  1. Two words : Cross Contamination If we can not have oats because of cc, how in the world can we have wheat and barley products sans gluten? Until I see actual certified gluten free wheat and barley grass, I would NEVER consider consuming it. Stick with Nori if you want an excellent green, natural supplement!
  2. You have to go with specifically gluten-free oats (not McCann's, they openly admit that there might be cc issues). We will pay the higher price for a good gluten-free cookie, don't worry, lol! Anyway, I would put a an extra warning that they are gluten-free,however, if the consumer has not tried a specific oat trial, then perhaps they would rather enjoy...
  3. Think I posted in wrong topic, group, but I'm trying again! I was at al small, organic local food shop buying gifts today. I picked up a marinade and read the label, and there was soy sauce listed in the ingredients as being "100% organic and GMO free". I asked them if the soy sauce had wheat, and after some investigation it was revealed that it did have...
  4. Did your kitchen go gluten-free, right away, or did you have a mixed kitchen for a while? We eliminated all things gluten immed. and replaced utensils/ pans/ appliances as we needed it. Freecycle and Craig's list is an easy option for getting rid of your stuff. Did your kitchen go gluten-free because you were cross contaminated? We moved any gluten...
  5. Slicer toaster, replace it or get one for yourself. If you live with a gluten eater, keep the toaster for them. Our gluten toaster is in the laundry room on the counter with the gluten bread, disposable paper plates, etc. and my hubby/visitors use that sink for gluten crumbs, etc. The gluten-free toaster oven is our kitchen. Gluten items are not to touch...
  6. He gave me this diagnosed based on the length of my pinky finger. He said that if your pinky finger falls below the last joint, under your nail, on your ring finger, that that means you have gluten intolerance. Mine is above the first joint. Celiac confirmed with bloodwork, endo, diet.
  7. Have you had an edoscopy with biopsies taken that showed flattened villi? That really may be all that you need for a diagnosis. Check the path report from your endoscopy and see what it says (if you had one). That may be all that they need to secure a diagnosis. I don't know what to tell you about deliberately glutening yourself. Wild horses could not make...
  8. It took me almost a year to stop having "glutened" dreams regularly. In your dreams you are just spitting things out, in mine, I would stick my finger down my throat and make myself vomit but the gagging would wake me up as well (which I welcomed, btw). The vomiting was disturbing because I also have gastroparesis (delayed gastric dumping) and all my life...
  9. I would keep a food and symptom diary. Are you lactose free still or just added dairy back in your diet? Any new foods at all? If no pattern emerges from your food diary, then please give your GI a call. It may be something totally unrelated to your celiac. Colitis came to mind instantly. Hope you feel better soon, and remember, Imodium is your friend...
  10. Yes! I went from a 28 day cycle to a 24 day cycle and I certainly am having less "Big D" right before hand, and cramping before has gotten a LOT better! It was sort of unpredictable around for a year and then settled into the "new cycle" of every 24 days. Wish it had gone the other way and went to a 32 day cycle instead, lol! I am so glad that someone had...
  11. Personally, I would never trust a product with wheat, barley or rye grasses. Why? for the same reason I do not trust other products that SHOULD be gluten-free, but are NOT (think oats) .... cross contamination. (Ah, the bane of every good "theory"). I live in farm country, I know how these things are grown and harvested, I see the tractors and harvesters every...
  12. Just wanted to post to save them a ton on inquiries! I e-mailed them to confirm their sugar source, here is the reply: "We alternate the sugars between a cane sugar source and a beet sugar source in order to ensure a constant supply. There
  13. Making your own soup is so incredibly easy. You need to learn how to make soup the easy way. Get a crock pot. Put all soup ingredients in it on low. Cook while you are out all day, ready when you get home. If you want something more than basic broth soups (you can buy precut meats, if you eat meat), and even prepared veggies! Then plan on making a batch...
  14. Thank you so much for the warning! I just e-mailed the company to say, "way to go!" for using wheat! Anyway, it is so easy to make your own jams. I mean, seriously simple. And if the pecting fails, you now have syrup, lol! So usually I make my own. Strawberries are in right now where I live and I have a good dozen jars made this afternoon. You should look...
  15. BE CAREFUL! I questioned their gluten-free status of their B complex Wegmans brands vitamins several weeks ago because they had BARLEY GRASS listed as an ingredient (like Barley Grass can EVER be considered gluten-free), and now they have some "vegetable source" listed. I mean what the heck? ASK WHAT THE "VEGETABLE SOURCE" is!!! Their gluten-free markings...
  16. Yes, that symptom is what had them checking my thyroid for years. ( I have a rant that goes with that comment, but I'll stick to the subject for now, lol). Seriously, you should not be tempting yourself like that, and now you have glutened your pans as well! What were you thinking? Next time you want to make something for a friend, think fresh fruit salad...
  17. NEW CASEIN FREE and gluten-free Bakery! Organic and free trade to boot, so totally guiltless and indulgent and safe! Just had some of the brownies and they are to die for! Wonder if we can wrangle a cook book out of them at some point? You can order online! Go here for the website, hope this doesn't count as inappropriate advertising! But man are these...
  18. Hi, it can take months to feel better sometimes. You may have had an accidental cross contam and ingested gluten. I found that after I went gluten-free, my reaction to gluten was way worse than when I was eating it regularly! I would really suggest that you drop milk products except yogurt if you generally tolerate it, go on a low fat diet, try to eat mostly...
  19. Ursa, you are so great. I always learn something with each of your postings. I wish I could just hug you! sorry asker, back to your question, lol! I also had a ton of trouble when I first started gluten-free with fruits and veggies. Try doing the elimination diet. For your fruit, start with bananas and go from there. It will set your starting my new diet...
  20. Yes, you should have all first degree relatives tested and they should continue to be re-tested should they have any symptoms, ever. Also, if anyone else comes up positive, then make sure they contact all members of that side of the family that may be at risk. Thanks for being so careful! And when you have kids one day, treat them as though they are gluten...
  21. English/Welch my mom's side,German, French, Native American heritage my pops side.
  22. Hi, it is time to get the bloodwork if you have not already and get yourself off of gluten for good. My bro is gluten sensitive and unstoppable migrains, body aches, and excessive sleeping are his "big3" symptoms of gluten exposure. I would highly suggest that you go get the bloodwork and work with your Dr. to get to the bottom of this. I know how frustrating...
  23. Oh my god, the wait is the worst part of the whole thing... I can't believe they are making you wait to find out... just a life changing diagnosis, that's all.... You are not being high maintainence, and having an official diagnosis IS a relief. Add that to feeling like no doctor should ever ignore you again (and God help them if they do!lol!)... so I understand...
  24. Usually, 10 days off gluten in a normal adult with celiac is not enough to heal or totally clear the autoimmune responce, so eating enough this weekend plus whatever else you have done should still have you in the positive with bloodwork, as long as you are not IGA deficient. I would not even do a gluten challenge personally, but it is your decision and everyone...
