ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
GFinDC replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi James, The blood pressure problem I was talking about is intermittent, occasional and sudden low blood pressure. It may not be what you have, just a thought. My blood pressure was fine usually, but sometimes would drop very suddenly. It stopped doing that after a I quit eating soy. Food intolerances are not easy to test for doctors. They... -
Hi Tyler, Welcome to the forum! Please stick around, read and ask questions, we like to help! I was in the Air Force, but didn't find out I had celiac disease until later. When I was in, (decades ago) there was no way to expect allergy safe diets that I know. It doesn't seem like the military is a safe place for celiacs to me. So I made...

ARCHIVED Newbie looking for advice
GFinDC replied to MommyBunny's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi MommyBunny, Yes, if you have DH, then you have celiac disease. There is subsection of the forum for DH, where you can find helpful information on it. IMHO you should tell your relatives about your celiac disease as it is genetically tied in. Some of them may carry the genes for celiac disease also. The genes don't mean you will definitely... -
Hi gigdeb, I've had cataract surgery in both eyes. I have one suggestion that might help you. When your doctor prepares your new lenses, ask them to make one for distance vision and make one for close up vision. That way you can see both close up and far away without glasses. If I had it to do over I would do that myself. As it is I can now see...

ARCHIVED mastic gum
GFinDC replied to ironictruth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I took mastic gum years ago for a stomach ulcer. I think I got it from Vitacost, probably their brand name product. They do a good job of labeling things gluten-free. For my ulcer it didn't help all that much. Maybe a small improvement temporarily. -
ARCHIVED Allergic to Gluten but not Wheat?
GFinDC replied to VickiF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Vicki, Emma has it right. I suggest you find a real doctor and get standard celiac disease testing done. The usual screening test is the ttg IgA. That test doesn't catch all people though so the full celiac disease panel is a better choice. You should not go gluten-free before all testing complete though. The testing depends on the antibodies... -
Hi Ming, You could be getting glutened through cross contamination. It takes very little gluten to set off an immune system reaction. It could be you are low (deficient) on certain vitamins and minerals that our bodies need also. Were you tested for that? I don't get migraines but people have reported them on the forum before. There is also...

ARCHIVED How long does it take to feel better after I stop eating gluten?
GFinDC replied to swim2hawaii's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My thoughts, you should start eating gluten again right now. Going off gluten before testing is a good way to end up wasting time and money on testing that is pointless. The testing for celiac disease is first off blood antibodies to gliaden. If you aren't eating gluten the tests are not accurate and won't show your actual immune system reaction. You... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food Delivery Service?
GFinDC replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cook your own food? A crockpot is so easy most people should be able to do it. -
ARCHIVED Imamimi
GFinDC replied to imamimi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello imamimi, I've seen quite a few people post about hair loss. You might get more responses in the Coping with section instead of the cooking tips section. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? If not the pre-diagnosis section might be better. Welcome to the forum imamimi! -
ARCHIVED Severity of Celiac Joint Pain
GFinDC replied to emma6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Emma, Years ago I had joint pain in my knees and shoulders. It went away after I stopped eating nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant). Nightshades have an alkaloid in them that many people can't tolerate. It may take a month or so for the pain to subside after stopping nightshades. The alkaloids have to be processed by your liver... -
ARCHIVED Weak Positive DGP IgG test
GFinDC replied to Sissi123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sissi, Your doctor screwed up. They never should have you go off gluten until all testing is done. I don't know of anything else that can make DGP IgG positive besides celiac disease. We always tell people not to go gluten-free until all testing is done. If you are starting to feel better, that is more evidence that gluten is a problem for you... -
ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
GFinDC replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jm34, I am just guessing, but it you may have low blood pressure. It might be good to have it checked. For eating better, try not to eat anything in a box, or any baked flour type things, like cakes or cookies etc.. Also, try not to eat anything with more than 3 ingredients on the label. Simple foods are easier to understand their effects... -
ARCHIVED Newly diagnosed IBS for 12 years
GFinDC replied to JonBNF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jon, The vertigo symptoms could be a result of a drop in blood pressure. I had fainting spells at one point from blood pressure falling. I had a brain check and all that checked out reasonably working. It was related to diet as it turned out. Blood pressure would drop and I'd get dizzy or pass out. I thin they call it a vaso something or other... -
Hi Llkj, If you want to know for sure of you have celiac disease, you'll need to go back on gluten for the testing. It is better to do that now than later IMHO, Hopefully your symptoms won't be so debilitating that you can't perform your tasks. As Zodi said, removing dairy from your diet may help your symptoms. Also, you don't need to eat a lot of...

Hi JacDevo, Jssmith has it right. You should eliminate all dairy from your diet for a few months at least. 6 months would be better. Celiac disease damages the villi that line the small intestine. Those villi make an enzyme that digests dairy sugar (lactose). So people tend to lose the ability to digest lactose. After some months and a strictly...

ARCHIVED twitching
GFinDC replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't use any balsamic vinegar. True balsamic is aged in wooden barrels. And I don't trust that the makers have always used fresh new barrels that weren't used for something else in the past. They like to have a lot of flavor components in the vinegar after all. So, I personally don't trust any balsamic vinegar that is true, barrel aged vinegar. I... -

Hi Depressed, There's some really smart people with DH here, and they will be able to give you good advice. I think one thing they do is avoid iodine while having a flare. There is also another drug they take that helps some. Doxycycline (SP) I think, Personally I don't think any celiac should eat out for the first 6 months, DH or not. It can...

ARCHIVED Mystery symptoms
GFinDC replied to Ladyp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi LadyP, Your symptoms do sound like the might be celiac related. If you can eat a 1/2 slice of bread daily for 3 months you can get the blood antibody tests. Or you can get an endoscopy after 2 weeks. If you can't manage the gluten challenge, then you may have to assume you are celiac and just go gluten-free. But please read the Newbie 10... -
ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
GFinDC replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi James, You are the best person to figure out what foods you need to avoid. You had positive blood tests for celiac disease, and that doesn't happen for no reason. The antibodies are supposed to decline after you go gluten-free, so it's not a surprise you didn't test positive for celiac at those times. It is possible to have a problem with the... -

GFinDC replied to artsunshine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are not bothering us yet artsunshine! We are here because we like to help people. And some of us have been through something at least somewhat similar. We may not have all the answers, but we may have some! -
I have brought fruit and nuts on outings before. Or just ordered side dishes of veggies. That is usually safe, although not always. We have a texas Roadhouse in my area that has never made me sick. Just ask them if they have gluten-free options, like steak! There are other restaurants that do gluten-free menus also. PF Changs is a Chinese chain that...

ARCHIVED diagnosed, no symptoms.. shocked!!!!!
GFinDC replied to artsunshine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi artsunshine, I am not sure what cca is? Actually, I don't have a clue! Regarding your muscles spasms, have you had your blood sugar checked? Just a good thing to do as a basic test. You could try some magnesium for your muscles spasms, it might help. You could also try taking some B-12 for nerve health. B-12 is one of those vitamins our...
