  1. I amnot even as sensitive as a lot of people on here but I have reacted to rice chex (the new gluten-free ones) and bushes baked beans.... I normally dont have a prob with plain unprocced rice, but legumes do bother me, so not sure if its CC or not. But processsed foods in general make me feel like crap. And I feel for you..... I really wish everyone still...
  2. o.k so I bought a bag, had no reactions I normally react to things like this if they have gluten. Like cheetos for example...OMG, can't have those! haha
  3. thanks. I kinda figured resturants get those questions a lot....theres just always that fear that they'll have no clue, even though I know its most likely not the case. yeah the place I want to call has a menu online and pretty much the only thing I would feel somewhat safe ordering is the broiled haddock. all the meals come with salad and baked potato...
  4. Sooooo, I feel wierd calling resturants ahead a time to ask about food preparation and if they could accomodate me. I've never actually called any ressturants and havent even really ate out in a year since I found I was gluten intolerant. does anyone else feel awkard calling ahead of time? I never know what to say.... and then I keep telling myself ...
  5. I havent had a prob with rice chex. but if I eat way too many its similar to a glutening. same with any grain for me. I just feel better away from them. I eat them only occasionally.
  6. I believe Tops/Giant stores only carries this brand, but does anyone know if the tortilla chips are gluten free??? The web site says they do have gluten-free labels, but I've never seen it on thier products The chips are on sale for $1.69 a bag right now and they have the blue corn chips!!! its killing me not to know if they ar eGF. I may just call them...
  7. I believe this resturant is only near Buffalio NY, but has anyone ever been there? had any luck?
  8. some products contain more gluten than others. pure whole wheat bread has much more gluten than white bread. Subway doesnt have real whole wheat bread even though they have "wheat bread" options....i know white bread never really bothered me as much eirther. but I did get worse heart burn from it, just not as much gas/d/bloating as compared to white bread...
  9. OMG! I cant eat that tuna, I get REALLY naucious and I think it tastes horrible. It doesnt have gluten in it, but it does have soy. and actually, since I dont eat soy anymore, all i taste when I eat it is soy!!!!. Try to look for tuna that is packed in nothing but WATER. I know wegmans makes it, not sure about some other brands. It seems everyone...
  10. well I suggested to my mom that I could make something at my apt. and she doesnt like the idea and still wants to go out to eat-lol. A friend suggested to a me a coffee shop in the town that I may be able to eat at. I looked at thier menu online and its basically salads and sandwiches. so I e-mailed them about the salads. its a privately owned place and the...
  11. this is so awesome. I'll have to try this. has anyone heard about the new gluten-free store they are building in bufffalo? also, does anyone from this area know any resturants in the dunkirk/fredonia area that understand gluten-free?? I DONT! lol
  12. thanks! yeah. my mom still hasnt grasped the whole CC thing. I went over there for mothers day yeterday and couldn't eat the BBQ chicken my brother made b/c the sauce had wheat in it and he put the chicken on a baking tray that has been used to bake cookies with for years... They said "we can just wash he BBQ sauce off for you, theres not that much in there...
  13. SO my college graduation is next saturday and my mom is coming out. She's wants to go out to eat afterwards, but there is really nowhere in this town I can eat out at...and nowhere under 30 mins away that will cater to gluten-free. it's basically all fast food places with applebees, denny's being the only real sit down places and some locally run resturants...
  14. So I stay away from soy as much as possible. Not only because it causes me digestive problems, mostly bloating and gas, but also because the whole "soy is healthy" thing really angers me. Don't get me wrong, I am a person who used to drink soymilk everyday! - if only I knew I was killing myself! and then add in the whole thing with companies like Monsanto...
  15. yeah. thats what I got when I went to the store today. accept I get the kind with calcium since I can't eat dairy/soy and really cant afford products like hemp or rice milk right now...
  16. I found this on a celiac support site: "Per email: "We're happy to tell you-- all Tropicana products that are 100% juice are gluten free. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that gluten is not present in products that are less than 100% juice. You can easily determine if a Tropicana product is 100% juice by looking for the Nutrition Facts Panel...
  17. I was so excited about this until I saw "soy flour" in the chocolate and strawberry ones
  18. what about people with gluten intolerance and not celiac?
  19. OMG I get the thing where my skin hurts.....i was wondering always if this is normal with edema?? It actaully gets so bad that if I press down anywhere on my body...mostly around my mid section/sides/back....it feels like bruising!!! then I can feel the same bruising feeling in my muscles. I have more muscle than fat and I know muscle retains more water....
  20. I was always puffy on gluten. Now that I'm gluten free I notice even more when I gain water wieght. I actaully think it has gotten worse gluten-free, but thats because it isn't a constant thing and I actually notice it now. Although a low sodium diet can help some people. I have found that can make my water retention worse. I'm 23 and I am also a runner...
  21. Does anyone else react worse days after a glutening?..... So I had a small screw up on Saturday night. I was out and had a few drinks, which I know where gluten free b/c its what I always drink...plus I brought them with me! Later on I had some bagged chips from the bar, which I have also had before with no problem. I checked the ingredients and everything...
  22. I have been o.k. with the sweet potato chips as well. I always avoid snacks that have flavorings and spices...for some reason spices either give me heartburn or horrible G.
  23. oh man...if they had that i would spray it all over my mom's apartment just to prove to her there is gluten all over that place! lol I feel like crap and get super bloated everytime I go there...
  24. I agree with this. E-mailing is a great source of frustration for me. I would call her or talk to her in person. The way she wrote the e-mail, there is no way of telling of she intended it to be. You could take it as eith "look, I told ya you could've ate it" or "here's the ingredients, just thought you'd like to know maybe for next time." god I hate e-mail...
  25. Does anyone else get cramping and D/not feeling so great/lack of energy when they rely on processed (gluten-free ) foods? ....assuming there are no other allergens in those foods! It bugs me b/c I've been doing whole foods for so long, whenever I switch over to processed again..even gradually....I start getting the D and gluten-like symptoms sneaking...
