  1. Hi Jenn Welcome to the thread. I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I wonder if you are suffering from vitamin deficiencies. Very low levels of Vitamin D can cause the kinds of trouble you are having, as can B12 deficiency. If you have been an untreated celiac for a long time, you may also be deficient in other B vitamins, A, E, K, and deficient...
  2. Martha- I make mint tea a quart at a time and put it in the fridge. Tazo makes a mint/tarragon tea that's very good.
  3. Coconut oil is solid below 70 degrees F. I don't refrigerate it, and if I need it in liquid form, I put the jar in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes.
  4. OK I just read up on Welch's on BTVC-SCD Yahoo groups that Welch's new formula contains ascorbic acid made from corn sugar. According to the group moderator this doesn't necessarily make it illegal but some people may react.
  5. I cook eggs and burgers in coconut oil, lots of it sometimes. Martha, if you are really no lnger bloating, I think adding in fruit one at a time might be a good idea. It could have been the Welch's, or just too much too soon. Last summer when I was newer to the diet, I ate a lot of blueberries and they made my gut grumble. They are also legal on the...
  6. Marthamom I suggest eliminating the welch's grape juice first. Today's product is made with concentrate which could be as refined as high fructose corn syrup. It is NOT the same juice that Elaine approved. The apple cider could be a problem if it is adulterated. I find some kinds of fruit bother me, some don't. I usually do okay with fruit I pick locally...
  7. Hi there In the book, Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic, Dr. Peter HR Green suggests the following reasons for not getting well on a gluten-free diet: Lactose Intolerance, which in many cases is temporary due to intestinal damage. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, due to bad bacteria thriving on undigested food. You may benefit from probioics...
  8. Hi Jan I think having a flare up while under a lot of stress is perfectly normal for us. We seem to carry stress in our guts--that's where our health issues manifest and that's why we are here. I feel pretty good most of the time digestively, but if I don't stick with my routine that works I run into problems. I had an episode of intense stress last...
  9. If you go to the top of the page and search rice dream you will find that many celiacs have a problem with it. It is made with barley and may contain traces of gluten. Here a one link: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/lofivers...php/t57794.html
  10. gossamer-- I only have one bit of advice: Please ask your doctors to give you written copies of all test results and read them yourself.
  11. The difference is most likely how the almonds are ground. You can actually bake with nut butter instead of nut flour with similar results, but you need to be aware of weight, rather than volume. I make almond butter by putting almonds through the champion juicer. I like to lightly roast them first. A lot of work, but at least that way I know what Im getting...
  12. Hi Sherry Glad to see you're still around. It's been a bit quiet.
  13. You have wegmans AND trader joes? and whole foods, too? Maybe I should move to where you are... I have never used Bob's almond flour, but I do use Trader Joe's Almond Meal with no problems. I know of a person who cannot tolerate almond skin, just blanched almonds.
  14. So do you think the almond flour had something else in it? Interesting about your daughter and sneezing. When I did a dairy experiment awhile back it gave me a runny nose along with fatigue and brain fog. You can do the SCD without dairy if you prefer. You can culture other things besides milk, like cabbage or coconut milk. Or take probiotic pills or...
  15. Wow, gobbie, what do you eat? Here is a link to the breaking the vicious cycle website that will give you info on the SCD, including the leagl foods list: Open Original Shared Link
  16. My only thought is if you have not been eating a lot of almonds, then maybe you just ate too much at a time. You don't need to eat any nut flours on the SCD, they are simply an option. Remember, the SCD is not so much about what you eat as what you do NOT eat.
  17. Hi There I don't think you have made yourself intolerant of other foods in two weeks. Probably you have been feeding a big colony of undesirable bacteria and pehaps yeast, and since you have eliminated the foods you can't digest, that the bacteria have been living on, there is a die-off. I'm sorry your mum thinks the diet is expensive. It is actually...
  18. So, does this mean you eat gluten? Have you tried a gluten-free diet? Celiac testing is not an exact science and is not reliable. False negatives are very high.
  19. Hi Janie From your last several posts, I get the feeling you are struggling to stay on the SCD, or any healthy diet. I would think that one hard and fast rule for anyone who is celiac or gluten-intolerant is plan ahead. Do not leave home without safe food. It could be too tempting to eat the wrong things if your blood sugar is low or you are really...
  20. Just curious--did they test you for adrenal failure or adrenal fatigue? Adrenal failure is Addison's Disease, while adrenal fatigue means the adrenals are still functioning, but not as well as they should. Adrenal fatigue is usually diagnosed with 4 saliva samples taken over 24 hours. I believe adrenal failure is a blood test. Also, have you been tested...
  21. My experience is similar. My energy level is very uneven. I also participate in sports and if things get intense and stressful, I just run out of steam instead of getting revved up. I attribute this to poor adrenal function and long term malnutrition. This article was recently posted on celiac.com Have you read it? It's quite illuminating. https://www...
  22. I have read elsewhere on the forum that Hershey's has a reputation for gluten contamination. I know Hershey's made me sick. Tirade away, Janie, no one will get mad at you, and we might even like what you have to say!
  23. Did we already talk about Vitamin D? You are describing what could be symptoms of severe Vitamin D deficiency. Have you been tested? It wouldn't hurt to start taking 5000 units of D3 per day.
  24. I finally made a fantastic coconut pudding. The recipe is on the dedicated SCD recipe thread.
  25. I want to mention to all the newbies who are having digestive ills: Have you considered that you may have pancreatic insufficiency and lack digestive enzymes? According to Dr. Green in Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic, this is one of the leading causes of not getting well. There is a feedback loop in the small intestine, when food enters, the pancreas is...
