  1. It took me 10 months for my appetite to get back to normal. The answer my nd gave me was that when you eat gluten you actually press your body so much, the whole system is trying to kill the "intruder", and your metabolism is not working well...Now your metabolism is working back to normal, but your villy is not healed so you can't absorb any of the ingredients...
  2. I''ve been gluten-free for 10 months and now I have that tingling only if I get glutened. It is only in the toes. I was really worried but doc said it is usual, especially if you also have nightmares when glutened. Just be patient Meline
  3. Welcome!! Well I don't know if shaking is typical. I never had it/heard it. Maybe someone else can help you in this. But the general feeling of not feeling well is typical. Still this doesn't mean you are celiac. Have you checked your blood sugar? Have you done any blood tests? Is it very difficult for you to have a blood test for celiac and a biopsy?...
  4. each one has different symptoms.....the most common ones are fatigue, a general feeling of not feeling well and D. But also nausea and headaches. But that "not feeling well" thing is very common......I guess we all have it. Hope you start feeling better soon Meline
  5. Welcome Wendy!! good luck with your results. Let us know how things are going for you.
  6. exactly the same thing....and the worse part is that people think you are just lazy......I even didn't want to have a shower cause I felt like I would collapse.
  7. Bloating, nausea, eczema, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, extremely severe acne, all gone (sometimes they come back, but I' ve had my accidents..........) Meline
  8. I must admit that it is a big deal having the official diagnosis. The gluten free diet is very expensive, it is hard for me too....So all I can do is wish you good luck!!!
  9. I didn't do it Gerri....I just couldn't. Many of us didn't. I had eczema every day of my gluten diet. So it is up to you. But if you are not 100% sure that you are responding to the diet maybe you should try it. Just keep in mind that after going gluten free and then starting eating gluten again your symptoms may come back worse. Let us know how you are...
  10. there is a connection between hashimoto's, graves and celiac. Hashimoto's and Graves disease are autoimmune thyroid diseases that are very often seen in celiacs.
  11. Never
  12. One of the members said that caramel color is safe in USA. It depends on were it is produced. In my country for example it is not safe. One week is too short for all the symptoms to go away. As for the trembling in your hands, I didn't know that this was a celiac symptom... Meline
  13. gyros is supposed to be gluten free. At least in Greece, were we can see how they are preparing it in the special fast foods were we can get it. You can ask for gyro without a bread wrap. But I don't know what is going on in other countries. The only problem I can think of, is if they mix it with flours just to make it heavier and sell more (this goes for...
  14. I agree with hez.....for me 1 day for the headaches and the ekzema and 3 weeks to get my energy back. Lactose and casein also cause that trouble you are describing. Listen to hez. Meline
  15. I knew it was someone...I didnt' remember who..... You are a good example of how people that are misdiagnosed for so many years, finally manage to cope with celiac. Meline
  16. Please don' t panic. Since your ds had a scope and it is clear of cancer, and you have already started a gluten-free diet (even with some accidents at the beginning) I guess he will not have any problem (of course I am not a doctor). But just keep in mind that most of us were misdiagnosed for YEARS. I found out when I was 29, there is someone here who was...
  17. It is extremely common for celiacs to be lactose intolerant (and casein) at least until the villy is healed. It is usually a sign that everything is back to normal when they can consume lactose again. I am one of them, and I think that about 90% in this forum are like me. Maybe you could visit a specified doctor and check other food intolerances (check...
  18. Hello and welcome to the forum. I suggest you don't follow a general rule (like the one your doc said about cereals) and just learn to read the labels ALL THE TIME. In the home page of celiac.com there is a post about all the safe and non safe ingredients. I really think that this is the step 1 for a newbie. Watch out for artificial flavoring, it...
  19. Hello Me too I had the corners of my mouth cracking. Awful feeling. I hope you soon find the answer to your symptoms. Don't' go gluten free before your tests, cause they may be false. Meline
  20. hello I have IBS and that gives me the symptoms you are describing, especially the heart burn feeling. Doc said I should cook all my vegetables and fruits, and that was the solution to my problem. I even cook bananas (they are already soft I mean, but even they trigger my Ibs if I eat them raw) Meline
  21. Hello and welcome to the forum. Me too I hope you get an official diagnosis. It does sound strange, but we all know that getting a diagnosis is many times a relief. Generally speaking, a gluten-free diet has only benefits. Even if you are totally healthy, you have nothing to lose. In alison's case, I mean diabetes, a gluten-free diet may be helpful....
  22. thank you all for your replies. I definately have a lot of reading right now....The positive thing is that I talked to my doctor and he is SO against RAI. He didn't even want to talk about it. He told me not to worry at all, we will do our best and there is no reason right now to even think about RAI or surgery. He wants to run some more tests before he decides...
  23. I am so sorry fedora. you are in my prayers. I hope your beautiful country will stop suffering and there will be no human victims.
  24. ?????really??? that is encouraging. I always thought that celiac is the most funny thing that happened to me. I am not beeing ironic. I mean it. I was such a relief to finally get rid of all that pain just by excluding gluten. I'll keep in mind what you said about the medicines. I think I can trust my doctor. I will not try to deal with it alone / with...
