  1. You definitely need to get tested for celiac, but I want to also suggest maybe getting your thyroid checked. Both conditions can bring on your symptoms..... Welcome to the board!!! Karen
  2. Hey celiac3270, welcome back!!!!! Glad to see you back on line !!!!!! Karen
  3. Hey! That's cool! I got a perfect score!!!!! YEAH! Karen
  4. Oh, Oh, me too! Me too! (Raising hand wildly!!!!! ) Jeesh, I sure have a long way to travel for this one, eh? lol! Karen
  5. I know it may seem so overwhelming at first and wonder what the heck are your going to feed a six yr old with such restrictions, but really, there are lots of options out there, foods that are mainstream. Here is a link to a list of gluten-free food which is really comprehensive, always kept up to date and is categorized for convenience...... Open Original...
  6. Hey Shimma! The best way to tackle 26 feet of innards is one foot at the time, eh? Most people, it "one day at a time", for celiacs, we measure improvement by the foot!!! LOL!! Karen
  7. Wow Shannon! That is wonderful news! Sounds like you are definitely on the right path...... I love to hear success stories! They just make my day! Hugs to Ella, Karen
  8. Well, I can tell you what did it for me - the doctor mentioning to me the word "refractory" when I failed to show any improvement. Just google up "refractory celiac sprue" and that should be enough to convince you of the severity of this disease.... It scared me onto the straight and narrow and that's when I found all of the hidden gluten in my diet at the...
  9. Hi Cindy! Welcome to the board!! Well, now that you know that definitely you have celiac, you can start firstly by getting gluten free immediately. The second most important thing you can do is think positively. There are people on this board who literally were knocking on death's door before they finally got the celiac diagnosis and have worked their...
  10. Thanks! That is a really good one, I am sending it to my sister...... Karen
  11. Hi Beverly, Sending you lots of hugs right now and also lots of understanding of what you are going through - shall we say "Been there, done that, been there again"???? I am one who gets on an emotional roller coaster when I am glutened (and even sometimes when I am not!!!!) I am on both Prozac and Wellbutrin which works well for me. We...
  12. Here is a link to glutenfree vitamins, and there are various liquids on that list..... Open Original Shared Link I found liquid vitamins easier for me to absorb than the pills, especially iron..... Take care, Karen
  13. I would have pointed out to the manager that they had better wake up and smell the gluten free coffee. I would have pointed out the high incidence of celiac disease in the Irish population and if they want to stay competitive in the restaurant business during the "celiac disease diagnosis revolution", they better be more accomodating...... Karen
  14. If you are using the Gas-X chewable tablets, THEY ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE!!! I found this out the hard way. I was chewing them like candy for the gas, until I found out that they contained gluten! Now I use Phasyme. They work. Karen
  15. Actually, just to add to that: The best way to describe how it felt is like it felt like a dam was in my intestines stopping everything from going down and the pain was incredible. When I had the "Pink Lady", it felt like a bomb that immediately broke the dam and suddenly there was relief!!!! Sounds weird, I know, but boy, was I happy!!!! Karen
  16. Misa, The exact same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. The pain was so intense that I had to take a taxi to the hospital. After a bunch of tests, the doc comes in and says "Here, try this and see if it helps....". It was something they call a "Pink Lady". Well, whatever was in it (I know Pepto was part of it, but some other powerful stuff...
  17. Wonderful work! Good luck! Karen
  18. Another thing to mention about being tired all the time - make sure you get your thyroid checked. That could be a symptom of hypothyroidism, which is common with celiacs...... Karen
  19. Google up "refractory celiac disease" or "refractory sprue" and read up on it. It certainly was the deciding factor for me to take this disease much more seriously than I was at the beginning...... Oh, by the way, welcome to the board! There's a great bunch of people here for support! Take care, Karen
  20. Possibly thyroid related, do you have thyroid disease? Still, definitely worth going to your doctor about..... Karen
  21. I have had that happen before...... I think it has something to do with how our bodies get so exhausted (extreme fatigue) from gluten that our inner mechanism that wakes us through the night if we need to "go", just doesn't work..... I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it became a regular occurence..... Karen
  22. Yep, people here are quite excited about it. It is being discussed on another thread. Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link I only hope that this will extend to Canada also! Take care, Karen
  23. This is wild!! I was about to post asking about Red Bull and if anyone has learned of it's gluten-free status or not..... Now I know that I can have that "energy boost"!!!!! Karen
  24. I use Gain. I just LOVE the smell!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is a link to household products that are okay..... Open Original Shared Link Take care, Karen
  25. I occasionally get those type of pains, but mine is definitely due to gas (it is sharp, stabbing kind of pain and I have to keep changing positions on the floor in order to work the gas through my system). I usually start lying on my stomach for a few minutes, switch over to one side for a few minutes, then on my back for a few minutes, then the other side...
