  1. Hi MM Everyone is different but I'll tell you my story. When I went gluten-free, I noticed a huge difference in 48 hours, but one year later I was not healed, I still had unpredictable digestion and occasional D, so I started the SCD. I didn't notice a big drastic improvement right away, but the diet felt right and I stuck with it. It took a couple of...
  2. I finally came up with a decent recipe for Coconut Pudding, actually baked custard: 1 14 oz can coconut milk with no additives 4 medium eggs 1/3 cup honey 2 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut Put everything in the blender for a few seconds, until it's well mixed. Pour into a glass baking dish. 350 F until set 30-40 minutes. This...
  3. Are you taking D3? D2 is the prescription kind and doesn't stay in the system for long.
  4. Don't worry about the yogurt. I have been dairy-free since the first month of the diet. Kombucha is my probiotic of choice right now. You don't need to be a great cook, but you do need to take time to prepare your own food. You can't just stop off at the convenience store and pick up lunch! Making the intro chicken soup takes time, but doesn't require...
  5. Welcome! Yeah, it's a lot of pages, and maybe not so much good info an what the diet is. The SCD is based on the principle that gut problems involve a vicious cycle of damaged gut, undigested food and bad bacteria. By eliminating certain foods, specifically those with complex sugars which cannot be digested, the bad bacteria are starved and the gut...
  6. I just went wandering in search of new SCD recipes and found this website: Open Original Shared Link The site's author has Crohn's and is on the SCD. The recipes are SCD legal and gave me lots of new ideas.
  7. Metronidazole (flagyl)is used against c. diff., a nasty drug-resistent gut bug. see: Open Original Shared Link Pigeon peas are not mentioned in the BTVC book or website. The only beans I have found on the legal list are navy, kidney and black. Here is a link to the website in case you don't already have it: Open Original Shared Link I...
  8. You can drip it on the counter. I'd wait until it's cooled. BTW, since I am dairy-free, I've been looking into the possibility of making my own "live" sauerkraut or kimchi and I read that the bacteria eats the sugar in the fermenting process, producing tartness. I guess I knew that, but it never "clicked". Elaine says to culture the yogurt for 24 hours...
  9. Whitney--Here in the USA you would need a doc or nurse practitioner who specializes in functional medicine or anti-aging medicine. These are the folks known to who prescribe bioidentical hormones and often listen to the patient, not the blood test. There must be equivilant practitioners in France. Is there an alt-type or compounding pharmacy in your area...
  10. Marthamom I just read your other post and in regard to introducing new foods, Elaine was vague on this issue, said she couldn't make up her mind about the importance of an intro and thus each edition of BTVC contains different advice. I have had wonderful success with the diet and did no intro at all, just quit eating the illegal stuff, then slowly deleted...
  11. Hi marthamom Welcome to the forum. Almost all commercial yogurt contains thickening agents, without which it, too, would be runny. Try straining off some of the liquid by placing the finished yogurt in a clean cloth in a colander for a few hours. The liquid whey will drip through, leaving behind thicker yogurt. Also, since the diet doesn't include grains...
  12. Hi Sherry, Yay about the sugar test, I'm glad the SCD is working. Believe it or not, I give my horses ivermectin for strongyloides. Doesn't seem to bother them any.
  13. Hi Ali Sorry you haven't been well. You are a source of inspiration to the rest of us and provide us with good information on a variety of topics. Wish you were reaping more benefits! Roast lamb sonds good...
  14. Hi Janie Welcome to the thread. I hear you on the doctor thing. I also went gluten-free without an official diagnosis. Thankfully, we can treat gluten intolerance without a doctor's prescription. Does the AI diet allow corn? I have heard that for some people, corn is the eczema trigger. Hi Prayin4 There are theories that gut inflammation can manifest...
  15. I know what you mean. I love my new smooth skin, it is amazing. Thanks to those who replied with the same experience. I wonder how many, if any, dermatologists are aware that there may be a connection between gluten and those tiny bumps. I hope everyone reading this thread will tell their dermatologists! And I hope someone will do some scientific research...
  16. When Elaine said "fanatical adherence" in the book, she was advising parents of sick children not to give in to temptations to feed them things like birthday cake and ice cream. She was not talking about adults monitoring their own bodies and diets. I have the same issue with pecanbread. That is a site, approved by Elaine, to help parents of autistic children...
  17. Ok, I have one thing that I haven't seen anyone else mention: My whole life I had tiny bumps on the back of my arms, on my thighs and on my butt. (Are we allowed to say "butt" here?) I hated those bumps and was jealous of other women's smooth skin. Well, guess what? After a few gluten-free months, the bumps went away. Yay!
  18. Sounds like everyone needs some encouragement. At 4-5 months I was still a digestive basket case. Things really started to improve after 6 months. I have been on this diet for over a year. I feel great as long as I stay away from things that I know I can't handle, like dairy, and as long as I stay with the thyroid and adrenal support that I need. If I...
  19. Rice Guy I want to thank you for your tireless promotion of sublingual B12. Somewhere I read that blood tests may not mean much and a light clicked on in my brain. Oh, yeah, my blood level was normal, but I have every risk factor in the book. I've been using B12 for about 2 1/2 weeks now and it seems to be helping some with the late afternoon fatigue.
  20. Rice guy-- Pineapple is one of the few foods I crave all the time after two gluten-free years. I will check out bromelain. Thanks. JA and GFTG, I went decades undiagnosed, too. Still dealing with the damage to the endocrine system.
  21. I quit eating anything containing citric acid last summer, because it did bother me. Also, citric acid is not usually made from citrus but made from grain. In some cases, citric acid or lactic acid might be made from wheat.
  22. I've also been looking (unsuccessfully so far) for a sublingual B12 without sweeteners, artificial or otherwise. Anyone?
  23. clearsky Can you get a recommendation and find a really good doctor in your area? Maybe a functional medicine doc or someone who has one foot in the alt medicine world and truly knows about food issues? I'm worried about you. Throwing up in the middle of the night--eyebrows falling out. You need to find out what is going on.
  24. Hi Molly Like you, I went gluten-free about two years ago. One year ago I still felt awful with unpredictable digestion. I have been on the SCD for a year and feel that my digestion is pretty much healed. I am spending less on food and enjoying the diet thoroughly. I don't eat dairy, don't bother with beans, only rarely at lentils and don't bake much....
  25. Don't know if this is much help at this point, but I have been shopping around for sublingual B12 and many brands are made with LACTOSE. Are you lactose intolerant?
