  1. Open Original Shared Link Here's a recipe for the blinis, although they look a lot like reg. pancakes- you could probably get away with that. As for the critters, Glutino makes both crackers and pretzel sticks that look and taste just like the real thing. Other good building materials: Marshmallows, raisins, peanut butter (if allowed), small candies...
  2. For granola bars, I eat nature valley roasted nut crunch. These are the only gluten-free nature valley bars...all the others have oats and barley malt. They are basically just nuts and seeds...similar to lara bars, but I haven't found lara bars aroud here. Clif nectar bars are also along those lines. I also like Glutino breakfast bars, which are like nutrigrain...
  3. OK thanks. I think I might just get eggs (sunnyside up so they can't add anything) and fruit to make it easy.
  4. I am performing in the CT All State Choir at the beginning of April, and basically it is a 3-day festival where the choir, made up of singers from all around the state, rehearses like crazy and then puts on a concert. They are housing us at a Mariott, and providing food for all three days. I spoke with my director, who said that they are very good at...
  5. anyone? sorry I don't want to be obnoxious but any thoughts would help!
  6. Wow, yes. The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, though with a stomach bug (during which I got really dehydrated) then a UTI. And I would be willing to bet it was related to CCing as well. Feel better!
  7. I haven't tried it either, but if you use it, I would undercook it a little to account for the extra liquid it will absorb. Ancient harvest corn/quinoa pasta is also good in soup as it's a bit hardier.
  8. Thanks to the wonders of state standardized testing (lol never thought I'd say that!) upperclassmen don't have to be into school until 11 on Monday. So, my friends and I decided to go out for breakfast. I figured I'll end up getting some sort of egg dish, but does anyone have a clue what's safe at friendly's? Like the homefries or bacon or anything? The only...
  9. I had a really weird one a few nights ago, my entire extended family was in England (???) and we were at a fancy restaurant. We ordered a pizza (??? again lol) and I assumed, for some reason, that it was gluten-free. I had eaten an entire slice before I realized it probably wasn't!! In my dreams I tend to forget I'm celiac entirely...until I've eaten something...
  10. https://www.celiac.com/articles/181/1/Safe-...ents/Page1.html Nope, in the USA MSG is gluten-free. It's made from "fermentation of starch, sugar beets, sugar cane, or molasses". It's called Monosodium glutamate because it's made from glutamic acid, not gluten. Many on here eat it with out a problem. If you react to it it's a separate intolerance, though...
  11. other way around...many false negatives (especially in kids) few false positives. Unfortunately pediatricians (and even gastroenterologists often don't know a whole lot about celiac). Please, PLEASE don't put her back on gluten. I speak from experience, it is absolutely miserable. Is it really that important to your DH that he must make your daughter so awfully...
  12. You've been to aleia's?! I'm so jealous!! I bought there cookies at whole foods and I'm addicted. UNfortunately they're an hour away...but I will get there!!!
  13. This place can be tricky, but at the one near me, the manager has celiac so I didn't have a problem. But I think exact recipes vary from place to place.
  14. Congrats! In a pinch, I've resorted to toasting half a gluten-free bagel (I actually like the enjoy life ones, or kinnikinnick or glutino) with some margarine and garlic! It was pretty good, but your recipe sounds better
  15. I am not a fan of their breads, I have to say. The slices are tiny and really dense, and the texture is off. They're OK in a pinch, but I much prefer kinnikinnick's breads or homemade bread. There's better out there IMO, particularly if you're not used to gluten-free bread. But I do want to try the tortillas! Mission corn tortillas are good, but they're also...
  16. I haven't made it down to Aleia's yet...but they sell their cookies at whole foods, and those things are AMAZING!! Other CT restaurants I like: -Manchester's Texas Roadhouse has a celiac manager, so although they don't have a gluten-free menu they'll hook you up -Green Tea in Avon- Chinese Restaurant, and WOW are they helpful. I have talked to the...
  17. Hey, there are people from CT on the board, lol, I haven't seen any for a while. I have no idea about Mohegan Sun, but I can offer help with the Greater Hartford area Amanda, I think the OP meant the one in CT as this is where they are from...but there's one in PA too? cool!
  18. But I think this law only applies to food...I would call. I use culturelle which is gluten-free.
  19. I completely understand your frustration...that was pretty irresponsible of the teacher. What if your son had an anaphylactic allergy? He could have died. Kids his age don't really understand the consequences. On the other hand, I understand that the teacher doesn't really know much about allergies. I mean, it is such a way of life for us...personally...
  20. Take her off dairy. The villi (fingerlike projections along the intestines that increase its surface area to maximize absorbtion) are what is damaged when a celiac eats gluten, and the tips of the villi are what produce lactase, the enzyme that digests milk sugar. So even if your daughter is not allergic/intolerant to casein (the milk protein)almost all celiacs...
  21. I'm getting it myself I think I can't remember the last time I had it, I must have been a little kid! But I can't stop shivering and everything hurts...so I'm kinda thinking I've got it. Actually, I might never have had it...I got flu shots a lot bc I used to have bad asthma. At any rate, it's no fun! We can be sick together though! I love tradicional...
  22. Go natural, unprocessed- fruits and veggies galore, lean proteins (chicken, meat, fish, etc.). If you can tolerate grains (many with your intolerances can't) expand your horizons! Try Buckwheat, millet, quinoa, amaranth...the list goes on. Just because the typical american diet consists of overprocessed starch doesn't mean yours has to. Experiment with spices...
  23. You could also take gluten-free corn tortillas (mission are definitely safe) and bake them in the oven till they're crispy it's yummy and a lot lower fat than fried corn chips, if you need the salt fix you can spray them with butter spray (I even use cooking spray, pam is fine) and add your own
  24. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. However I do know that your thyroid needs iodine to function (which you probably knew) but the amount is small. Maybe talk to your doctor about dietary sources of iodide in which the amounts are big enough to help your thyroid but not so big to cause a reaction? I don't know how much that helps you. You could...

    ARCHIVED Pf Chang's

I'm sure if you ask them to make it for you (clean wok, gluten-free soy sauce, no seasoned pork/other pre-seasoned meats) it should be ok. My local chinese restaurant even does this for me
