    ARCHIVED Weight loss

Hello Theri, Welcome to the forum! It can take longer than 2 months to recover from celiac disease damage. Actually, a year or more is common. If you are trying to avoid diabetes, you should avoid carbs and sugar. They are your enemy. Instead eat meats, nuts, veggies, and eggs. Concentrate on protein and fats instead of carbs. You need high...
  2. Spellfixer gets me all the time on celiac com CL. So I figured you meant "be eating", not "beaming". Beaming into space is what we should do to the gluten!
  3. Hi Alunke, Welcome to the forum! The other option if you can''t beam the gluten like on Star Trek, is you can eat the gluten for the same amount of time. You don't need to eat a lot of gluten though, a slice of bread a day is fine. We aren't all as advanced as Cycling Lady yet.
  4. I have the square copper pan but not the lid or other accessories. You don't sterilize gluten because it is not a living thing. What's needed is to clean it off good. I haven't used mine for anything gluten yet, and don't plan to. But I think it should be cleanable just fine. I've used other metal pots and pans that had gluten in them and washing with...
  5. Hi, and welcome to the forum! Ok, I'd call blood in the stool an issue. It's not there for no reason! Some people with celiac disease have no obvious GI system symptoms. That is called silent celiac. But they still have damage to their guts. That may be what your husband has now. But bleeding is an indication damage is going on. He could get...
  6. Hi Pegleg, I think the AIP diet they mentioned is the Auto-immune Protocol diet.
  7. You can also get almond milk, rice milk etc. So Delicious brand makes a coconut ice cream too.
  8. Hi DD, Welcome to the forum! Your rash could be DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). DH is a skin rash that people with celiac disease sometimes get. If I was you I'd cancel the gastro appointment and get a dermatologist appointment instead. DH is diagnosed by taking a small biopsy sample of skin next to but not not on a lesion. Only people with celiac...
  9. Thanks for the update Rob!
  10. Thanks CL. Makes me wonder how the USA flours compare. All those illegal immigrants heading over the border to Canada might have to rethink their move!
  11. Yes, the blood antibodies (celiac panel) and the endoscopy are other tests. The biopsy for DH has to be taken from skin next to a lesion, not on the lesion. That seems odd but it is true. If you are on steroids to control your immune reactions then none of the testing is going to work. There is a sub-forum section on DH that might have more information...
  12. Welcome Mermaid's Mom! It very well could be celiac disease causing her issues. Two weeks off gluten will affect the testing, but there is no way to know for sure how much. The 2nd part of a formal diagnosis is an endoscopy to check for damage to the gut lining (villi). She needs to be on gluten for both of those tests. Generally, the endoscopy takes...
  13. Hi Patty S, Welcome to the forum! Have you been tested for DH (dermatitis herpetiformis)? DH is the skin rash associated with celiac disease.
  14. Welcome to the forum Flowerfairy! You said you recently went gluten-free? Did you know that it can take a year or more to recover from celiac damage? Lots of people think celiac is like eating a bad meal or a temporary stomach bug, but it's not. Celiac is an auto-immune disease and it doesn't go away. The immune reaction should taper off in time...
  15. Welcome to the forum Katz!
  16. Hi EnnisTX, I saw an article about cigarette smoking being helpful for people with ulcerative colitis not long ago. Supposedly helps people get into remission or something. I am not sure if it is worth considering or if the nicotine patches might do the same thing? Here's a forum post of UC peeps talking about it and vaping. Lots of things to consider...
  17. Hi Bonnie, This isn't a product that allows a celiac to eat gluten. I think you can find the same enzyme in any DPP-4 product, which are available at vitamin retailers. The only use for these enzymes with celiac, is to maybe help a little with symptoms after accidental glutening or cross contamination. Even then, they won't stop an immune reaction...
  18. Hi Jesicaaaa, I use Coconut Secret coconut aminos myself. It has no soy which is why I use it. I don't know how it compares to Kikkomans. San-J is another brand of gluten free soy sauce though. Welcome to the forum!
  19. Hi Scott, Yes, the advanced search is what I am using. I've tried on 2 different computers also. Maybe I haven't been treating my computers right lately or something. If it's just me having the problem, then I guess its nothing to bother about.
  20. It seems like another way to look at the positive DGP and negative biopsy is that DGP could be an early indicator of celiac disease. Perhaps before much intestinal damage shows up.
  21. Hi Rebecca, Another thing to try is going caffeine free. Caffeine can make people tired. You might also want to check your vitamin pills to make sure they have some selenium in them. Selenium is needed for some hormones produced by the body. Vitamin D deficiency can have a big affect also. So if you get that under control things may improve...
  22. Hi Bizorra, Welcome to the forum! If he wants to get tested he needs to eat gluten for 2 to 4 weeks before the endoscopy. However, it can be very unpleasant for person with celiac disease to go off gluten for months and then start back eating it for testing. Not having symptoms now doesn't mean he won't have symptoms later. I'd wait and talk...
  23. Hi Sara, Yes, changing your diet may affect your SIBO test results. The SIBO may go away! That wouldn't be so bad, right? It does take time to heal the gut after stopping gluten. And each glutening you experience during that time is a set back to renewed immune reaction. My symptoms used to last 6 weeks after a glutening. If you've had ...
  24. OK, seems like the search is not working for me now. Using the magnifier and clicking to go into advanced search, the search button doesn't seem to do anything. Using Chrome on Windows 10. The black "search content" button on bottom right of the screen doesn't show as clickable with the little hand icon.
  25. Well that's good your K is ok. I doubt they tested you for K-2 though. See my big doubty face? K has several different versions, like 7 or 9 flavors of vitamin K. So you were probably tested for K-1, not K-2. Anyhow, if you are getting eggs and cheese you are probably ok with K-2 from that. It seems like there were some old timey pain treatments...
