  1. Tim, You are funny!! Some of us have posted stuff that no one has ever replied to! Okay, here goes: IBS: bloating gone in 2 days. The rest started to heal after about 4 months on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Is it healed yet?? I don't know, but the past two weeks have been good. Acid R: N/A Sleep: restless leg sydrome gone in two months...
  2. I'm going to re-emphais what has already been said: celiac tests are unreliable. In studies involving biopsy proven untreated celiacs, new blood tests miss as much as 35% of the time, in one study even more. Here's link to some recent research at the Mayo clinic Open Original Shared Link In addition, you can be gluten-intolerant without celiac disease...
  3. Sherry, I remember you mentioned this, and a few weeks ago when I got glutened, I cut way back on everything but meat for a couple of days. I think it helped. I feel better than ever. Maybe also feel good because I eliminated Welch's Grape Juice. Peppermint tea for me.
  4. Congratulations Ali! Your thread has passed 100 pages and 1500 posts!
  5. I have heard it said more than once that if your system is run-down due to years of glutening, then your adrenals may be in bad shape, causing increased allergies. Does this make sense regarding your histamine intolerance?
  6. "Doctor" Sorry, I couldn't resist...
  7. I also had an enlarging thyroid, lethargy and fatigue when in my twenties. I also had serious skin conditions. No one ever suggested a celiac test. Here I am, 30 years later, trying to get well after self-diagnosing two years ago. Everything Rinne says is true. If you have a gluten problem and keep eating it, you will be very sorry. It sounds like you...
  8. When I read your question, I remembered my own GI Doc experience. I had a list of celiac related questions and he did not want to talk about it at all. Just wanted to schedule a colonoscopy at the first visit and get rid of me at the second. And this was a self-proclaimed celiac specialist. So I hope you have a more positive experience. If your new...
  9. It may depend on how long you have been eating gluten and much damage has been done. Fatigue can result from malnutrition and also from thyroid or adrenal problems related to gluten. I have been gluten free for two years and still get very tired in the afternoon.
  10. Whitney you are right. I shoud have been diagnosed decades ago, but if I had, I would not have had any information source or support and might not have stayed on a gluten-free diet anyway. For you right now I think the most important thing is to stay on a healing path. The basic principles of the SCD make a lot of sense, and the getting one's diet away...
  11. Yuck! I saw a show on TV once about fermented fish that is considered a delicacy someplace (Iceland? Greenland?)
  12. Okay, Wendy, I have a question for you. Do you recommend ashwagandha for celiacs with adrenal fatigue? Who are on hydrocortisone supplementation? Why or why not? Thanks for your wonderful, thoughtful articles. Can't wait to read your book.
  13. The jar was unopened and the olives were delicious, so I don't think they were spoiled. And I had gut inflammation that lasted for 10 days. Do we need to eat raw foods to get enzymes?
  14. Fresh greens are growing again. Tonight for dinner I had a mix of dandelion greens, kale and chard from the garden.
  15. Nut Candy Can't remember where I saw the original on this, but it is irresistible. I have to put most of it in the freezer so I don't eat it all at once. 1/4 cup coconut oil 1 cup honey Boil on low for 15 minutes. Add 2 tsp vanilla Add 5 cups of nuts, I use raw cashews, raw pecans and dry roasted peanuts. Keep on heat and stir for 5 more minutes...
  16. Don't see why not. I use Trader Joe's. It hasn't been recalled yet! My current favorite: finely ground hazelnuts vanilla extract honey I never measure. A couple handfuls of nuts, a big spoonful of honey, a capful of vanilla.
  17. Now that I am feeling better, I looked up lactic acid on the www and discovered that lactic acid used in food can be made from wheat. The green olives I ate were in a jar with an old label that had no allergy info. So I think I got glutened. Geesh. I also have not had any Welch's Grape Juice in two days and low and behold, my mouth is no longer dry all...
  18. I figured it out all by myself at age 55. And like I told my husband just this morning, it's not like I never went to a doctor. I have had a lifetime of symptoms starting with indigestion as an infant. At the time I figured it out, I had two doctor's appointments scheduled 3 months out. I didn't know enough at the time to call and insist on immediate bloodwork...
  19. I don't know but I do know I had a bad reaction last summer to citric acid. I suspect my recent setback was due to lactic acid in the green olives. So if Welchs contains acid, it may be bothering me. I have already quit drinking it but plan to do a grape juice "challenge" next week. This is probably one of those things that depends on the individual. I...
  20. Funny, I have been wondering the same thing since I noticed it is made with grape juice concentrate. I can't believe Elaine would approve. I have been diluting it with up to 80% water but I think I am going to stop drinking it when I run out.
  21. Hi nmr Hunger has been a problem for me, too. I have to keep reminding myself that in BTVC, Elaine says quantities can be as large as you want. I am having a hard time convincing myself it is okay to eat a lot of eggs, chicken and beef, but that's what fills me up and calms down the guts. Four ounces of chicken or beef per meal does not cut it. I need...
  22. Anne Welcome to the forum. I see you have gotten some excellent advice from other posters. Let me add a couple of things. Ask your doctor's office for written copies of all of lab results. The fact that the nurse first said everything else was fine and missed the celiac is alarming. What else did they not tell you? Second, if you have been diagnosed...
  23. Guess I hadn't checked in for a couple of days. I've been busy, plus my guts are hurting. I don't know why. Stress? Gluten crumbs on the counter? Something else I ate? The only different thing I had were some jarred green olives with some strange ingredients, nothing that looked like gluten. I wonder if my healing guts are still very sensitive to chemicals...
  24. Betcha after about ten days you won't even miss it.
  25. Gentleheart Are you eating lentils, split peas, kidney beans, honey, hazelnuts, cashews, peanuts and pecans? These things can make a difference if you are only eating meat and veggies with a little fruit. If you go off the diet, I hope you will stay off processed foods of any type. I think that is one of the keys to success.
