ARCHIVED I Have Celiac Now What....
Amyleigh0007 replied to irunwithscissors's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I believe my second C-section about a year ago is what did it for me. My IBS symptoms were off the charts after coming home from the hospital and remained that way until I went gluten free a little over a month ago. Good luck to you! -
I am right there with you. I am also getting really discouraged. It seems like ever since I went to the dentist a few weeks ago I have been sick. Until then I felt great. I was sick last night and I'm sick again tonight. I won't give up but I am so frustrated. I'm starting to not want to eat at all for fear of getting sick.

ARCHIVED Another Newbie In Town
Amyleigh0007 replied to Tsunami's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is very overwhelming in the beginning. I remember having a breakdown in the middle of Walmart because I had no idea what my poor son was going to eat. I would stick to whole foods until you have a chance to speak to your doctor. Meats, fruits, and veggies are gluten free and there are no ingredient lists to stress over. Celiac's are told to stay away... -
ARCHIVED Depressed--tests Came Back Negative
Amyleigh0007 replied to samcarter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh my gosh! You need to find my topic "Does Anyone Else Feel This Way" in the Coping With section. I feel the same way! My tests were negative but have had an awesome response from the diet. I think because I don't have an "offical" dx that people will think I'm being difficult or nutty. Everyone on the forum that responded gave me wonderful advice. -
ARCHIVED Need Simple List Of Common "no-no" Items For Preschool Teacher
Amyleigh0007 replied to sixdogssixcats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I want to add that when I was in college working as a preschool aide the teacher would sometimes replace the sand in the sand table with oatmeal or dry pasta. She said it would give the children different sensory experiences. I would watch out for that too. -
ARCHIVED Am I Right To Go Gluten Free With My 11 Month Old?
Amyleigh0007 replied to mommymatheny's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Poor baby. I hope Olivia is better soon. My 11 month old daughter is gluten free. She has never had gluten. We had started rice cereal and were getting ready to start the other cereals when my son was dx. Since my son was dx in March I have made our house gluten free. I know many people say I should keep her on gluten to test her later in life but I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free On A Budget And Dealing With Family
Amyleigh0007 replied to susanm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten free specialty food is very expensive! I buy a few items for my son like crackers and an Oreo type cookie, but there is a limit to how much prepacked stuff I will get. At first the gluten free diet is so overwhelming, the prepacked stuff was so much easier. Now I have started making things from mixes such as waffles and cookies instead of buying... -
ARCHIVED Reading Labels
Amyleigh0007 replied to Dustda18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Walmart's Great Value brand has Gluten-Free on the label if the product is indeed gluten free. That has helped me a lot and I will purchase that brand over others just for that fact. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Infertility
Amyleigh0007 replied to WhimsiKay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I got pregnant with my first child within months of going off the pill. It took me 5 YEARS to get pregnant with my second. There are 7 1/2 years between my two kids! -
ARCHIVED Best gluten-free Cake Mixes (not Chocolate)
Amyleigh0007 replied to Anya78's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with ShayFL. Pamela's vanilla cake mix is the best I have found so far. My son loved it. -
ARCHIVED Allergy Re-testing?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass- So if you have a lot of environmental allergies are you more prone to Celiac? I know I have many, many outside allergies. I have to take Claritin D everyday or I can't make it through the day. I've been taking it so long that it doesn't seem to work anymore. I'm thinking that certain food might be causing my constant congestion and sinus... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms.. Celiac Or Gluten Sensitive?
Amyleigh0007 replied to wockandwoll's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac and gluten sensitivity are pretty much the same thing, they are just on different parts of a spectrum. When you have Celiac you have villi damage and if you have gluten sensitivity you don't have damage... yet. The only way to know for sure is to have the doctor do a Celiac panel (bloodtest) but you must keep eating gluten for the tests to be accurate... -
ARCHIVED Friend With Celiac - Pantry Ideas?
Amyleigh0007 replied to tiedyeavenger's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tinkyada rice pasta is really good and comes in all the different shapes. Mrs. Leeper's corn pasta is also good. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Frosting In A Can
Amyleigh0007 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My daughter is turning one soon and I am making her birthday cupcakes. Does anyone know if Pillsbury strawberry flavor frosting is gluten free? I emailed them last week and still haven't heard back. The ingredients look okay but I want to know for sure. Thank you! -
ARCHIVED Pamela's Brownies
Amyleigh0007 replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made a cake today using Pamela's vanilla cake mix. My son has been invited to a birthday party next weekend and I froze a piece of the cake for him to take. -
ARCHIVED Allergy Re-testing?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I thought that the allergist would do blood tests but the paperwork I received said something about the skin test. I hope that isn't what she is planning on doing. My son's food allergy testing was done via bloodwork and that seemed very accurate. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Myself-am I Right?
Amyleigh0007 replied to tonyabeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I asked that question on here and some people said that it may have been the flavored cleaners or polish. I don't know if that's it for sure but I can't think of anything else it could have been. When my son went to the same dentist I told them to use gluten free materials. He was fine. I did not do that for myself and I got sick. I am going to ask for... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Re-testing?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am getting tested for food allergies on the 11th. I'm not looking forward to it but I am curious to see the results. -
ARCHIVED Ritz Crackers & Wheat Thins
Amyleigh0007 replied to drjsparker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Would a skin test show a wheat allergy? I always thought that bloodtests were used to determine food allergies and skin tests were used to determine environmental allergies. I ask because I am having food allergy tesing done on the 11th and I figured the doctor would just draw blood. Anyway, my son has both Celiac and a wheat allergy (and many other... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Re-testing?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac and food allergies are two different things. You can have Celiac and not have a wheat allergy or you can have both or you can have a wheat allergy and not Celiac. From my understanding, food intolerances do not show up in food allergy tests. Those are also two differnt things. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Lunches
Amyleigh0007 replied to Will The Thrill's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son enjoys Glutino crackers with cheese slices. I also sometimes send him a small thermos with leftovers from dinner such as pasta with red sauce or mac and cheese. Nut Thins with peanut butter is good as well as corn tortillas with cheese. We also like peanut butter smeared on a corn tortilla wrapped around a banana. Apple slices and baby carrots... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Feel This Way?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Progress! I went out to lunch yesterday and I am still alive today! We went to Longhorn Steakhouse. When the server came over I gave her an allergy alert card and told her it was for both my son and myself. She went to the manager and he printed from the website a gluten free menu for us. I had a cheeseburger (no bun) and a sweet potato and my son had... -
ARCHIVED Normal - Now What?
Amyleigh0007 replied to ohsotired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ohsotired: Yes! I was tested and, what a shock, was negative. I was so discouraged. I decided to go completely gluten free with my son not only to support him but to see if it would help my IBS symptoms. I feel better than I have in the last 10 years. -
ARCHIVED Normal - Now What?
Amyleigh0007 replied to ohsotired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I totally understand! I have been told IBS and "normal tests results" for 19 years but going gluten free was the only thing that has made me feel better. I am having food allergy tests done next week just to see if I have any since my son has many. I am sure everything will come back "normal". -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Feel This Way?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That doctor is a joke. My mom begged me not to go to him. She can't stand him. Actually, I am learning that most doctors are jokes. My son's GI actually told my husband that he didn't need to get tested since he didn't have any symptoms. I thought that was crazy too.
