I so fully agree with that statement, nini........... Hugs! Karen

I can't speak for anyone else of course, but complaining about you (collectively speaking) is not what I was doing, I was disappointed that other views were not welcomed here. I am also disappointed that, given the chance to actually DO something about it, most of the people on this thread have chosen to ignore my invitation to join a brainstorming session...

I agree that the title of this thread does mislead alot of people into thinking that all opinions are welcome, when in fact, they are not. I think I have figured out why this thread is such a bone of contention. In my two years here, I think this is the first thread that I have seen that has not invited all to participate. It is also the first thread...

ARCHIVED How Do We Get The Word Out To The Doctors?
Canadian Karen replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
I know, thank God that has changed, and mammograms are now recognized as a valid screening method to catch it early. That's why I am hoping that eventually, with enough pressure on the insurance industry, THEY will be the ones demanding doctors screen for celiac disease in the same manner. I am the first one the admit I have absolutely no idea how the... -

It's not worth it, celiac3270. Just let the venting exhaust itself so we can bury this negativity. It really does bring the board down...... Hugs. Karen

My point of view from the pharmaceutical standpoint is that they would not want to help in any way to get Celiac Disease diagnosed, nor would it be in their best interest to sink money into any type of research for a "magic pill" to deglutenize us or to allow us to eat gluten. The money the pharmaceutical companies would make on a pill for us to take would... -

You might be celiac if: Your neighbourhood drug store knows NEVER to run out of stock on Preparation H Anti-Itch Cream. The consequences would not be pretty........ One of the few things that would make me "LOSE IT"!!!!!!! Hugs. Karen -

Don't in any way, shape or form jeopardize your own insurance, that's wayyyyy too important. Send it anonymously, or put my name on it, you can e-mail me and I will give you the info to put on the letter. Hugs! Karen -

You might be celiac if: 1) You burn out more than 2 motors in one year in your bathroom vent fan. 2) Your toilet is sooo important to you that you become your own plumber when it breaks down (I just replaced the flapper tank ball a few weeks ago!) Karen -

If we can get their attention (the insurance industry), make them see how much money is wasted by not screening for celiac disease with a blood test, the absolute clincher to hammer it home how beneficial for them it would be THE TREATMENT!!!! DIET!!! NO MEDICATIONS!!!! There isn't even a pill to take every day for them to have to worry about paying... -

With so many newbies recently, I thought I would resurrect an old and now "infamous" thread started by broncobux. This thread shows how, eventually, you will be able to deal with this disease with a bit of humour. Happy reading! Hugs. Karen -

I plan on contacting the Toronto Chapter regarding their 25th Anniversary and the Canadian Celiac Association regarding their National Conference to ask them to extend invitations to insurance company representatives. I will also send them copies of my letter. I am hoping this Conference will be a catalyst for our plan and will start to put things in motion... -

The lightbulb went off when I was reading Timber4est's post. I think she deserves the credit! I am looking for my Print Artist Gold that has the software to make letterhead. I am going to make some letterhead for the letter to be sent out on. I am trying to think of a catchy letterhead phrase. Like: Celiac Disease: Discovering the Poison or ... -

After re-reading the letter (told ya it's a draft!!), I think it is very important to mention diabetes as a symptom, since that is a very mainstream complication that has been getting lots of attention lately..... Any thoughts? Karen -

I plan on sending this letter out to as many insurance companies and Canadian Celiac Disease Association brances as possible...... Even if it is just a little, tiny, nudge towards better diagnosis, it's better than doing nothing...... Karen -

But if the doctors are "owned" by the insurance companies, and the insurance companies order them to start testing for this more, then they would have no choice..... I really think the insurance company angle is the best way to tackle this. If we can get them to understand how much of their money is "flushed down the toilet" (pardon the pun) due to this... -

I wonder what would happen if we all collectively sent the below to not only our own insurance companies, but any others in our area also. This is just a draft of what I have in mind: It could be done. If we really want to make a difference, why don't we take advantage of the insurance industry's vast resources. If we can open their eyes and...
