positive blood test what next?
GFinDC replied to tomatan89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It seems like gi's like to interview patients before scheduling the actual endoscopy procedure. But in my own case after the initial "consult" the actual endoscopy was set up not long after. YMMV in merry old England. It sucks to have to wait that long though. Sometimes people ask to be put on a waiting list for cancellations and get in sooner. -

Re-tested (results attached)
GFinDC replied to linx1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, The tests should have a range of possible values with them. The interpretation of the tests depends on knowing those ranges. Can you post them? It looks like you only had some of the celiac tests. I don't see deamidated IgG listed? -
Please help.
GFinDC replied to TheWeatherMan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Do you know what tests they did for celiac disease? The tests are usually called something like DGP-IgA DGP-IgG EMA ttg-IgA total serum IgA It might be helpful if you could post the tests and their ranges, Different labs have different ranges for normal, positive, etc. Your symptoms could certainly fit celiac... -
Fatigue - Athlete
GFinDC replied to Jmun5's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Here's an article about anemia that might help. She may have either or both iron and B-12 deficiency anemia. Another nutrient deficiency that can cause fatigue is selenium. It can take months to recover from iron deficiency because the new blood cells are made slowly. Another possible and maybe more common cause of fatigue is poor absorption... -
Hi, Welcome to the forum! You may be surprised to hear that eating foods like rice and veggies and meats is actually a very good way to start the gluten-free diet. I don't know if you are old enough to cook your own food yet, but maybe you can give your mom some other meal ideas. We generally suggest people not eat all the expensive processed...

Dx'd & Getting Re-Tested For Celiac
GFinDC commented on sillyker0nian's blog entry in sillyker0nian's Blog
Hi, You could try taking some vitamin C with your vitamin D and also some vitamin K2. Also, eating mackeral, sardines, tuna and salmon can give you some Vitamin D. Check out the vitamin D council for lots of info. https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ -
Hi soph, You may still have celiac disease. Celiac can be hard to diagnose. Most people with celiac disease are still undiagnosed even today. If you do have NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitivity) you are part of a much bigger group of people who have a reaction to gluten foods but don't show up on the standard celiac tests. Possibly 5% of people...

I vote for option 4. Contact some local dentist and ask if they will do the tooth repair free. They might be glad to do it if you talk to a TV or radio show and get them to mention the dentist .

Restaurant Owners Don't Believe Gluten Allergy/Celiac is Real
GFinDC replied to Skeeball's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The FDA has issued rules on the labeling of foods as gluten-free. The standard is less than 20 PPM of gluten. The FDA set that level because their studies showed most people with celiac do not react to foods with that level of gluten. Some do react though. http://www.bendbulletin.com/localstate/6257556-151/lawsuit-bend-caterers-gluten-free-meal-caused... -
Biopsy today
GFinDC replied to Mckenziemorgan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, If the DH test is positive then you have celiac disease. There is no need for a gastro to do an endoscopy in that case. People with celiac have to avoid wheat, rye and barley. It's best to avoid dairy and oats for a few months also. The other thing that helps people recover from DH is avoiding iodine. So that can eliminate some additional... -
GLIADIN, DEAMINATED, IGG Elevated
GFinDC replied to creativemuse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, You are right the gliaden IgG is an antibody test for celiac disease. You are positive on the test so that means your immune system is reacting to the presence of gluten in your diet. The endoscopy is fairly simple and easy. They put an thin tube down the throat and take a look around. While they are touring the neighborhood they take 4 to 6... -
Hi Johnny, IMHO, having silent celiac is tougher in some ways. You don't have symptoms to tell you if you if consumed gluten, so you have to learn to be careful anyway. You are right that silent celiac can still cause health issues. In the case of villi damage, the impact is that we can't absorb nutrients well. Nutrients like vitamins and minerals...

Yep, about 12 weeks eating gluten for the blood antibody testing. -
6 year old requires biopsy
GFinDC replied to Mbajwa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, The endoscopy is not a big problem. They usually put the person out during the endoscopy. They put a 5 foot long, thin tube down the throat and a little way into the small intestine. The tube (endoscope) can take tiny bits of the lining of the small intestine for the biopsy. He shouldn't feel anything except he may have a slightly sore throat... -
Regaining a normal life
GFinDC replied to Dunnie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi dunnie, Celiac damage can impair our gut's ability to absorb nutrients. Nice things like vitamins, minerals, fats and sugars may not get absorbed well. Our bodies tend to work better when it gets the nutrients it needs. Without those neato things our bodies cells can't work well and heal themselves. We may be tired since our cells are starving... -

Low red blood cell count-- is it celiac disease related?
GFinDC replied to gary006's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Gary, If you are low on iron it can take months to build up more red blood cells and hemaglobin. I think they say iron is better absorbed by taking some vitamin C with it also. They sometimes say to eat spinach if you have low iron. But it is probably more helpful to use a cast iron cooking skillet. Open Original Shared Link Researchers... -
Red Ears And Cheeks
GFinDC replied to Dixiebell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, It could be an allergy to wheat. Or it could be the beginning stages of DH (dermatitis herpetiformis), a condition associated with celiac disease. That's just a guess though. You should probably get an allergy test right away. Allergies are nothing to ignore, as they can suddenly start getting much worse. Sometimes they become life-threatening... -

Agree, but not having gluten doesn't mean it can't cause a reaction. Some of us have developed reactions to non-gluten foods like eggs, tomatoes, corn, nightshades etc. OP never claimed ketchup has gluten, just that it caused her daughter pain.

Test results.. help
GFinDC replied to P.d's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi P.d, Some people never show up on the blood tests. The blood testing is good but not perfect. So you may still have celiac disease but not show it in your bloodstream yet. There is another condition called NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitivity) that can also cause symptoms when eating gluten. But there are no tests for it yet. Actually, NCGS is... -
GLuten Free and Vegan Meals for 1 year old?
GFinDC replied to AviAndMe1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A babie's body need's protein, minerals, vitamins and energy to grow and thrive. A growing body needs these things in much higher percentages than an adult. So an adult diet is not appropriate for an infant. You as an adult may do wonderfully on a totally vegan diet but your infant needs lots of quality protein and fats to build muscle and bone and brain... -
Hi Shad, There is a medical test for lactose intolerance. Seems like there is one other food intolerance test but I forget what it is now. But basically, the best test is our own bodies' response. People do elimination diets to determine what foods cause them problems. Myself I have done several elimination diets over the years, as food intolerances...
