ARCHIVED Search sems to have stopped working
GFinDC replied to Posterboy's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I am searching from this page using the search forum using Google box. No problem from that page at least. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/ -
5 to 6 weeks for me. That doesn't mean the autoimmune attack has topped completely, just that I don't feel symptoms.

GFinDC replied to Jmg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I've definitely experienced the broken cookie... The mini donuts seem to have drained away slowly though. Thanks for the link JMG, interesting list of symptoms! -

ARCHIVED Not Celiac - is it ok to reduce rather than eliminate gluten?
GFinDC replied to Pumpkin2017's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Pumpkin, A person with no reaction to gluten should not notice any change from not eating it. So, your average Joe who eats gluten all the time wouldn't notice any change, except they might lose weight from not eating so many carbs. Gluten is not a required nutrient in our diets. I am not saying it is good for anyone either, just that most people... -
ARCHIVED Not Celiac - is it ok to reduce rather than eliminate gluten?
GFinDC replied to Pumpkin2017's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Pumpkin, Not enough is known about NCGS to tell if it does any long term damage yet, or what levels of ingestion could be harming people. You might want to try a FODMAP free diet though and see if that helps your symptoms. Have you had your vitamin and mineral levels checked lately? In celiac there are problems absorbing many vitamins and ... -
ARCHIVED Elevated Iga From Celiac Disease Test. I Do Not Have Celiac Disease…
GFinDC replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi CT, Do you understand that if you are not eating gluten the testing won't work? The whole point of us not eating gluten is so that our bodies can heal. So going off gluten is going to mess up any celiac testing. So if you want your doctor to test you for celiac you have to stay on gluten until all the testing is done. -
ARCHIVED Elevated Iga From Celiac Disease Test. I Do Not Have Celiac Disease…
GFinDC replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you don't have the genes, it is very unlikely for you to get celiac disease. If you have the genes, you have a 1% chance out of 100 or 110 to get celiac disease. If you have positive anti-gliaden antibodies, and a positive celiac biopsy, then you have celiac disease. If you have the genes and you have celiac disease, then you are like most... -
ARCHIVED Elevated Iga From Celiac Disease Test. I Do Not Have Celiac Disease…
GFinDC replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi CT, The gene test can tell you if you have the genes associated with celiac disease. It can't tell you that you will get celiac disease. About 30% of people have a gene for celiac, but only about 1% actually get celiac disease. So you can go gluten-free, but you'll never know if you would have gotten celiac disease or not. Medical science... -
ARCHIVED Elevated Iga From Celiac Disease Test. I Do Not Have Celiac Disease…
GFinDC replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi CT, You asked some questions that there are no definite answers for right now. So you are going to have to make your decisions based on incomplete knowledge. You asked if it is possible to prevent the development of celiac disease by avoiding most gluten now. There is no clear cut answer on that yet. In the past doctors believed that celiac... -
ARCHIVED chex and fruity pebbles, safe or not
GFinDC replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the link pdm1981. Yep, it's a bit of a controversy whether or not the Cheerios are safe for celiacs or not. This link below to General Mills has links to info on their gluten-free efforts. I like their statement on the bottom of the Lucky Charms page that says they check for gluten at 3 different stages. But I don't eat oats at all myself,... -
ARCHIVED Gastritis that just won't quit.... help!
GFinDC replied to Court L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Courtl, If you think you have sibo, you can try changing your diet to make it harder for the bacteria to multiply. What you could do is avoid all sugar and carbs. Bacteria love that stuff and multiply like crazy when they have lot of it to eat. Instead eat meats, veggies, nuts and eggs. Rice is very carby and so are potatoes, so avoid them. ... -
ARCHIVED Help with pathology report
GFinDC replied to Stringcheese32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree mostly. The only thing I'd suggest is the lactose intolerance test may be affected if the lactose intolerance is caused by celiac damage and she goes gluten-free before the lactose test. Since lactose intolerance can be caused by celiac damage, if she goes gluten-free now there is a possibility her villi will heal enough to eliminate the lactose... -
Hi Fergusminto, Dr. Alessio Fassano is the leading researcher on celiac disease. He has suggested a link between gut bacteria, genes, and food intolerance. He discovered a chemical called zunulin that regulates the passage of "stuff" from the gut into the body. It seems people with celiac disease make too much of this zonulin in their body. Anyway...

You sound like someone who would like the sugar free peanut butter fudge! Open Original Shared Link I've been adding a couple tablespoons of sugar free red raspberry jam to the fudge. It's snowing here today! Down to 18 here last night. I am getting over a sinus thing myself. Time for more fudge!

ARCHIVED Acid Reflux - Throat Tightening - 4+ months gluten free
GFinDC replied to Dv1983's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello Dv1983, I haven't had acid reflux myself. But I had plenty of other symptoms. I suppose there is a chance your corn or other foods have started to cause a problem. The thing to do first IMHO, is to think back over the past time to anything you might have changed in your diet. Did you try a new brand of corn meal? Or add some other new... -
ARCHIVED New to site...having suspicious symptoms..HELP!
GFinDC replied to clutchlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi clutchlee, The burning sensation could be GERD (acid reflux) or esonopilic esophagitis, or maybe gastritis. All of those can be related to celiac disease symptoms also. Fatigue is a common problem with celiac as it impairs the gut's ability to absorb nutrients You can ask for a celiac blood test to be done. You should keep eating at least... -
Yep, the rice cakes are good stuff! I like Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty gluten-free hot cereal too. I don't eat it often, but in the winter its nice on a cold morning. Sometimes raisins and peanut butter or a banana fall into it while it's cooking too. Or I'll have sausage patties pre-cooked in the refrig to eat with home made corn muffins. Lately I've...

ARCHIVED chex and fruity pebbles, safe or not
GFinDC replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've eaten Rice Chex with no problem. I'll probably try Corn Chex soon. I think I read that the Cheerios might be ok, but I don't eat oats so won't try them. -
ARCHIVED What's the deal with oils and fried foods?
GFinDC replied to Vycki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vycki hasn't been back to the forum since starting this thread on 22-Dec-16. Oh well. Maybe someone else will get benefit from the replies. -
That's great that you tried eliminating oats already. Maybe the flu is really the only problem. I sometimes eat Quaker plain rice cakes with peanut butter for breakfast. Bummer that you can't do eggs tho! I am with you on the no dairy bandwagon. Darn nasty stuff!
-
Hi Arasmas, I see you are still eating oats. You might not know that some of us react to oat gluten like we react to other gluten. The same immune reaction happens. To find out if they (oats) bother you, you can eliminate them for a month and see what happens when you try them again.

Right, if he has celiac disease, he should be eating gluten until all testing is done. The testing is usually a blood draw first for testing antibodies to gliaden, a protein in wheat. If the antibodies are positive, then they set up an endoscopy to take 4 to 6 biopsy samples from the small intestine lining. He doesn't need to eat a lot of gluten for the...
