Hi Rebecca, A negative ttg test 15 years ago is out of date today. If your doc won't run a full celiac panel on you, try and find one who will. The ttg-IgA is just one of several antibody tests that should be done. Please find a doctor who know more about celiac disease. What you describe are pretty classic symptoms IMHO. If you search for celiac...

Hi Geoff, Welcome to the forum! Your bright objects on the brain-thing are often called UBO's or unidentified bright objects. If you want to read more about them, Type UBO in the search box upper right side of the screen and click the little magnifier. There are quite a few threads about UBO's and gluten ataxia on the forum. Matt is right...

Hi Mystic, Part of your issues may be the normal recovery process. The healing in our guts increases the villi surface area resulting in lots of new territory for bacteria to live. That can be good if you have all beneficial bacteria in your gut. But most of us don't, especially after having a digestive disease for a long time. So lots more bad...

Sick with what I think is the flu
GFinDC replied to RainWilliams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Rain, I had the flu this year and got by with aspirin, hot tea and fermented grape juice. Some people say echinecea can help and maybe coconut oil or oregano oil. I don't know though, I didn't try them myself. Here is a site with information on gluten-free drugs. http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/ -
Hi Liblue, Welcome to the forum! Now that you are gluten-free, your body can start healing. It will take a while for the antibodies that cause the damage to go down. It may take weeks or months. It depends a lot on how good you are at keeping gluten out of your diet. The Newbie 101 topic in the "Coping with" forum section has getting started...

Hi Joelle, It's sometimes difficult to be sure what foods are causing us reactions when we first start the gluten-free diet. Our digestive system is out of whack (not a scientific term) and needs time to heal and establish a healthy gut flora. Six months to a 18 months is a possible healing time frame but it can take longer depending on lots of variables...

Hi Anne, Welcome to the forum! You are catching your daughters illness very early, and that is a great advantage. Many people go a very long time before being diagnosed and the damage tends to build then. But you are helping her get to a beginning recovery stage very early. Plus children tend to heal faster than adults so that's plus too. The...

Merry Christmas all, and to all a good night!

Hi Vicki, You may have celaic. You could also have a low thyroid problem or diabetes. It would be a good idea to eliminate those possibilities. Another possibility is to get allergy testing done. Your symptoms do sound like celiac but since you don't want to eat gluten for testing, eliminating some other possible conditions might be a good idea. ...

Hi Rob, Welcome to the forum! DH is a condition that only people with celiac disease get. So if you have DH you have celiac disease. There is a separate test for DH where they take a skin biopsy from near a lesion. People with DH may not have positive blood tests at first. So a skin biopsy is a better test for them. The gut damage and blood...

Hi Olivia, Welcome to the forum! You might have celiac disease. The way to find out is to get tested for celiac disease. Don't stop eating gluten though. You need to keep eating gluten until all the testing is competed. The testing checks for antibodies to gliaden, and those antibodies can change if you stop eating gluten. So then the testing...

Hi FL, Welcome to the forum! Your daughter doesn't need to eat a lot of gluten every day for the antibody reaction to continue. So the first thing I would suggest is limiting the amount of gluten she eats to around a single slice of bread. Her doctor should be able to look up guidelines on this. Also, it is possible some of her symptoms are...

Question for those avoiding dairy (casein)?
GFinDC replied to Jmg's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi JMG, I've found a little dairy is too much dairy. It just doesn't work well for me. But there are alternatives like almond milk or coconut milk that are available now. But it's kinda like gluten. Once you start hating it you won't miss it anymore. And yep, they put it in a lot of foods too.- 41 replies

Need help about freezing vegetables
GFinDC replied to LexieA's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If you sign up for a Foodsaver account, they send out promotional pricing emails once in a while. Also, you can find Foodsaver type bag rolls on Amazon for far less than buying from the Foodsaver company. If you get the Mason jar attachment, you can use Mason jars to vacuum seal things that are fragile. For example, potato chips could be crushed by... -
Fish Oil (Nordic Naturals or any) does it help?
GFinDC replied to LexieA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, It is probably better to eat some fish containing the oils. Oily fish like salmon, mackeral, tuna, and sardines are good to eat because they contain natural vitamin D. Fish oil pills are not something I'd trust anymore. -
18 Years old and terrified
GFinDC replied to Joff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Joff, Welcome to the forum! You could have celiac disease, or something else. Nothing in your symptoms descriptions would rule out celiac disease. Celiac disease can cause abnormal liver function tests. The best thing to do is get tested for celiac disease. But to do that you need to keep eating gluten until all testing is done. The testing... -

GFinDC replied to Ejm526's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, the bumps on your face could be a symptom of dermatitis herpetiformis. DH is a rash that only people with celiac disease get/ People with DH sometimes don't pass show up on the usual blood antibody testing. But there is a skin biopsy test they can do instead. They take a small skin sample from next to a lesion and check it for IgA antibodies... -
celiac disease,cerebral palsy,finger tip numbness
GFinDC replied to Lisa Millett's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Lisa, Welcome to the forum! Your symptoms could have a relation to celiac disease. Celiac disease can cause malabsorption of nutrients, so you may be low on some vitamins your body needs to function well. Celiac can also cause a condition called gluten ataxia, which is damage to the brain that results in difficulty walking and controlling muscles...- 2 replies

A brain lesion not related to MS could be a gluten ataxia issue. Gluten ataxia is when the immune system attacks purkinje cells in the brain as a gluten response. These lesions are sometimes called UBO's which I think is short for unidentified bright object. There are threads on the forum about gluten ataxia and UBO's. Gluten ataxia can make it difficult...

Hi Arduaine, Welcome to the forum! Glutenings can cause different symptoms in people. When you are new to the gluten-free diet and early in the recovery, they may cause more intense symptoms than later. Most likely because your immune system is already in a heightened state of alert for gluten. So symptoms can last for a variable amount of time...
