Hopefully the 2nd GI will get the pathology and see a clear indication. Unfortunately though celiac disease is somewhat difficult to diagnose. There just isn't a foolproof way to get 100% accurate testing done right now. Even the best tests have a small chance of error. Having a positive on one antibody test is enough to show a problem IMHO. I hope you...

How should I go about testing?
GFinDC replied to amirenthsia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Right, If you have DH, you have celiac disease. Only people with celiac disease get DH. The DH rash is the result of IgA antibodies to gluten being deposited in the skin. They test for DH by taking a small biopsy sample of skin next to a DH lesion, not on it. They check it for the IgA antibodies. DH is often described as being very itchy. It also... -
Hi poorlypixie, You can "fail" all the standard celiac testing and still have celiac disease. The endoscopy can only reach about 5 feet into the body, just the beginning of the small intestine. So that leaves 20 or so feet still unexplored. And the blood tests are good but not perfect. Some people just don't make the grade on antibodies in the bloodstream...

What should I do?
GFinDC replied to PK-432's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You don't have to have a celiac diagnosis to eat gluten-free. -
You may be low on B vitamins. Celiac can cause malabsorption of nutrients like vitamins and minerals. So nerve damage can occur in that case. Your doctor can test your vitamin levels.

Hi, Welcome to the forum! This forum is a pretty good place to get help with celiac disease. You are still pretty early on in the gluten-free diet at 8 months. It sounds like you are starting to get improvements in your health though and that means you are making some progress. Recovery from celiac damage can take a year or more. It does take...

Hi, welcome to the forum! There is a sticky thread at the top of the :Coping with" section called newbie 101. It has advice on how to get started on the gluten-free diet and things to watch out for. You are correct that the damage can be bad if celiac is left untreated. But you may not realize all the symptoms you are having. People can get used...

@Posterboy Corn allergy is not pellagra. Pellagra is a vitamin B-3 deficiency, corn allergy is an immune system reaction. I think you are conflating the two but they are different things. If a person did have a corn allergy, they can get their vitamin B-3 from another source to prevent pellagra from developing. @Jill1120 , I doubt very much...

The link doesn't seem to work. -
It seems like people take dapsone for DH. Also, they avoid foods with iodine while having a flare.

Hi Shann, Welcome to the forum! Hmm, what I would tell myself? Well, be patient with your progress. Going on the gluten-free diet isn't an instant cure to all your health problems. It does help a lot, but it takes time to get better, possibly years. Gluten is not the only possible problem food. Besides wheat, rye and barley, oats can...

Desperate need of help
GFinDC replied to PK-432's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tayyaba, One thing that helps some people with joint pain is to stop eating nightshades vegetables. Soy can be a problem too. Nightshades are tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and potatoes. They contain an alkaline that our livers don't process well. So the alkaloids can build up and cause problems, like joint pain. So, it's something to try eliminating... -
Hi, Welcome to the forum! A mixed kitchen with kids and a hubby maybe difficult. The kids you can train but the hubby could be a lost cause! Actually, there are ways to live in a shared kitchen with gluten eaters and do ok. I do it every day. I have a separate dorm size refrigerator that I keep most of my food in. I also have a container...

Overwhelmed by celiac
GFinDC replied to CookiesandCream's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, You should not go gluten-free until all testing is done. When you go gluten-free the antibodies to gluten will start to decrease and the tests won't be accurate. The endoscopy is not a big deal IMHO. I had the endoscopy and a colonoscopy at the same time, my doctor called it a twofer. I was put to sleep and woke up and it was over. I did... -
Questions To Ask Dietician
GFinDC replied to JosieToo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lauren, (gfdonutprincess) Josie hasn't been on the forum since 2015. So you probably won't get a response from her. Also, she is not following this thread, so she won't get a notice that someone posted in it. You can tell that by looking at the small round circle near the top right of the thread title. There is small circle with a number that... -
Hi, The celiac disease testing only works if you have been consuming gluten. So if you stop eating gluten now you may never get an answer for sure. Some people can live without a firm diagnosis and stick to the gluten-free diet. Others want the official diagnosis. It's a personal decision. 4 stones sounds like a lot of weight. If your health...

Hi Dick, Right here is a great place to start. DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) is a skin condition that only people with celiac disease get. It usually presents in a symmetrical pattern of rash on both elbows, knees, buttocks, etc. DH can be extremely itchy. They test for DH by taking a small skin biopsy from next to a lesion, not on the lesion. They...

Hi PP, Notice how I shortened your user name there? :) I am not real familiar with the acid diet or the FODMAP diet. But IBS is short for "I be stumped" in doctor talk. Doctors don't really know what causes IBS yet so they may suggest things that are just guesses. Of course I am in the same boat as figuring some one's issues out over the internet...

Cheese brands
GFinDC replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd say Kraft since they have a policy to label any gluten ingredients. But I don't eat eat regular dairy cheese so I am not up on the brands. I eat Daiya cheese though and it is gluten-free and dairy free. -
This thread is years old so it is better to check the answer yourself. Manufacturers can change ingredients at any time and old information can be wrong. However, here is the current (Jun-2018) info from the Anadin site. Open Original Shared Link Do any of the Anadin products contain gluten? Open Original Shared Link (formerly Anadin LiquiFast...

Help! Don't know Where To Begin
GFinDC replied to AllergyFreeDiva's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Celiac testing requires you to be on a gluten diet for 8 weeks prior to the blood tests and 2 weeks prior to the endoscopy. -
It seems like I read that thyroid issues can cause heat sensitivity.

Is "no tearing" a symptom/aspect of celiac?
GFinDC replied to buddyspal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I don't know if it is or not. I do know I have had problems with dry eyes at times.
