  1. Hi Ginger, The bloating probably is due to celiac disease. But there are things you can do to alleviate it. If you are eating dairy, stop. At least for a couple months. If you are eating sugar or other carbs, or processed foods, stop. Wait a month or 2 before trying to add foods back one at a time. Also, try some probiotics, and some digestive...
  2. Hi Len, you could also look at getting some DPP-IV or DPP-4. DPP-4 is an enzyme reputed to break down gluten to some extent anyway. Of course, the testing was done in a lab and not a person. And it wasn't a complete and perfect thing because you have to know the correct amount of enzyme to add to the gluten portion to break it down. At least DPP...
  3. For me rice became a problem for a couple years. Grapes were a problem also. Neither of them are a big problem now.
  4. Great! It's nice that they confirmed your result. You may as well take the same test info to your doctor appointment. They may not accept it but maybe they will.
  5. Hi Dalek, The next usual test after positive antibodies is an endoscopy. I imagine the doctor will set up an endoscopy next, unless they decide to do the full celiac disease antibodies panel first. The full antibodies panel includes DGP IgA and DGP IgG tests plus anti-endomesial antibodies (EMA). The full panel isn't strictly necessary, but it is...
  6. Hmm, Dr Who sometimes didn't know what to do, but he always figured it out in the end! Here's some nutrition info from the Mars UK site. Looks like they put barley in the Milky Way. Open Original Shared Link Ingredients sugar...
  7. H John, Welcome to the forum! Have you been tested for celiac disease? If not you may want to get that test setup right away. you have to be eating gluten for the celiac testing to be valid. In fact, if you are going to get tested, you should start eating gluten again right away. Many foods can cause symptoms when you have celiac disease...
  8. That's a nice article on nightshades, thanks for sharing!
  9. I've never heard of it either, but found a link selling it. Open Original Shared Link So mimiii, what did the instructions in the test kit say about reading the results? What do they mean? It looks like a good test that might be helpful for people. and welcome to the forum!
  10. Hi cristiana, I had my nodule checked a couple months ago. First time in 4 years to have it checked. Mine is still benign, like before. But it has grown to double the size. Since my nodule is in a cyst, they drain the fluid around it first. That helped a lot with swallowing, and the cyst still hasn't swollen back up significantly. So getting the...
  11. I think it's a good idea to see your doctor. There are so many possible causes for lightheaded feelings that it makes sense to get some basics checked. I had some fainting spells and such years ago after going gluten-free. I just fell over in my chair a few times. It didn't usually get that bad though. I had an EKG and tests but the doctors didn...
  12. Hi SarahC, What you are describing is known as gluten ataxia. Gluten ataxia impacts the brain. We do have members who have had gluten ataxia and recovered substantially. You can try a search of the forum to find their posts, or maybe they will see your thread and reply. Welcome to the forum SarahC
  13. The recommended gluten challenge is 12 weeks before the blood antibodies tests, and 2 weeks before the endoscopy. That challenge period is eating at least some amount of gluten each day. A slice of toast or a cracker is fine. If you haven't done a proper gluten challenge the test results are not always accurate.
  14. About the only thing I bake is corn meal muffins sometimes. I use corn meal and masa (corn) flour. Works ok for me. If you have a grinder you can grind your own flours from whatever you like. They sell egg replacer in some stores. I haven't tried it so not sure how it works. There were some long threads on baking bread a while back. You might find...
  15. I am not sure if there are any new treatments for gluten ataxia. Complete avoidance of all gluten is the most important treatment. This Dr. Hadjivassiliou did some studies on gluten ataxia. You might find more info by looking up his research. Here are a few links with info. Nuerological symptoms without gastro symptoms Open Original Shared Link ...
  16. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Iron, calcium, and Vitamin D are the most common deficiencies, but some present with deficiencies in B12, copper, folate, magnesium, niacin, riboflavin, and/or zinc. Nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease are due to intestinal damage caused by protein in wheat, rye, and barley. In...
  17. Hi again MM, Looks like we cross-posted. Please don't be offended by the interest in getting people to be tested. So many times people come on the forum and miss the opportunity for testing because they started the gluten-free diet thinking it wouldn't matter to the testing, but it does, Then if they decide to get tested later it is very unpleasant...
  18. Hi MM, I think you are assuming gluten intolerant is ok and there isn't any need to be careful with gluten if it is NCGS. We don't really know if that is true. Certainly people with NCGS can have symptoms from exposure to gluten. We don't know much about NCGS yet, so we don't know if there are any long term consequences to a person with NCGS eating...
  19. Hi NightSky, It's been fine for me. My doctors accept that I have celiac. I haven't had any specific followup testing though. so I guess its not a big deal to them either. That's ok with me. Nope, I never had a bone scan that I know of anyway. I broke my left elbow in 5 places years ago and maybe they did one then, but I never heard about it...
  20. I can't eat Honey Nut Chex. I can eat the Rice Chex though. But that is pretty rare that I eat them.
  21. Hi, Gluten ataxia is the term for the brain affecting condition in celiac disease. It can cause a variety of neuro symptoms, including difficulty walking. If seems like recovery from nerve related issues can be slower than some other types of damage. The immune system is very powerful and doesn't give up on a fight easily. So it takes time for the...
  22. Hi peterjohn123, Welcome to the forum! I think this parapgraph snipped from the Celiac Disease Foundation link below answers your question. There is also lots more interesting information on that page that might be interesting to you. One thing you should know is that celiac is related to certain genes, so it can be prevalent in families. Having...
  23. Hi Gillian, I suggest you limit flours for a few months at least. Forget about baked goods and concentrate on meats, veggies, nuts and eggs. Around here (OHIO, USA) the only flours I use are corn meal and corn masa. They are off the shelf and not labeled gluten-free but work fine for me. They are not expensive either. One in a while I make corn...
  24. Hi Shelby, Welcome to the forum! Your testing situation isn't unusual. Way too often it happens that doctors will tell people to "try" the gluten-free diet, instead of doing testing. And now with the popularity of the gluten-free diet as a cure-all for all kinds of symptoms, many people decide to try it themselves without getting tested first...
  25. Their published allergens list doesn't show any MSG in their products. Maybe you are reacting to something else though? Perhaps check all the ingredients for the foods you ate that day to see if there are any common ingredients? Open Original Shared Link Being sick and not knowing what caused it is no fun. Sorry. And welcome to the forum...
