  1. It's true, Kitchen Bouquet is NOT gluten-free. Gravy Master, however, is and it's the same thing as KB (or, I should say, it does the same thing...) Bridget
  2. I give the chips a whirl in the food processor just until there are not big "shards" of chip...but putting them in a bag and using a rolling pin would work too. And then I just dip the meatball in egg, then roll it round in the chip crumbs, then on to the baking sheet they go! Enjoy! Bridget
  3. Isn't that the most exciting thing ever!? I remember the first month my son was gluten-free he gained 5 lbs and it was the BEST thing ever. Keep up the good work, you are obviously doing great!! Bridget
  4. Hi Vanessa, My son was diagnosed in June at age 2 1/2 and the biopsy is to "conclude" that it is indeed Celiac. They will look at the damage (taking multiple samples from the small intestine bc the damage isn't always "all over") and make sure it's consistent with celiac disease. The endoscopy is no big deal, in fact it was much easier than the blood draw...
  5. Jen, I am not really sure what to say. I read your previous posts, and honestly I think I'd push the celiac disease/food issues more. If the intestine looked "ragged and red" then there's something wrong there. A biopsy is not always an accurate "test" for celiac disease bc they can miss the damage, even with multiple "snips". Do you know what blood tests...
  6. Tinkyada here too. It doesn't fall apart (some of the other brands do) and it tastes very "normal". A lot of people swear by Biaglut, but it's more expensive than the Tinkyada so I haven't even tried it yet for fear I might like it better! :-) Bridget
  7. You can check out the Celiac forum at www.delphiforums.com I think you look under health & wellness or something like that, and Celiac is one of the first in the list. If all else fails, search for Celiac. It's a GREAT list. I still check this one, obviously, but I do Delphi daily...several times a day, actually. ;-) B
  8. I think that you will probably see this more and more, or things being labeled as gluten-free less and less. That statement was purely a CYA statement their lawyers suggested they put on to cover themselves from being sued should someone have a reaction from cross-contamination. Sigh...such is life in a sue-happy society.... Bridget
  9. Try the Gluten-Free Trading Company....they have an AMAZING selection of things. Bridget
  10. I should have read your whole post before writing my last message. As for the "numbers" higher or lower, it's like being pregnant: you either have Celiac or you don't. There is no degree of celiacness ;-) And I'm not even so sure if the higher the number the more damage that has been done bc my sons TTG test came back at 250 (with anything under 30 being...
  11. Just so you know, by going gluten-free before the Biopsy the biopsy will probably come back negative for Celiac. You must be consuming gluten for several weeks prior to the biopsy in order for it to be a "true" measure. So, if she's going gluten-free now it's not even worth doing it. I would talk to your doctor, tell them what you are doing, and see if there...
  12. Vanilla....it's bc of the alcohol they use to make the vanilla. Sometimes, although I haven't found one yet, they use a gluten-based alcohol. But McCormick's is gluten-free, and that's an easy one to find. Ice Cream....Ben&Jerry's will list all ingredients, Breyers as well. Honestly, I've done a lot of ice cream searching and I have not found one yet...
  13. It's very possible that it's not Celiac Disease, but an intolerance or even an allergy that is causing your daughters issues. Which would not test positive for Celiac, as Celiac is neither of those things. So, gluten-free may still be the answer. Bridget
  14. Well, I can tell you that the TTG level is anything under 30 is considered normal...and hers is 35, so definitely not normal. Sounds like celiac disease to me, honestly. As for the endoscopy, my son had one and they knocked him out totally (he was 2 1/2 at the time) so I see no reason why they couldn't do that for her as well. And he was GREAT when he woke...
  15. Fortunately, or unfortunately I guess depending on how you look at it, this sounds EXACTLY like the start of celiac disease. Have her tested now, before she does start to emaciate and have a distended belly, etc... I didn't have any warning with my son until he was literally wasting away and at 2 1/2 weighed 23 lbs!!! Now, 6 months later gluten-free, he...
  16. Does your child have medically diagnosed Celiac? If so, you need to have your doctor write the appropriate paperwork and submit it to your school to undergo the 504 process. They MUST comply with this, as it's a federal protection for people with issues that preclude them from participating in such things and forces schools to make the adjustments that will...
  17. Um, I have a hypothyroid and there's no reason I can't have peanut butter. In fact, I eat it quite a bit and am THRIVING. My thyroid is back to it's normal size, I feel great, etc.... Bridget
  18. Most of the chicken dishes I've seen at OG have been dredged in flour to give the chicken "brown" appearance to them. Maybe it wasn't included in the "secret recipe" and that's why no one can "quite" get it as "good" as OG? The OG has recipes on its web page, so maybe you could go look there and see. It's hard to answer your question not knowing exactly...
  19. McDonald's is wonderful. I have never, ever even gotten so much as a strange look when ordering a Hamburger Happy Meal without a bun. My son thinks he's in heaven, and I feel so safe. It's the only restaurant we've ventured to yet, and I have 7 months of this under my belt! Bridget
  20. I have found that for wheat bread, the closest thing is the Manna From Anna mix. It's AMAZING. For white bread, I make the Tapioca Bread in Bette Hagman's Living Well Without Wheat: The Gluten-Free Gourmet Revised Edition. AGain, amazing. Very much like "real" bread. I order foods from, mainly, The Gluten-Free Trading Company bc they have such a HUGE...
  21. Hi Mark, I make the Tapioca Bread recipe in Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet: Living Well Without Wheat revised edition. This is very much like homemade white bread. The Manna From Anna mix is great, and tastes just like wheat bread. But it's my 3 year old who has celiac disease, not me, and this BH Tapioca Bread recipe is easy and he likes it. Bridget
  22. You should read the thread in this forum from last fall by ConcernedChef....it was conducted by a student at the New England Culinary Institute and he had some great advice. But read the whole thread bc he posts several times. Bridget
  23. Obviously you know the restaurant business is a tricky one...most open and close quickly. I would not make your primary publicity be that it's a gluten-free restaurant, word of mouth in the Celiac community will take care of that. I would focus, like any good restaurant would, on the quality of your foods, atmosphere, etc... and let a sub-note be that it...
  24. Christi, You may want to also consider having only gluten-free "finger foods" for a while, until both children can understand. If your older daughter is dropping food, and your younger is getting it, it would just be easier to be totally gluten-free for the time being. Isn't this FUNN???? My son is 3, so I hear you.... Bridget
  25. I have to agree with everyone here...I think it's the playdoh. Or at least that's a start. Argh. What are they doing with Playdoh in French class?? Weird... Anyway, she's probably getting it even if she isn't using teh playdoh, just from the residue on the desk tops. Does she share drinks with friends? Chew pens or pencils? Use lotion? Eat her lunch where...
