  1. Hi, It looks like they gave you only the typical screening test ttg IgA. That ttg-IgA test catches a lot of people with celiac but not all. You could ask them to the full celiac panel. The full celiac panel includes DGP IgA and DGP IgG, plus anti endomesial IgA and total serum IgA. You've had the total serum IgA and it is good, so your body does...
  2. i cut way back on sugar years ago, when I started having leg cramps on waking. I think reducing sugar does help reduce or eliminate food cravings, especially if you eat fewer carbs. I use Pyure sugar free sweetner in my tea. I get sugar-free jams or jelly sometimes. I even made sugar free peanut butter fudge a few times, There are lots of sugar free...
  3. By the way, there is another forum thread with the exact same title. Strange world eh? Sometimes it's best to laugh at these things though. Cause there ain't nothing else to do about it! This funny pages link is the original thread, now closed due to excessive size. The follow on thread is around somewhere. The new funny pages thread has been...
  4. Hi Celina, Yes, you should talk to a doctor about the rash. It is a symptom and should be explored. But it would help if you can talk to a doctor who knows what the h.e. double toothpicks celiac disease and DH are too. Can you find a celiac support group in your area to talk too? They might have ideas on doctors who can help with your diagnosis. ...
  5. Hi WW, Hi WW, You may not want to eat wheat but you can eat pizza, donuts, bread and pretzels, cereal etc that are gf. There are GF mixes also, to make your own bread, cakes, brownies, cookies etc at home. I suggest you take it easy on those kinds of food for a while though, as they can make healing and recovery slower IMHO. To be honest...
  6. Hi Celina, I don't know if you are aware there is a skin rash associated with celiac disease? It is an autoimmune condition like celiac disease and is called DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). DH usually appears on both sides of the body. It is caused by IgA antibodies in the skin. If you have DH, they can test for it by taking a small skin biopsy from...
  7. Hi Jm34, If it is a celiac reaction you are having you can't expect it to resolve in a couple days. The immune system response is not going to stop that fast. Generally it will take weeks to months for the immune response to slow down or stop.
  8. Bummer! My left eye will occasionally swell shut. Usually I don't notice it until I wake up in the morning. I've found that it is related to how well I keep my teeth cleaned up on the top left side of my mouth. My dentist didn't believe me when I told him about it and couldn't find anything that would explain it, even with x-rays. But it only happens...
  9. Hi Jerry, We try and encourage people to get tested for celiac disease before starting the GF diet because it is much easier to be tested then. Going off gluten reduces the antibodie levels in the blood stream so testing won't be accurate after being gf. Some people don't want to bother with testing though or have some reasons they don't want to do...
  10. That's good the bad bacs are going away CL. Antibiotics are certainly helpful sometimes. I think a good backup if you can't do aspirin is wine, but it's kinder expensive too. I imagine you'll feel a lot better once the bad tooth is gone. I saw a story about a 26 year old man who had a tooth infection that killed him. So getting old and having a...
  11. I think antibiotics tend to make people sick because they kill the bacteria in our guts. We need a proper balance of gut bacteria to digest our food. I never take ibuprofen or Tylenol myself, as they have too many risks imho. Plain aspirin works great, you may have to take it more often perhaps.
  12. Hi Tiktea, Udi's millet-chia bread is dairy free. I think some Kinickkinick prudcts are df but not all. Enjoy Life makes some products that are free of the top 8 allergens, including dairy. Mi-Del makes some gf/df cookies. Flourless peanut butter cookies are easy to make, and don't need any dairy. Mission corn tortillas are dairy gf/df/sf too. ...
  13. Hi Salina, I am sorry to hear about your son's pain. It does take some time to heal from celiac damage to the gut. My gut had spasms for about 5 to 6 weeks after going gf. The worst of it will probably be over in a week or 2 though. In the meantime, the cleaner of gluten you can keep his diet the faster he will recover. Celiac disease is an autoimmune...

    ARCHIVED New Dx of DH

Hi RNinGA, IMHO it's really helpful for anyone with celiac disease going gf to stick with a simple whole foods diet for the first 6 months. It's much easier to avoid gluten exposure in our foods if the foods we are eating are naturally gf, like meats, veggies, nuts, and eggs. Also the ingredients lists are much shorter and faster to read on whole foods...
  15. Hi Gerald, I don't think you'll get anywhere on your health issues unless you find out for sure if you have allergies. Allergies are a simple thing to test for and it should not be hard to find a doctor to test you for them.
  16. Hi Gerald, JMG is right, the sneezing and runny nose and mouth irritation are more like IgE symptoms, which is allergies. Allergies are not something to play around with though, as the reactions can suddenly worsen and cause anaphylaxis and death. So it would be wise to get tested for allergies IMHO. It is possible to become allergic to meats also...
  17. Hi Gerald, Welcome to the forum! I have some theories for you that might help. Did you know that many doctors are rubbish at diagnosing celiac disease? It is not unusual for people to be given multiple wrong diagnoses over a period of years before finally being diagnosed with celiac disease. At one time the average period to be correctly diagnosed...
  18. Hi Zhamay, For one thing soy is a goitrogen, which means it interferes with thyroid function. For another there was a study some years back that showed baby rats fed soy formula had slower maturing gut cells. Anything that interferes with the gut like that is potentially bad for people with gut problems IMHO. Almost all soy is also GMO now, so it...
  19. I don't recommend soy to anyone actually. It is nasty stuff in several ways. Almond milk or coconut milk or rice milk are better choices IMHO.
  20. Hi Marie, Now you are living eh? That kind of reaction means your body is going through changes. Most likely your gut is trying to heal, which is good. One of the things about healing the villi lining the gut is they grow back and that new surface area becomes home to even more bacteria. So the gut bacteria balance can get out of whack. Any...
  21. The site seems to be running faster now. Possibly an anti-issue.
  22. Hi Zhamay, Welcome to the forum! I hope you can get in sooner for the endoscopy. Sometimes doctor offices have a standby list you can get on for cases when someone doesn't show up, and you can take their spot. Might be worth asking about. You don't need to eat a lot of gluten to keep the immune reaction going. One slice of gluten bread daily...
  23. I think the time for DH to go away after gf is variable, but 6 months is possible. Reducing iodine intake is meant to be a short term thing until the flare subsides. I am not an expert on DH but the members who have DH say reducing iodine helps them get over rash flare-ups.
  24. Welcome to the forum celichris! I wonder if they tested you for dermatitis herpetiformis (DH)? DH is an autoimmune skin rash that people with celiac disease sometimes get. DH causes itchy blistering lesions that appear symetrically on both sides of the body. They test for DH by taking a small skin biopsy from skin next to a lesion, but not on it....
  25. Check in the Dermatitis Herpetiformis forum section. I think they have some threads suggesting various things besides Dapsone.
