  1. Cool id love to live in Hawaii or FL ... but wales is ok ... though we get a lot of rain
  2. CC is cross contamination.. an example would be if you cut normal bread with a knife then used the same knife (which now has gluten on it), without washing it on a loaf of gluten free.. that gluten free bread would now have gluten on/in it
  3. dont put her back on gluten just to prove what you know. A mothers instinct is rarely wrong. If your DH cant stand putting her on the diet without tests go with entrolab. She would need to be on gluten for about 6 months with the other tests .. way too long in my opinion.. and you still may not get a positive result. IMO dietry response should be enough in...
  4. celiac disease does run in families so id say that if you respond to the diet and they are getting sick you should try them on a gluten free diet as well to see if they respond alternatively you could get tested (just bloods would be enough really) and if you have it then chances are they will
  5. there are only false negatives not false positives.. if the tests are inconclusive then id say get rid of the gluten.. dont take any chances as far as i know there are tests but the thing to bear in mind is tests can be negative.. so you could try getting tested then go on a trial diet. remeber if you do want to get tested dont take the food...
  6. i myself cant tolerate said wheat startch, but on persription we can get weat products that contain no gluten at all.. i think juvela is probably the best for that.. if you google it then you can become a member
  7. welome to the forum.. as the others have said this is life long, there is no cure the thing about coeliac is that we are in controll of our health, only you can stop yourself eating gluten and therefore you can stop yourself getting sick. healing takes time and there is the possibility of deficiencies and other intolerances to conted with (lactose...
  8. i have coeliac but i can have wheat as long as the gluten has been removed, and it can work the other way, it is possible to be allergic to wheat but not have a gluten intolerance/allergy also it is possible to have a gluten intolerance and not have coeliac
  9. welcome to the forum. for the biopsy to be acurate you need to be eating gluten regularly, as for your symptoms not clearing up it does take time and theres the possibility of other intolerances. Its good that your doctor is taking the time to test you and is listening to what your saying. Good luck
  10. it might be useful to print some information off just incase the new doctor is completely clueless. It may be a good idea to see how manyof your symptoms coinside with the ones your mother had. Dont get agitated if your doctor doesnt know that much about coeliac or if they think that it may not be coeliac. If they refuse to take notice then put your foot...
  11. hey i recently found out (from a physio therapist) that i have very little muscle in and around my shoulder jointsand that the muscle that is there is very weak. When i mentioned my shoulder pain to my GI he didnt seem to think it could be related because he hadnt had a case where it had effected the joints recently (if ever). However i have read...
  12. If you want/need an official diagnosis then you need to get back on gluten straight away and then get tested, but be aware that even if the blood tests are high then the biopsy may be clear (false negative). If that happens your doctor may completely disregard coeliac even though you have got it. (If your lucky they will go with the bloods and the symptoms...
  13. your absolutely right, your son needs to get tested, his symptoms are classic for coeliac disease. if you need help persuading him get him to talk to some people on here and if he is young then he can join www.celiacteens.com, where teens and young adults can get advice and support from people their own age.
  14. Im nikky, im 15 and i was diagnosed on the 4 December 2007 at the age of 14 (my birthday is on the 26 of december). I live in Wales UK and am happy to help -what were you thinking when you were diagnosed? How on earth am i going to explain this to my freinds if they dont even understand what anemia is? -How did you react when you heard? I was...
  15. ah whats life without colour have fun
  16. Hey yep its me
  17. yea its appauling the things its in.. and the things we cant have because it may contain traces of gluten luckily there are good alternitives out there
  18. welcome to the site im sure you'll find lots of help and support here. also you can go to www.celiacteens.com a dedicated site for teens with celiac disease
  19. eeek i made a mistake last night, i ate some chocolate with out reading the label (i thought my mom had read it), upon reading it i noticed it had barley malt extract... scince half an hour after having the chocolate i have felt sick, had a headache, stomach ache and high temperature...... this is unusual because i never really had reactions before....
  20. urgh.. i dont think ive ever reacted this bad, ive had a headache, nausea, stomach cramps and high temp scince about half an hour after eating the offending chocolate .. (whereas id hardly ever get any symptoms before) ... and the reaction was quicker. Hhhm maybe im becoming more sensitive
  21. my family all still eat "normal" food, (the advice we were given was that anyone on the gluten-free diet should be closely monitiored, so i should be the only one not eating gluten), and it is cost effective for us because of the amount my family relies on bread, rolls and things like that (they all work), so it makes sense to get a loaf of bread for me ...
  22. I acctually made a mistake tonight ... waiting to see what symptoms i get if any.. the only reason i know i made a mistake is i re-read the wrapper and found that the bar of chocolate id just eaten contained barely malt extract..eeek ..i'll let you know what happens
  23. yea lots of doctors either diagnose you with the first thing they think of or are reluctant to diagnose you with anything unless they are 100% sure. My GI wanted to be 100% certain (given that im young and he didnt want to make me suffer unneccessarily) but my body had other ideas, hopefully your GI will be as insightful as mine and go with the blood tests...
  24. My biopsy was negative, but my GI confirm the diagnosis anyway.. even though he would of been happier if the biopsy was positive (hes thinking about challenging it in a few months). So IMO, you should skip the biopsy, she doesnt need to be put through that , either it would be negative and the doc would say you are wrong(and shes suffered for nothing) or...
  25. hhm it seems really difficult to find a doctor who knows what they are doing in america ... i feel truely sorry for you .. for anyone in the UK looking for a good peads GI i can reccomend the Royal Gwent Hospital, a lot of their staff seem pretty clued in ... although ive been told that the adult department arent as good and thinks that celiac disease belongs...
