Hi Louie, Welcome to the forum! It's true, you probably are doing the gluten-free diet wrong. The gluten-free diet is a huge change for many people, and it can take sometime to learn it and how to avoid all the places gluten can hide in foods. Really I consider the first 6 months a beginners learning phase. Doing a major diet change that can...

2 years Celiac now Diabetic?
GFinDC replied to RoxPet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Roxpet, Sorry for the additional health issue popping up. More diet changes needed is what it sounds like. I had elevated blood glucose for a while years ago. I changed my diet and it went back to normal. So I think they consider that pre-diabetes. Which is common in many people in theory. But a diet change is what made a difference for me... -

Have you been tested for a stomach ulcer? That's what the pain sounds like to me. You can also get pain in your stomach from too much gas. Another possibility is GERD. -
Depression feelings when things are quieter?
GFinDC replied to LexieA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi LexieA, It's perfectly ok to grieve or feel down because of a diagnosis of celiac disease. Feelings are not obligated to perform on command. But, over time you can adjust to the new diet reality and even like it. Getting used to eating mostly whole foods and more natural foods is a good thing. There are lots of new food ideas to explore and learn... -
Celiac In The Military?

Hertzya, Congrats to you for sticking with your service in spite of celiac disease. That seems like it would be hard to do, And thanks for your service to our country! -
Hi Linda, The symptoms and pain different people experience with celiac disease vary widely. Some people have no symptoms at all. Pain symptoms can be in various areas. I wouldn't say your pain is not "correct" for celiac disease because of this. The first thing to do is get some blood tests done for celiac disease. Don't stop eating gluten...

Hi Mykalis, Welcome to the forum! I suggest getting your vitamin and mineral levels tested in case you have a deficiency in something. Then you can supplement that item or eat more foods that contain it. Another thing that comes to mind is your symptoms sound a little like an epilepsy attack? Maybe a test for epilepsy could show something...

Hi, You might want to go ahead and get him tested for celiac disease right away. The testing depends on finding antibodies to gliaden (a gluten protein) in the bloodstream. When you go off gluten the antibodies start to decline, so the testing can fail and show a negative even if he has celiac disease. It's better to get tested for celiac before...

Hi Ennis, My parents aren't around to answer questions anymore, but they told me that I put my oatmeal bowl upside down on my head and refused to eat it. I think that counts as rejecting a food. Other than that I was pretty skinny until I was in my mid-forties and then on a little weight. Even though I ate like a horse. I became lactose intolerant...

Approximately 30% of the USA population carry one of the genes for celiac disease. But only about 1% actually develop celiac disease, which can happen at any point in life., young, old or in-between. Having the genes does not mean you have celiac disease, it means your immune system may turn celiac at some point. There is also an increased risk of celiac...

Confused About Results
GFinDC replied to dalek100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi dalek100, I had low vitamin D for years. It is hard for our bodies to absorb nutrients when our guts are not working right. Plus vitamin D is not present in most foods. It is found in oily fish like sardines, mackeral, tuna and salmon. Also you can make it on your skin if you get out in the sun at the right time of day in summer and for long enough... -
Could This be Insidious Neuro-Celiac?
GFinDC replied to Xgth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi David, Welcome to the forum! Here is a study link looking at neurological effects associated with gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. There are many symptoms of celiac disease, and also a higher chance of schizophrenia and other conditions like T-1 diabetes. rhuematoid arthritis etc. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3641... -
Another thread from some years ago on the subject. Things may have changed since then.

Hi Michelle, The dermatologist can diagnose you for DH by taking a biopsy skin sample from adjacent to a lesion/blister. You shouldn't have to wait for or get an endoscopy. Only people with celiac disease get DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). So if you are diagnosed with DH you are diagnosed with celiac disease.

Advice Needed
GFinDC replied to Rachelp11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! You may have DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). DH is a skin rash only people with celiac disease get. They test for it by taking a small skin sample from next to a lesion and testing it for antibodies. If you have DH, you have celiac disease.- 4 replies

Hi LexieA, Welcome to the forum! You mentioned itchy skin. Itchy skin with lesions is a symptom of DH (dermatitis herpetiformis), another celiac condition. I haven't had problems with any coconut oil brand I've tried so far. I don't remember anyone posting about having reactions to coconut oil either. I tend to think most brands of coconut...

Do I have Celiac or DH??
GFinDC replied to sck's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mary Anne, They take the skin biopsy from adjacent to a "lesion". There are many possible symptoms of celiac disease. DH is the skin rash symptom of celiac disease. It can take a year for itching to go away from what I've read. Reducing iodine intake during symptoms may help reduce their duration. You have to be gluten-free for symptoms to... -
What to do after eating gluten
GFinDC replied to Casey1952's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Peppermint tea can help with a gassy stomach. Some people take activated charcoal tablets. There's also aspirin and wine to consider. Pepto can help (it has aspirin in it), and may soothe the the gut irritation. But it is not a long lasting affect, take it every couple hours. -
I've read that some people with Crohn's Disease use it and think it can help them. But I've never read about it being used for celiac disease.

There are also celiac support groups in many places. Sometimes they sponsor group meals for social interaction. And often they have ideas of safe places to eat. Check Facebook for you area. Or local hospitals or search the web for support groups. If you can't find a group then start one on Facebook yourself. That's easy to do.

Hi sddave, My suggestion is you stop eating cereal. Try eating eggs, or ham or something else instead. There are plenty of alternatives to cereal that can make a good breakfast. After 6 months of eating low carb, non- processed foods is a good time to experiment with things like cereal. If you are doing better by then that is.
