ARCHIVED Gluten Accident At School On Friday
Smunkeemom replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 4 year old got an accidental cookie a few months back, she felt even worse about it than I did (if that's possible) her teacher was in tears she felt so bad, she just forgot since Kathryn hadn't been on the diet very long at that point, she remembered to give Annika a gluten free alternative but forgot Kathryn. Kathryn took one bite and then said... -

ARCHIVED Immodium
Smunkeemom replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wouldn't give immodium to a child with a stomache bug, because my pedi said that if they have something not cool in thier body that D is the way it gets out, he said celiac D, is okay for immodium but food poisoning or stomache virus you need to let the D run it's course. Keep her hydrated and wait it out is my advice, if she is really underweight and... -
ARCHIVED Freezer Recipies?
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am lazy and use boil in the bag rice, it's in a bag with holes so when you lift it out ot the pan it drains itself. I can make it in the microwave too. -
ARCHIVED Freezer Recipies?
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
wow. TCA, I had never thought of browning my ground beef then freezing it, that is a great idea (I think, I will have to see how it works in real life) most of my headache in the evenings is cooking the meat for the meal, if I could cook all my meat on grocery day that would take a lot of stress out of dinner time. I am going shopping tomorrow, and I will... -
ARCHIVED Freezer Recipies?
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
that reminds me, I was reading the creation story to my 4 year old once and she said "if God made a man then why did he make a woman?" and I said "because the man needed a help mate, someone to hang out with, someone to love" and she said "well, at the very least men need a lot of help" LOL -

I would ignore people. They tell me all the time "you look like you are losing weight", I am not. They think it's a compliment, well, if it's not true it's a lie. They worry about my 2 year old being to heavy (she gets too much starch on that gluten free diet) and my 4 year old being too thin (she isn't getting enough food on that gluten free diet) It can...

pizza? how do you make pizza? -
I have been thinking lately about making some gluten free stuff for my girls and freezing it, so that they can have some good food in a hurry if they need it. I think it would be cheaper than buying the microwave dinners, but I don't know what types of gluten free stuff freezes well. I don't want to cook all of it, freeze it and then thaw it to find it's...

ARCHIVED Totally Frustrated With Doctors!
Smunkeemom replied to zappalizzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know, I am still trying to find another doctor (GI) for my girls, I found out that my daughter who was tested in May of 2004 was actually positive, but the doctor didn't tell me because "the gluten free diet is so difficult and since she was not having any symptoms I thought it would be best if we waited" It's not like my other daughter wasn't already... -
I have been working on a webpage for parents of children with celiac disease, is it against the rules to post a link in my signature? I don't know if it counts as advertising or not, it's a reference page not like a business, but I don't want to get into trouble.

ARCHIVED List Of Safe Foods To Share With Daycare?
Smunkeemom replied to lamood's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
cross contamination scares the crap out of me. (sorry for the language, but it's true) My girls have thier own pasta pan, pasta spoon, bread pan, mixing bowls, ect. We are going to get them thier own toaster soon. I am scared that crumbs, or like microscopic gluten will get stuck inside the plastic spoons, and even bleach won't help because you can't kill... -
ARCHIVED List Of Safe Foods To Share With Daycare?
Smunkeemom replied to lamood's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I personally wouldn't trust anyone else to feed my kid. I pack all thier food and they can only eat whats in the bag, at church it's different because they have made the whole nursery area gluten free. I still have to check up on the 4 year old, but the basic rule is "Do not feed Joey's kids ANYTHING" that way I am always the ones to feed them. -
ARCHIVED Time Frame For Gluten Response?
Smunkeemom replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
my girls get cranky almost immediatly after being "glutened" then the rashes show up about 6 hours later and the diarhea the next day, it's weird, but predictable. -

ARCHIVED New Here And Need Advice!
Smunkeemom replied to kempy99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My first peice of advice to anyone who is new to the diet is to print out the list of forbidden ingredients (tgere is a link in my sig.) and then take it everywhere, I got those plastic page protectors for mine and put it in a 3 ring binder. 2 Read the ingredients on EVERYTHING, gluten is hiding everywhere, you need to check everything until you get used... -
ARCHIVED Boyfriend With Celiac(need Some Input)
Smunkeemom replied to spyderbabe's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would try not to eat his favorite foods in front of him, but some things he just needs to be able to ignore. Like I can eat sandwiches and pizza in front of my kids, or mac and cheese when they have gluten-free mac and cheese, but not fish sticks, it's all about compromise, it doesn't bother them for me to eat bread sticks in front of them, but cake does... -
My mom goes in for the scope biopsy tomorrow, I really hope they can find out what's going on with her, I am not really hoping for Celiac, but I hope that's all it is, at least we know what to do about that. I hope that she does okay. I want to be supportive, but she is hoping they don't find anything, I really hope they find something so we can fix it. ...

ARCHIVED Dealing With Diarrhea And Accidents
Smunkeemom replied to johalex's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I haven't yet since my kids are homeschooled, and I don't know if it would be a good idea or not, but they make immodium for kids, maybe he could take a dose before school if he is having a "D-day" (that's what we call them in our family, no disrespect to the armed forces) -
My friend is running the VBS at my church this summer, and in an effort to make everyone more comfortable she is trying to do snacks everyday that everyone can have. My girls are gluten free and there are 4 other children who are lactose free. I figured this would be the best place to come for some ideas. I really think that it's very nice of...

ARCHIVED Milk Question
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks. We have been having "gluten issues" and I was going through thier entire diet, and I didn't think it was the milk, but the more analytical I get the more stuff I worry about. I suppose the search continues....... does anyone know if there could be gluten in stickers?
