ARCHIVED Where Do I Go For Help Staying On The Gf
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I can tell you what did it for me - the doctor mentioning to me the word "refractory" when I failed to show any improvement. Just google up "refractory celiac sprue" and that should be enough to convince you of the severity of this disease.... It scared me onto the straight and narrow and that's when I found all of the hidden gluten in my diet at the... -

Hi Cindy! Welcome to the board!! Well, now that you know that definitely you have celiac, you can start firstly by getting gluten free immediately. The second most important thing you can do is think positively. There are people on this board who literally were knocking on death's door before they finally got the celiac diagnosis and have worked their... -

I would have pointed out to the manager that they had better wake up and smell the gluten free coffee. I would have pointed out the high incidence of celiac disease in the Irish population and if they want to stay competitive in the restaurant business during the "celiac disease diagnosis revolution", they better be more accomodating...... ARCHIVED Relief?
Canadian Karen replied to cgilsing's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are using the Gas-X chewable tablets, THEY ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE!!! I found this out the hard way. I was chewing them like candy for the gas, until I found out that they contained gluten! Now I use Phasyme. They work. Karen -
Actually, just to add to that: The best way to describe how it felt is like it felt like a dam was in my intestines stopping everything from going down and the pain was incredible. When I had the "Pink Lady", it felt like a bomb that immediately broke the dam and suddenly there was relief!!!! Sounds weird, I know, but boy, was I happy!!!! Karen

Misa, The exact same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. The pain was so intense that I had to take a taxi to the hospital. After a bunch of tests, the doc comes in and says "Here, try this and see if it helps....". It was something they call a "Pink Lady". Well, whatever was in it (I know Pepto was part of it, but some other powerful stuff...

ARCHIVED Bedwetting After Being Glutened?
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had that happen before...... I think it has something to do with how our bodies get so exhausted (extreme fatigue) from gluten that our inner mechanism that wakes us through the night if we need to "go", just doesn't work..... I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it became a regular occurence..... Karen -

I occasionally get those type of pains, but mine is definitely due to gas (it is sharp, stabbing kind of pain and I have to keep changing positions on the floor in order to work the gas through my system). I usually start lying on my stomach for a few minutes, switch over to one side for a few minutes, then on my back for a few minutes, then the other side...
