  1. My first impression upon reading the paragraph was that she wanted to know how much longer did we have to put up with that gluten crap in our food in general (as in, get rid of the gluten in mainstream food).... I could be wrong, but that was my interpretation....... Karen
  2. Is it close to your fallopian tubes or your ovaries? That's the only thing that I can think of. Sometimes when I am ovulating, I have excrutiating pain for a couple of hours then it goes away. I would strongly recommend you contact your doctor though. Don't leave it go too long..... Keep us posted. Karen
  3. Oh Berneses! I am sooooooo keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. Even my legs are crossed for you, (no, wait, they usually are crossed anyway, trying to keep the big D from coming out!!! LOL!) Hugs and fertility prayers being sent your way! Karen
  4. Every person is different when it comes to their reaction. Some people react immediately and violently, others reaction is delayed and fairly minor. Others, don't react at all (silent celiac). Personally, when I have gluten, I start almost immediately to get a tingling feeling in my face and lips, followed shortly by a tightening feeling in my throat...
  5. I have a rather sinister theory about that actually. I think that the drug companies have absolutely no interest whatsoever in researching celiac disease. After all, the treatment for it is diet change, not a pill. There's nothing in it for them. In fact, the opposite is true. If celiac disease becomes well known and properly diagnosed, there would...
  6. Well, being Canadian, I can't really comment on the NIH, but I can say welcome to the board and I am glad you found us! Celiac.com is quickly becoming "the place to go to" to properly learn about this disease and how to cope. There are people here who are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Welcome aboard! Karen
  7. Hi Moongirl, I'm also a Pepto person. Immodium does squat for me due to the collagenous colitis. For me, since I NEVER get rid of the diarrhea even when totally gluten-free, my concern is more for pain management. I have my heating pad on low, sit on my bed crosslegged, and rock forward and backward. I close my eyes, breath in through the nose...
  8. Hi Pipes, Welcome to the board! I hope you find all your answers here and any questions you might have, feel free to ask ANYTHING! There is no question too stupid to ask, we have all been there done that! In regards to your question about disability, I am currently on it but I live in Canada and I am covered through my work (I am on long term disability...
  9. The longer your body is free from gluten, the more sensitive it is to it when it is exposed to it. For all those people who are suffering right now with celiac symptoms but don't know it is celiac, they are still basically functioning on a daily basis while consuming gluten, struggling until finally they get the proper diagnosis. Once they get their answer...
  10. Hi Mary. Just wanted to mention to you that you are living my life! You described exactly what I live with every day. I have been gluten-free for over 3 yrs now with no improvement. Finally, I was referred to a professor at St. Mike's hospital who specializes in celiac. He discovered through colonoscopy that I also have a severe case of collagenous...
  11. If you ate a little rat poison, you would get sick, then recover eventually. If you ate it again, you would get sick, and recover again..... Over the long haul, it would be safe to assume that you are slowing poisoning yourself to death. Same goes for gluten. It is toxic to us. Sure, it won't kill us immediately, but the more exposure to it, the...
  12. Yep, darn intestines are like Grand Central Station through the night....... Hope the wedding plans are going smoothly. Hope to hear from you soon! Hugs. Karen
  13. Hey Lisa, how's it going? I didn't see anything wrong with your answer........ Karen
  14. Nothin' to be sorry about!! Based on the title of that thread, there would be no way to know that that is the direction the thread turned into!!!! LOL! Hugs. Karen
  15. Happened that way for me too. For six months, we were, "Should we or shouldn't we?", finally I said "Pal, we'll let God decide, if it is meant to be, it will happen". The very next month I was pregnant, and it was twins!!!! Talk about "meant to be", eh? LOL! Karen
  16. I use Planters with no problems. As for the bite size chocolate bars: M & M Mars (Master Foods) (Open Original Shared Link) (800-551-9985) (vp=1-19-04) In the USA all sizes of the following are gluten-free: Snickers, Snickers Munch, Snickers Almond, Skittles bite size, Starburst, Dove, 3Musketeers, MilkyWay Midnight (all other MilkyWay's are...
  17. Thanks guys! ( - soon to be gleaming!!!! LOL) Hugs. Karen
  18. You will have a very interesting read here: Open Original Shared Link I believe all your questions will be answered there..... (We have already talked about this extensively!!!) LOL! Karen
  19. Hi Rad! Welcome to the board! If you have been reading through the site, perhaps you have already figured out that there is no topic we shy away from, no question that seems to gross to ask..... Welcome! Karen
  20. I want to try to whiten my teeth but don't know of any that are safe for us? Anyone? Thanks! Karen
  21. Hi Beverly, I also was on gluten for all my pregnancies. I asked my GI specialist recently how I possibly got through all those pregnancies while poisoning myself with gluten, and he said that it is his experience that celiac disease seems to be kind to pregnant women, our body makes it through somehow..... When I was in my early 20's, I was told I...
  22. I just came across this. I knew I had read this study somewhere, and it turns out to be here! https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-18106091650.f8 Karen
  23. Antidepressants have been a godsend for me personally, but I agree with Richard that it is different for every person. I have struggled with depression for a very long time, and have been taking anti-depressants for almost a decade now. This time of the year is absolutely brutal for me (from November to February) due to Seasonal Affective Disorder, and...
  24. I mostly use Tylenol. Sometimes I use Motrin for my joints (knees, elbows, thumb) but for the most part, I use Tylenol #1's. Here in Canada, you can get Tylenol #1's (with codeine) over the counter without a prescription, which helps tremendously when I have either a headache or back pain and also for menstrual cramps...... Karen
  25. Yep, if it is Kraft and it says vinegar or food starch, etc. they will clearly list if it is the kind that is no good for us. That's why I love those guys!!! Hugs. Karen
