  1. It's not fun at first EG1707, but after a variable amount of time you get used to it. I used to be pretty paranoid about gluten cross contamination, and I am still careful of it, but it isn't a big worrisome thing. I take precautions and do fine most of the time. Not being the exact same as everybody else isn't all bad. Most of your friends can probably...
  2. Hi Egs, Yes, it sucks that so many doctors are ignorant of ceilac disease testing protocols. We have seen many members post on the forum the same issues, that their doctor told them to try the gluten-free diet before doing the testing. Pretty incompetent advice from them IMHO. But it explains why upwards of 80% of celiacs are walking around undiagnosed...
  3. Hi lmj623 Maybe try Brianna's line of dressings? I am not sure if the ranch dressing is dairy free. But the poppy seed and honey mustard are both dairy free. They make 12 gluten free dressings of the 15 total they do (Oct-2016). http://www.briannas.com/gluten-free/
  4. Hi Egs1707, You asked about other food intolerance reactions. I can only tell you about mine. Others may have totally different reactions. Actually, when I first went gluten-free, it seemed like I reacted to everything I ate. But I now think that was because my gut was still healing and I had some nutrient deficiencies to overcome. In time, my reactions...
  5. Hi Egs1707, My initial symptoms after first going gluten-free lasted about 6 weeks, and then began to stabilize some. Not saying they all went a way, but did become more tolerable. But I did seem to start reacting to very small amounts of gluten also, even minor cross contamination. My darn toaster got me for instance. Several other things got me...
  6. That's good. Celestial Seasonings make a good one also. Tea up!
  7. Hi Ironictruth, I haven't tried it. I think i prefer peppermint tea myself from the sound of this stuff. Nothing terrible about it I suppose, but peppermint tea at least tastes good and warms me up in the winter.
  8. It's a big change going gluten-free EGS1707. Not just what you are eating is changing, but what all the gut bacteria in your gi system eat is changing. That change can cause some upset by itself, as the gut bacteria balance needs to change and reset to hopefully a new normal. I think it's best to avoid most carbs and sugar during that process. But some...
  9. Hi Egs1707, You are probably already aware of nutrient deficiencies that vegetarians need to watch out for. Here is an article that might help anyway. I don't agree with all of it especially the idea that eggs and dairy can provide 't all the vitamin D we need. Many people in the USA are vitamin D deficient already, even people who don't eat vegetarian...
  10. Hi egs1707, Welcome to the forum! Irene is right, you should not be gluten-free until all testing is completed. The celiac disease tests are checking for immune system reactions and damage, and when you go gluten-free that starts to decline. So the tests may not show the true immune reaction that is going on or the normal damage. They may not...
  11. Hi Diane, One condition that causes excessive thyroid hormone production is called Grave's Disease. I suggest you ask for an ultrasound of your thyroid to check for nodules that might be causing problems. They may find a nodule and want to do a fine needle aspiration (FNA). That just a tiny needle they use to take a biopsy sample. Shouldn't hurt...
  12. Hi Olivia, If the package label says they have wheat in them that's good enough reason not to eat them, regardless of what other people say about it. Companies don't always use the same ingredients in every country, so the ones you are looking at could be different than ones made in the USA. They could even be different in the USA if they were made...
  13. I hope you do well on your new diet cristiana, whatever it turns out to be. Another site with lots of paleo diet info is Marks Daily Apple. He also lists cooking oils that are good for you vs bad for you to eat. Try searching his site for topics of interest. I am not too interested in the paleo diet backstory as such. But it seems like a good diet for...
  14. Hi cristiana, The paleo diet and the ketogenic diet would probably be helpful to read up on. Snack on protein, not sugar and carbs. You should have protein with every meal. Protein reduces the meal total glycemic index and lengthens the time before you feel hungry again. Sugar and carbs shorten the time to feeling hungry again. Or you could...
  15. Hi Lisa, If I read right, you are dealing with: some kind of arthritis ( a spot of it ) possibly dermatitis herpetiformis (celiac associated skin rash) Raynauds Syndrome perimenopause, possibly. celiac disease I can see where the symptoms for these different ailments could be a little tough to separate for the doctor. If...
  16. Just posting a little Wiki info for the benefit of the less informed on angioedema, like me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angioedema Angioedema, also known as angiooedema, Quincke's edema, and angioneurotic edema, is the rapid swelling (edema) of the dermis, subcutaneous tissue,[1]mucosa and submucosal tissues. It is very similar to urticaria,...
  17. I am sorry to hear that Bartfull. But there is definitely a better place to be than here. I said a prayer for you in Jesus name. I hope you enjoy your time remaining here. It's been great having you around the forum helping us out.
  18. I react to grapes also, but not like i react to gluten. I get more of an allergic type reaction. One idea about other food intolerances we develop is that the prolonged gut irritation can somehow cause the body to develop reactions to other foods besides gluten. That could be why some people on the forum have many additional food intolerances listed in...
  19. Hi, So it seems he has been gluten-free since 25-Sep-14. That's less than a month right? It's not unusual IMHO for symptoms to continue for months. The immune system has to wind down from being on constant alert mode. When I was new to the gluten-free diet I used to vomit sometimes too. It could be his stomach is gassy and the pressure is making...
  20. Pink flamingoes are scary! Good one Crayon!
  21. Not real funny I guess. Article is mostly about allergic responses. But problem applies to fad dieters (oops, celiacs) also. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/allergies/hidden-danger-undeclared-allergens-lurk-many-foods-n124626
  22. He only scarred me cuz I knew u cent him Crayon! I think most of these quotes came from CA... Ack-thpftt, dats; gud Leesur! And it's not gluten in the link Crayon! Altho there was some lack toast in there somewhere. I hear that's goin around tho.
  23. Number 30 is obvious. Everyone knows that twins take longer right? http://themetapicture.com/dumb-people-on-the-internet/ Bad Bear Crayon, bad Bear!
  24. Hi SW, Since you are having pain in your hips related to the popping it makes sense to see a doctor about it. A rheumatologist is a specialist in issues related to joints and might be able to help. http://www.rheumatology.org/Practice/Clinical/Patients/What_is_a_Rheumatologist_/ You also said that certain foods seem to affect the joint popping...
