  1. I went and picked up a copy of the Gluten panel to make sure, since I dont trust doctors - clearly negative. Now, I had been entirely off wheat (but not entirely off gluten) for 6 weeks already when the blood was taken, but the doctor didnt seem to think it would matter. I DID react mildly to gluten (and casien) on the A.L.C.A.T IgA test. (although...
  2. I was having trouble finding other grains, but I made quiniao for dinner the other day and it was great. I also picked up som corn-quinia pasta. I havent made it to my tiny health food store yet - i'm kinda holding my breath until whole foods opens .. . they've started construction!!
  3. Realize that the greiving, fear and guilt are all normal feelings. Its hard to go through it, but I'm sure you'll come out of it and get a plan together to follow. You're reality has changed in a hard way, but soon you'll readjust. We all make mistakes and move forward - just be glad you already knew about Celiac before your daughter was dx'd, so you have...
  4. It took a few months after I had my hubby snipped to stop worrying all the time - what time of the month is it, is it ok? Is my period coming on time? is it a day late? Cuz using natural family planning was a constant state of worry and work, its true . . .but snipped is so nice!!
  5. My mother has a metal allergy and had unbearable cramps the entire time her iud was in - that was 30 years ago probably, but you do have to still be aware of what you're putting in your body. I agree its easy to get lazy with taking your temp, but i've even had dr's tell me, the diaphram doesnt work when its in the drawer!
  6. I dont have that book, but a decent number of celiacs cannot tolerate tapioca, which is in almost every flour mix. the last time i ingested tapioca (from frozen rice dream), i was in pain for over a week. You should be able to sub any starch for it, but I think the tapioca is responsible for the best textured breads
  7. I wasnt going to reply, until i saw ur avatar with that little baby on another thread - so cute! Congrads!
  8. Some tips for the stomach - many people cannot digest milk or milk products in the beginning, because the damage from the celiac affects this - so you might want to also take out milk, cheese, etc for the first few months until you heal. Some people are also bothered by soy, or by the tapioca flour in several of the gluten-free packaged products, so you...
  9. So, first of all I'm reacting to rice, so thats out. I made it - it was ok. My son, who's not used to this yet, would only eat it on top of his hot dog, which he liked (wierd, i know). But he wouldnt eat it plain. I ate it . . i froze the leftovers . . its was ok. A little slimy- i thinik mostly from the soy cheese. The corn pasta is kinda bumpy. The...
  10. I can almost top the $400 story. When I was going through a divorce (and living in a bad neighborhood) my mother thought it would cheer me up if she gave me a ring of hers I used to like as a kid - gold with a real peridot, a big one. She also gave me her original wedding ring, since she wore my dad's on a necklace and had a replacement one w diamonds...
  11. I know that when i was younger, for a while I thought the butterfat bothered me more than the milk, since ice cream or cream sauces would send me crying to the bathroom but milk and cheese not so much . . . probably just gas. But i'm not convinced its really that the butterfat was the problem itself, as much as that fat is hard to digest, so the combination...
  12. Heather I do appreciate the explanation. Part of what I want to use the aL cat test for, and i'm also getting scratch test in 2 weeks, is to know what foods to start with as i elminate things. So, once i'm feeling good and all those foods are out, i'll start testing them one at a time. I dont want to throw them all back in since they might be ok, since...

    ARCHIVED I Want To Cry

In my teens and 20s i used to say I had constipated D . . . it felt like it had to come out for ever, but it wouldnt and wouldnt and wouldnt, and then when it finally did ... pure liquid . . .yuck! I know that I was glutened last sunday, and today I finally dont feel depressed (Oh, i just love that recurring thought that I'm a flawed person who made 3...
  14. My sister is chronically ill w cf, fm, and more and more neurological symptoms. Accupuncture was too painful for her, as was chiropractic, but she says she gets amazing results from reiki, craniosacral and something about sinus draining? it was a face massage that seems to get fluids moving?
  15. I used earth balance natural - i think the regular earth balance had some dairy in it? I use that everywhere i used to use butter or margerine. I dont like the taste of soy milk, and i've been using plain rice milk (full circle, which is like a generic whole foods brand) and almond milk. I like to cook with the rice milk - it seemed to make almost no...
  16. When I was making kids lunches in the morning, i got in the habit of eating piece or two of cold cuts as part of breakfast - the protien helps keep off that "i'm starving' thing at lunch time. Boars head meats are all gluten free. Breakfast really is important!! Good luck getting out of your marriage and on with your life
  17. Oh, I'm so glad you posted that! I was really baffled, because a weird bump showed up on my nipple, and i'd been plagued by these when i nursing 2 years ago but hadnt seemed them since, and was just kinda nervous to see it coming back, and then a rash between my breasts which hadnt bothered me in years, at least not in the winter, showed up . ..so this could...
  18. I'm kinda new to all this, but this is my understanding. An allergy is an IgE response, and its usually things like hives, trouble breathing, shock, trips to emergency room. Gluten intolerance is an IgG response, which is a more delayed response usually. Celiac disease is a gluten intolerance which has gone so far as to kill off the hair-like structures...
  19. Oh the joys of motherhood . .. if only they would listen to you like we do!! Hang in there! It reminds me of things i've seen posted by parents of very difficult kids, kids with sensory problems or autism or just really stubborn, high needs kids - all their freinds and relatives give 'advice' about how they should punish them more, or just look at them...
  20. You are traveling IN the US, right? There are some websites which list restaraunts which have gluten-free options - these are the first 2 I found: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Chipotles isnt on these lists, but also has gluten free options, lots of them - its kinda mexican style fast food, but really good - like subway for mexicant...
  21. Gall stones usually attack right after dinner, and hurt like nothing else
  22. I was on antibiotics for years for acne, and thats when the yeast started. i never put 2 and 2 together until this week. Also, i went thru a terribly stressful time 1-2 years ago and i'm just starting to recover. I think the stress kicked up all the mild health problems i was having. I have always had an immense sweet tooth - i would keep candy at my...
  23. My ob-gyn gave me the diflucan - it was a one-pill treatment and she gave me 12 refills, telling me to take 1 every month if i needed to ( i said the yeast always comes back at ovulation ). When my a.l.c.a.t igg tests came back positive for candida among other things, i've tried to cut back on the sugar (no more 2-3 candy canes per day and several handfuls...
  24. Ok, a few yeast questions - i've had chronic vaginal yeast infections all my adult life, with a break after my first pregnancy. I had nystatin a few times, with good relief. More recently, a doctor gave me diflucan - i woke up in the middle of the night with awful cramping and D so bad I was clenching fingernails in to the tp roll trying not to scream,...
  25. If you want a slightly easier way than stuffing a dozen or so cupcakes, i often make a tube pan cake, cut off the top 1/4, scoop out a trough, fill with filling and put the top back on. THen you can frost the top. It looks like a giant donut and tastes great!
