it. I'm little Nyxie crankypants this morning. Stupid dr still hasn't called back. I made an appt with an Endo who has been highly recommended by other online folks. We'll see. Hopefully, he'll be able to refer me to a surgeon for another opinion. *sigh* Don't see the Endo until the end of Jan. Good...
  14. When they test mine before getting a thyroid biopsy done, it's usually a separate test in addition to the CBC. They test PT, PTT and platelets. If they want to look more in-depth, there are other additional tests they can run.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. I've been seeing a holistic MD. He's retiring at the end of the year and, by his recent "misses" in ordering testing and catching test results, its probably for a good reason. He's in his 80s after all. The new doc that specializes in female hormones is in the same holistic clinic and I'll be seeing her next month. She treats...
  16. Ok, need to vent somewhere. I'm upset, POed, scared, and now stress eating (which is baaad). Just got my thyroid biopsy results back. Idiot doctor mailed them instead of calling me, so I had to call his office with questions and the receptionist is playing go-between. Turns out the biopsy came back suspicious for a follicular neosplasm, which is a kind...
  17. Next time she decides to rub it in wish her a bad case of seasickness and a shortage of Dramamine.
  18. It looks like you probably have Hashi's, which is an autoimmune disease. Basically, your body is attacking your thyroid. You need to start on thyroid meds in order to suppress your thyroid and, subsequently, the antibodies in order to prevent any further damage. Your TSH needs to be around 0 (yes, zero) in order to have the antibodies fully suppressed...
  19. Donna, Thanks! You mean the trans-vag? I was like "you want to put what where???" A warning ahead of time would have been nice. It'll be my 7th ultrasound since the beginning of the year - 4 for thyroid, 2 for girlie stuff, and now this one. At least I won't have to go in with a full bladder.
  20. Check out these sites for info on adrenal fatigue. Lots of good stuff there: stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info. There are home tests you can do to see if you really need to do any further testing. I suggest you do the home tests first, before plunking out the cash for the testing. drrind.com also has some good AF info, although its combined...
  21. Teachem, I'm fairly new to this gluten-free thing too and like you was totally overwhelmed when going grocery shopping. Was in tears or close to it more than a few times. I've found something that works fairly well tho. I got a 3-ring binder and put printouts of all kinds of things in there. Lists of hidden sources of gluten, lists of brands that clearly...
  22. Ami, I'm so sorry you're going through all this. My heart goes out to you. Kassandra, Yay on the iron IV! Do you know what type (brand) they're going to give you? Venofer seems to cause fewer reactions in people and there's no need for pre-meds or steroids to be given at the same time. Fingers crossed for your test results today! April...
  23. Kamut is an ancient form of wheat. While its probably lower in gluten than modern wheat, it still has gluten in it. The same goes for spelt. Sorry.
  24. A lot of Celiacs are deficient in vit K, which is essential for blood clotting. Could be why he's still bleeding.
  25. I'm 5'8". Believe it or not, I'm the runt of the family.
