  1. I quit eating the Quaker chocolate rice cakes also. Not sure what is in them that makes me sick but they sure don't agree with me. Awhile later I stopped all flavored rice cakes as they didn't work no matter what flavor they were. But I can eat plain old rice fine. I hope one of the tests they did was thyroid levels? That being off can sure make...
  2. Hi ch88, You could try going nightshade free to see if it helps your arthritis. It might help. The common food nightshades are potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, turmeric and paprika. If you try nightshade free for one month that should be enough time to know if it helps IMHO. Sweet potatoes/yams are ok, as they are not nightshades.
  3. This page on the Pepsi site has a chart that lists allergens that are in some of their beverages. http://www.pepsicobeveragefacts.com/home/Allergens It's a pretty handy chart to look at and find the info. Their sodas are not listed as having wheat, but they didn't put barley in the chart. Rats.
  4. Hi duliano, Was he tested for celiac disease? If he is positive for celiac disease, you'll need to spend some time learning about it. Celiac disease tends to run in families, so you and your spouse should also be tested if it is celiac. There is another condition called NCGS which some people have. Those people also get sick from eating wheat...
  5. Charmin has released an important new tool for celiac sufferers, the SitorSquat bathroom finder. No more running in circles or trying every door in the building in a desperate rush. Now you can know right where to go. Get it today for Android phones. https://www.charmin.com/en-us/about-us/sitorsquat?gclid=CjwKCAjw-qbLBRB7EiwAftBCI6Zc52q7S3svyfGqqz...
  6. It certainly is dramatic!
  7. You weren't anonymous when you wrote this reply. But your last visited date is still wrong. Are you running any script blockers that might interfere with the date tracking? Cookies blocked maybe? Darn, I guess you'll never see my reply since you don't login any more....
  8. Hi cristiana, My ulcer was sometime after going gluten-free. It was more a constant pain in a definite area, not spread out or diffuse. I wouldn't call it mild pain myself, but it wasn't so bad I couldn't function with aspirin and wine to get to sleep. Aspirin fairly often though and that in itself is not good for your stomach. Your throat feeling...
  9. Hi cristiana, One of the things they recommend people with heartburn do is to sleep in a more upright position. Similar to sitting in bed. Maybe try that and see if it helps. I had a stomach ulcer in the upper left part of the stomach for a while. Whenever I laid on my left side the acid in my stomach would wash over that area and cause increased...
  10. Thanks for your post Sue. What happened to you is an example of why it is best to start the gluten-free diet without dairy. It can be hard to identify what food is causing a digestive problem when our guts are constantly irritated and are reacting to all foods. So people can go months having symptoms from dairy and not realize what is causing the issues...
  11. There are some nutritional issues to watch out for in a vegan diet. Personally I don't think it's great idea when the person has a chronic digestive disease that is responsible for causing mal-absorption of nutrients. Vegan in a celiac seems kind of like pouring gas on a fire. The vegan diet makes getting some important nutrients harder, and celiac disease...
  12. There are several celiac centers in CA. You may have to travel a bit to get to one. Of course that's pretty normal for CA anyway! https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/additional-information/hospitals-labs/
  13. Hmm, here is the list of ingredients for the pre-cooked turkey sausage links. I am not sure if they are the really the problem, but I don't eat them myself, so who knows? Carmel color is generally safe and is derived from corn in the USA at least. Maybe it would be good to contact the company and see what they have to say. https://www.jimmydean.com...
  14. Hi Gunz, It would be a good idea to have your vitamin and mineral levels checked. Celiac disease can cause malabsorption and that can lead to many problems and symptoms. Our bodies really do need vitamins and minerals to function correctly. When we don't get enough of certain vitamins and minerals we can have symptoms that vary widely. you may have...
  15. Right, cc is a known issue. With coffee it is a somewhat unusual issue I think, but then I don't drink coffee anymore but rarely. Maybe if you can ditch the Keurig machine you can try grinding your own beans and avoid the possibility of cc? I want to mention B-12 and D vitamins, as celiacs are sometimes low on them. But it sounds like your medical...
  16. I have seen flavored teas with barley in them. Anything that has added flavor is a possible problem IMHO, and needs to be checked. Or avoided. Avoidance is actually a pretty effective solution usually. Aristotlescat seems to be saying that the forum members don't understand the cross-contamination issue. But I don't see where anyone suggested cross...
  17. Hi Aristotlescat, Going off coffee is not a bad thing for an ill person. Coffee puts a strain on our bodies as it creates an artificial boost and then a crash. That isn't a good thing if your body is struggling to maintain itself IMHO. Would you consider dropping the coffee for a month to see if it helps? It may or may not, all depends on how...
  18. Hi Ennis, Sorry to see you are still having tooth problems. Some people say oil pulling is helpful for dental health. I am not sure myself. I do find Plax dental rinse before brushing is helpful for getting rid of dental tatar buildup. Hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds prior to brushing. It softens tartar and makes it easier for a brush to remove...
  19. An elimination diet would be a good idea. And start with oats as you might be one of the celiacs who react to them. Any carbs, sugar and processed foods are a possible source of bloating too. Probiotics might help. Antibiotics can really mess up the gut flora so it needs to be re-established with good stuff. Ennis is right, additional food intolerances...
  20. I hope Kristen meant leaky gut, not leaky brain.
  21. Yep. The one that is most relevant I think is the post by Backtalk. Backtalk went back on gluten and have to a colostomy done on an emergency basis. Not fun. She regretted ignoring the gluten-free diet.
  22. Hi Jennifer, This thread might have some information that would help you. Your doctors are pretty lame IMHO. Perhaps you can find a celiac group in your area that has local meetings for support. They might also suggest a different doctor who knows how to treat celiac patients.
  23. I get dry eyes from drinking tea. A reaction to it for some reason. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it as in one case at least a food reaction can cause dry eyes.
  24. Usually soy sauce is made with gluten in it. For a buffet you would have to make sure they make all the food with gluten-free soy sauce, which is unlikely. And an awful lot of Chinese food has soy sauce in it.
  25. If you look into growing your own mushrooms in plastic bags and sawdust. you'll find that they sometimes recommend adding rye or other flour to the sawdust mixture the mushrooms are grown in. That doesn't mean the mushrooms are full of gluten, but could be somewhat contaminated on the ouside. Most likely a simple solution is to rinse the mushrooms before...
