  1. So I htink it is finally starting to sink in the that I really cant trust to eat out at other peoples houses. From now on i am bringing my own food...as "insulting" as it may be to the people's homes I go to . I got glutened on x-mas. My brother made deep fried turkey, string beans/with carrots and olive oil/oinions and mashes potatoes. All I ate was...
  2. Yea i thought about just eating meat once and a while. Eggs are ok for me. Usually just eating egg whites are good, but I notice if I eat too many whole eggs they bother me a bit...nothing horrible though. Plus I usualy just eat the whites for health reasons anyways...too much heart disease in my family!
  3. yes, i think excercise does trigger the symptoms of celiac to come forth. Excercise is obviously really good for the body, but depending on the intensity and impact on the body, it can also be a stress. Research shows that people can be born with the celiac genes, but never have it "activated" or triggered until later in life. Stress and traumatic events...
  4. I wasn't sure where to post this, but since I am a runner and do other various excercises everyday, I am always concious of how much protien I take in. I notice I feel a lot better when I DONT eat meat and was considering trying a vegitarian diet for a while. Is anyone here gluten free and vegitarian? My main concern though is that i cannot tolerate...
  5. I was glutened this x-mas by CC...it was just a turkey my brother had made and he placed on top of a baking sheet for carving (which of couse I didnt realize till after the fact) But I woke up really naucious in the middle of the night...I had a sinus infection, so I thought maybe it was from that... The next day I seemed ok...(I still didnt know that the...
  6. On Corn Pasta: The quinou corn past is actually pretty good (I think) Open Original Shared Link I havent tried too many bad products actually. BUT I wanted to buy something this week b/c I happened to have a few extra dollars. I bought what is called "HOL GRAIN CRACKERS" in a brown box. They almost look like triscuits on the cover. I spent nearly $4...
  7. definitly can never be too cautious I live in an APT. where i go to school. Since going gluten free, I havent used my oven. I've been using a toaster oven to make all my stuff.....anyways.....a couple weeks ago I decided to make some chicken drumsticks in the regular oven. I had them on a a clean tray covered in tinfoil. SOmehow a few hours later and all...
  8. thanks , yeah I'm definitly going next week. Before going gluten-free I always used to cook for everyone too, but it really makes you appreciate things more when the opportunity to sit down and enjoy something someone else made for you is taken away...Not to mention it gets a little emotional especially with family, when they want to do things for you...
  9. thanks yes I liked alot of stuff in the package . Larabars are now my new favorite food!!!!! I also liked the glutino bars alot, I'm just not so sure how much they agreed with me...I dunno why...but nothing horrible..I'm still slowly re-introducing processed foods too. Bt i seriously dont know what I wouldve done without help from you and some other...
  10. the only thing I can truly say I miss is beer and pretzles. gluten-free beer doesnt do it for me.....but...ugh....a bud light and some preztles would be amazing....besides that.....GLUTEN can kiss my #%$
  11. I feel like I post in here way too much. (sorry) I'm really REAALLLLLY missing being able to sit down and eat an entire meal entirely cooked by someone other than ME!!! It really has been almost a year now....Its getting abut monotonous, especially being in college. I know everyone with celiac deals with this or has dealt with it even if they...
  12. I found the best thing to do is just get rid of anything with sugar in your house. Have plenty of fesh fruit around. I always grab an apple when I want something sweet. Stick to juices that are not from concentrate. I also found that sweet potatoes help control sugar cravings. It does get easier. After a while you wont even want sugar. once you go back to...
  13. I havent heard back from any jobs i applied for yet ( I wouldnt have the time with 18 credits right now and finals!!! maybe once break starts!) But I did get a few gigs coming up, which will help me out greatly! they dont pay a ton, considering I have to put gas in my tank to get to them, but they will at least give me enough cash to get home for the holidays...
  14. you know, after all the help I recieved from this forum, I think I just might look into somehow creating a "sponser a student" program...seriously!!!!!......it could be a thing accross the country.....I know so many people that are dropping out of school b/c they just can't sfford it!!! its really sad. I'm really going to look into this now!
  15. I'll definitly post back after my appt..... hopefully the dentist gives me a better explanation than the school health center (they just said, "oh, thats wierd")
  16. you know. everytime I eat nuts I start feeling like crap and noticed these pop up! It sucks b/c I love nutts.....I'm going off of them for a week or so to see if I feel better.
  17. I've posted about this before but couldnt find the thread. I've ben getting little red dots in my mouth off and on. They arent painful, but not very pretty looking. The last time I posted about this I really didn't know what they were (and still dont) but it seems I get them when I am stressed or introducing new foods. They are ussually on the inside of...
  18. Colleges are actually really good wih this. I go to a small college where there are only 2 celiacs (that they know of) living on campus. They order gluten-free foods and supply a seperate fridge and toaster for the dorm and food prep areas. Most colleges require a doctors note stating your condition first though. I wrote an article on this for my school...
  19. I know this probably has been posted a million times....but for those of you who had tried redbridge and Bard's Tale beers, are they both similar tasting? if not, what is the differance? I have tried redbridge and did not like it. It smells good and tastes good on first sip, but has a metallic aftertaste (to me anyways) unless i got an expired batch, but...
  20. It's very frustrating when people are constantly asking me "can you it this? can you eat that?" But it is more frustrating when they are asking it while I am eating. I understand it is the time when these questions would pop up, obviously, but I just feel like I need to end my explaining this to people while I am trying to eat and say "I would be happy to...
  21. I am still usig the same toaster oven, but I only use it for cooking chicken breast and sweet potatoes. I scrubbed all the parts really good and always wrap my food in tin-foil and put it on top of the tray, which is double wrapped in tinfoil.. I havent had a problem, but if you can afford a new one I would DEFINITLY go with the new one!
  22. when I build a house someday its going to be 100% gluten-free....no gluten allowed!!! I went home for thanksgiving, excited to have food, only to get glutened even though I made it clear to my mom what to do to avoid CC....its nearly impossible!! I took food back to school with me.....only to realize I have been continuously glutening myself Luckily...
  23. If there are no ingredients in the product that contain gluten and it does not cause me any problems I will eat it. Normally I stay away from products produced on the same lines as wheat products, unless the company says they are tested, but there are some products that do not cause me problems. For ex. Frito lay does not test thier products but has...
  24. The best thing for me is to stay as active as possible and away from home as much as possible. I get depressed when i am stuck in one place too long, add gluten and its thoughts of not wanting to live. When I was on gluten I was so depressed at times that I often didnt recognize that underneath it all I am a happy person with many goals. If I fall into...
  25. I think the gradual reintroduction does work. I know that soy and dairy are a problem for me, along with nightshades, but I didnt completely give them up. Small qauntities seem to be O.K. Corn was one thing that really bothered me just after going gluten-free but now I dont have a problem. Soy seems to be much better with me also...its just concentrated amounts...
