  1. Since you all are talking about wax, and it's getting to be the cold and dry air time of year,.. You can make a hand/skin lotion very easily. Just get some beeswax and melt it with a little olive oil. Stir it and let it cool. The oil will keep it soft or even liquidy if you add enough. That's all there is to it. Unless you want to add wonderful additional...
  2. And in the immortal closing wurdz of Leesur (GottaSki) in the Funny pages thread that was laid to rest: "No hangover here" Such an inspiration! Quite a goal for us all to strive for Lessur! Yes, we now have a new standard of eggzallence to stumble towardz, or crawl towardz in some cases, for this holiday season. OK, for those so encumbered...
  3. Right Wolfie, nighshades are peppers, tomatoes, white potatoes (not sweet taters) and eggplant. Onions and garlic are not a problem if it is nightshades she is worried about.
  4. Hi FreedomS You may indeed find your bad foods will be ok later. I had bad hafever before gluten-free, but don't have much of a problem since being gluten-free. When you are eating gluten your gut is damaged and many foods can cause a reaction. Affter 6 months or so it would be ok to try some of the suspect foods in small quantities. One at a time...

Join us this Saturday, Nov. 17 for a meeting at Tenley-Friendship Public Library covering "Adolescents and Young Adults with Celiac Disease & Gluten Free Travel." In an effort to more effectively plan for the appropriate number of...
  6. I got sick once from sitting in a pizza place with the guy tossing pizza in the air. Throwing flour on the board and then patting it out and tossing the dough up and all that fancy - schmancy pizzza stuff they do. I suppose it was the flour in the air thing that got me. I don't get sick walking through the bakery aisle at a grocery store though. I...
  7. I saw a blurb about the Mayo Clinic recently where they said they have 3,300 doctors and treat 500,000 patients a year. That Works out to about 151 patients for each doctor, each year. If they work 231 days a year (365 minus weekends 104, -10 holidays - 20 vacation days = 231 work days), they would have 1.5 days for each patient. Assuming they consult...
  8. Carrots bother me too. So I don't eat them anymore. With celiac disease the damage to the gut can lead to food intolerances of many kinds. Carrots are one of them, for some of us.
  9. That's great that your family are coming around DT. Learning to eat healthy food is so important for them also. It is a skill they can use their whole lives. And maybe pass onto their children. Hopefully they won't become celiac or gluten sensitive, but it might happen someday. Or someone they know may need help with it.
  10. Welcome to the forum BJPN. Getting it out fast does sound like a good thing!
  11. The doctors are slowly catching on... Thanks for the link!
  12. @Skylark, I think it will be fine for a lot of people, just not celiacs. I totally agree the Domino's pizza should not be labeled gluten-free, if it is not gluten-free when served to the table. And it's obvious from what Domino's said themselves, it is not gluten-free when it comes out of their kitchens. I would prefer they call i t low gluten or gluten...
  13. IMHO start /I have had that kind of thing happen also. I think it is spasms in the gut or innards if you want to get technical. Your intestines are actually lined with strong muscles. If they get irritated they may let you know that by going into spasms. Basically twitchy irregular contractions. /I had this for several weeks when I first went gluten...
  14. I think they ought to call their pizza low-gluten, but not gluten free. There are lots of people now trying the gluten-free diet, for many reasons besides celiac. People with Crohn's, diabetes, or other autoimmune disease for instance, and also people who just like the idea of eating a healthier diet. For them a low-gluten pizza would possibly make sense...
  15. They can be stubborn. My younger brother with T-2 diabetes and GI problems almost certainly has celiac, but he won't try the diet. My other brother is probably NCGI at least, but not interested in trying the diet either. I think letting them know once in awhile that it helps and isn't the end of the world to not eat gluten may have an impact eventually...
  16. Here is an article that might help him out on the non-symptoms part: Latent Celiac Disease Afflicts Many Who Tolerate Gluten Celiac.com 11/08/2007 - A team of doctors led by Christophe Cellier from the Hopital European Georges Pompidou in Paris examined a group people who were diagnosed with celiac disease as children and who tolerated the introduction...
  17. Great info Takala, thanks for that! I wonder if they tested him for vitamin/mineral deficiencies? That could be a sign of malabsorbtion if he has any. Which might point to some form of gut damage. Another thread on topic.
  18. 19. Hi LLT,

I went on the gluten-free diet at the beggining of Dec 2007 and joined this site that month. I had symptoms for 10 years before that though. Well actually more like 20 years but they got worse over time.

I took me quite a while to learn the ropes of the gluten-free diet. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. Fun times! :-)

  20. how long have you had celiac (or just been gluten-free?) sry if i do not reply for a while, my access 2 the computer is limited n i usually choose 2 spend my time on YouTube ;)

  21. Tomatoes, peppers, potatoes. Don't eat 'em. Actually eggplant is probably an issue also, but I don't eat it so I don't know for sure if I would react. I think one problem is alkaloids in nightshades that some people don't handle well. I think the alkaloids are bad for everybody but most people can stand a certain amount. That's why they say not to eat...
  22. Hi Emryee, Welcome to the forum! I have had lots for the swelling puffy parts issues myself. My feet used to be swollen and my ankles and feet were marshmallow man style also. I quit wearing socks except at work and always took my shoes/socks off as soon as I could when getting home from work. When I took my socks off there were always big 1/4 inch...
  23. I had OCD tendencies pre-gluten-free. I would get stuck on the same thought pattern over and over and not be able to get off it. I knew it was happening but wasn't able to stop the repetition. it sucked in a major way. I was also short tempered and would get angry and frustrated. Which I hated because it was not the way I wanted to be. And very different...
  24. OK, this is not a BLOG in the traditional Victorian sense. It is more a collection of interesting and informative threads and articles on celiac.com that might helpful to people. This is a place where users of celiac com can share thread or article links that might otherwise get buried in the flood of posts. Feel free to suggest threads or articles that...
  25. They do have celiac listed, but don't seem to say anything about active antibodies. Seems like they could have paired celiac up with Crohn's instead of hemophilia. I suppose if someone contacted them they would say if they need people with active antibodies. I guess we all know how to get active antibodies pretty quickly. Doesn't really seem worth it...
