  1. Might be diverticulitis.
  2. Hi Kitty, There are celiac support groups in some areas that might be able to refer you to a good celiac doctor. Some hospitals even have celiac centers. It could help to find a knowledgeable doctor. You deserve an answer and I hope you find one soon. There has to be a cause for your digestive symptoms all these years and celiac disease is definitely...
  3. Hi Spencer, I was taking 10,000 IU of D3 weekly until I was retested recently and found to have 30.5 on the Vitamin D result. So now I am taking 5000 IU daily. I also try to eat mackeral, sardines, salmon and tuna more often these days as they have some vitamin D in them. I can't say how much you need to recover your level. I know some people take...
  4. Hi Kitty, It is strange you had a positive from one test in the past but now had a negative in the antibody test. Have you been eating gluten all this time? Even before the recent testing? If you had gone off gluten before the testing that could explain the results.
  5. Hi pdm1981, I use Brianna's honey mustard and poppyseed dressing.. Those are the only 2 I use.
  6. Hi Ariel, Yes, there is actually another thread on the forum where canker sores are being talked about right now. Welcome to the forum! If you do a search on the forum from the search box above, you can find lots of threads about canker sores. Here is a search link to save you a little time. Open Original Shared Link
  7. Hi Jake, You may not be part of the 1%, but you could be part of the 2%. Probably more fun to be part of the 1% though. Open Original Shared Link How do you get a doctor to perform a biopsy when the blood test is negative? Guidelines may or may not be followed; it all depends on the physician’s judgment in each individual case. Most d...
  8. Sometimes turkeys and hams are labeled as having gluten in them, but it is really in a separate gravy / glaze packet that can removed and tossed. If it works for you Dee, that is fine. Some supposedly naturally gluten-free flours/grains are cross contaminated with gluten during shipping or processing. So it is possible to have problems with naturally...
  9. Some more info: *************************************************************** Open Original Shared Link How much gluten should be consumed prior to being screened for celiac disease? It’s best to continue a normal, gluten-containing diet before being screened and diagnosed. If a gluten-free diet has been followed for more than a few w...
  10. Hi Jon, You got a positive on the antibodies, so that's pretty definitive. Doctors like to get the biopsy to confirm actual gut damage is happening because of the antibodies. That's not really a perfect thing to decide on because in some people the antibodies attack the skin instead, or the brain, or the liver, or the joints. So not having gut damage...
  11. Hi Ryaculese, No, according to the Mayo site it is a diagnostic test specifically for celiac disease. So you may be bonafide celiac disease patient now. ************************************************************************* http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/83660 Reference Values ...
  12. Hi Ryaculese, Welcome to the forum! I am curious if the doctors tested your thyroid. The fast pulse and sudden high blood pressure could be thyroid related. The thyroid could even cause digestive symptoms. There is an autoimmune condition called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis that celiacs sometimes get. It is an AI attack on the thyroid and can cause...
  13. Like cyclinglady says Jake, the complete celiac panel may be in order. The ttg IgA is only one of several antibody tests they can do. Some of us just don't pass the common screening test (cyclinglady) but still have positives on another antibody test. We aren't all the same and our immune systems vary.
  14. Hi again artsunshine, Not having symptoms doesn't mean your body is not being damaged. Some people have silent celiac disease and have no digestive symptoms. But you still have to be careful to avoid all gluten in your diet. The damage in celiac disease is from the immune system and also malabsorption of nutrients. The malabsorption is probably what...
  15. Hi jerry, It is easy for gluten to sneak into our diets at the beginning. You may need to check your vitamins, teas, coffee, etc. Also any shared foods like butter or peanut butter, jam etc are a problem. Kissing can be a problem if the other person hasn't brushed their teeth since eating gluten. It really takes only a very small amount of gluten...
  16. Good to see we have our own in house methxpert to help us out with these things Scott! Maybe Jefferson has been doing a little too much testing of the goods? He suggests in the article that gluten could make meth much "word" for celiacs, I don't know what that means but it sounds odd. Despite Jeffersons' assurances about meth being gluten-free...
  17. Hi Jake, Welcome to the forum! There are some things about your symptoms that might indicate celiac disease. Digestive problems are a classic celiac symptom, although some people have no digestive symptoms. That confuses some doctors who think if you don't have digestive symptoms you can't have celiac disease. Weight loss or failure to gain...
  18. Hi Ironic, I had gut twitching or spasms for 6 weeks or so after going gluten-free. But that was below the belly button area. So it sounds like your twitching is higher up. Maybe in the esophagus area? You could be suffering from acid reflux perhaps? Here is a link with a drawing of the GI system. Maybe it will help you identify the hurty spot...
  19. Hi, I eat Mission brand corn tortillas. Also UDI's millet chia bread. I never hd a problem with either of them. I use California olive oil. California olive oil is tested to be sure it is not adulterated with other oils like soy or whatever is cheap. I got some coconut oil from Vitacost and it is fine. I've rarely had problems with...
  20. Hi artsunshine, We were all new at one tine. You probably don't need to worry about cancer from celiac damage. That is very rare. I don't know if you had an endoscopy yet? Usually the doctor will want an endoscopy after the blood tests are positive. You should keep eating gluten until all the celiac testing is completed. There is a higher...
  21. Hi Posterboy, Nutrient deficiencies are a fairly common problem for untreated celiacs. This U of Chicago web site link lists some of the deficiencies that people may have. I think people who are diagnosed with celiac disease should always be tested for nutrient deficiencies. It just makes sense to do that IMHO. Open Original Shared Link What...
  22. Hi Chaitali, I do think you should be tested for celiac disease. The testing is 2 parts. First the doctor takes a blood sample for lab analysis. They look for immune system antibodies to gliaden, a protein in wheat. If the antibodies are positive, they schedule an endoscopy to take biopsy samples of the small intestine lining. Those biopsy samples...
  23. Hi Recoded, It looks like they can test your genes for the hemochromatosis risk. That seems like it would be worth doing to find out for sure. This Mayo clinic link suggests that in women the hemochromatosis issues don't usually become a problem until after menopause. So that's something to check with your sister and mother if their symptoms started...
  24. Hi Stevensrd, I used to do something similar, only eating once a day and never eating lunch. That made it easier to get through the work day. Things are much better for me now though. Have you been tested for celiac disease? The testing is usually a blood test first for antibodies, and then an endoscopy later. You have to keep eating gluten...
  25. It seems I can add a cover photo in this new forum software, but haven't done it yet.  Ooops!
