  1. My kids lasted about an hour. We dumped all the candy out and put the gluten stuff in our bowl to "regift" to the neighborhood kids. My son kept the M&M's and Hershey bars and that was it. In exchange for the gluten candy we had to "regift", I took him to a book store today and I bought him some books. He was very happy with that idea so we will do...
  2. My 8-year-old loves Amy's frozen mac and cheese. They come in handy when we need a quick meal. He also loves Glutino frozen cheese pizza. We do alot of string cheese with deli turkey for lunch. Investing in a small Thermos is also a great idea. That way you can send hot lunches to school. Kinnikinnik (sp) makes great donuts. My son loves the maple...
  3. Is all hay bad? I didn't even think about a hay ride being off limits. My son has been on two hay rides in the last two weeks. How do you know if it's wheat hay?
  4. Since my son has Celiac we never did introduce our 14 month old daughter to other cereals besides rice. I just didn't want to risk my daughter getting ill like my son did. She still has never had gluten. She eats all the same foods we eat. Our home is gluten free.
  5. You all had some great insight. I do feel sort of yuck today (headache, yawning all day, muscle pain) but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be (D for hours, extreme fatigue). I would never give up on the gluten free diet just because I ate a few Twizzlers with little ill effects. I am a strong believer of the gluten free diet and eating a few pieces...
  6. Thanks for your replies. It's interesting to get others opinions. I might be counting my chickens before they hatch. I should give it a bit longer before I celebrate with more Twizzlers. My Celiac testing was messed up so my results were not accurate. I actually don't really know if I have Celiac. I do not wish to gorge myself with gluten for 3 months...
  7. I gave in. I ate Twizzlers. I shoved them down my throat when my son was outside. I inhaled them when he went downstairs. I ate more while he was in the bathtub. I knew I shouldn't have bought Halloween candy this early.... Anyway, I am not sick. I had mild nausea (anyone would who just ate their weight in Twizzlers) but that's it. No D, no headache...
  8. I was in your shoes. My test was also negative and I believe it was because I wasn't eating enough gluten. My son has Celiac and I have had symptoms almost my entire life, although I had never heard of Celiac until my son was dx. I decided to forget about my crazy doctor and go completely gluten free despite my negative test. I have had a terrific response...
  9. I strongly believe the reason my Celiac bloodtests came back negative was because I was eating gluten "light". When my son was dx in March I got rid of all gluten in our house. The only time I ate gluten was at lunch at work and that was only whatever amount of gluten was in the Lean Cuisine I had that day. All other meals and snacks were gluten free....
  10. My son was dx with allergies to corn, wheat, egg whites, clam, soy, walnuts, and peanuts. His dr also told us that he could eat these foods but with limits. We have to watch how much he consumes and if he has any reactions (because he has never had any visible reactions). For example, he can have waffles that contain egg but I would never give him a scrambled...
  11. Maybe you could bake them some yummy gluten free goodies or invite them over for a delicious gluten free meal that you have prepared. That way they could see that gluten free can be tasty. Print informational material from the internet and give it to them. I also suffered from infertility due to un-dx gluten issues. It took me 5 years to get pregnant...
  12. I am the same way. I have lost 10 pounds and my belly is flat, my bloat is gone. I used to eat and eat and eat. I was never full. It actually used to scare me that I never felt full. After I would eat and eat and eat I would spend the next 3 hours in the bathroom then I would be extremely hungry again. I now feel normal.
  13. I am beginning to feel the effects of temptation too. I always told myself I would never give in but now I'm not so sure. It's been over 3 months gluten free for me now. I think the realization has set in that I will never be able to have certain foods again, like toasted ravioli. I love toasted ravioli. But, I would never, ever cheat in front of my...
  14. I have read that people with Celiac tend to get more canker sores but my son has never had them until now. He has had two in the past month. He won't take any meds for them so he just suffers. Does anyone know anything about the relationship between Celiac and canker sores? Does this mean he is getting gluten from somewhere? Does anyone know of any natural...
  15. I agree with celiac-mommy. Speaking as a teacher and a parent with a Celiac child, I can see both sides. I wouldn't be too hard on her the first time but if it happens again I would get upset. As a parent, we want our kids to be able to participate. I get so angry at "food parties" that some teachers think are necessary to reward their students. Could...
  16. My son has had 2 in 6 months. The first was for the dx and the second was 4 months later to see if he had any improvement. I don't think I will allow anymore. It's pretty upsetting for him and I don't think another is necessary since he is gaining weight and his health has improved so much.
  17. Thanks! Those are just the answers I was looking for. I am excited to find something different and easy that my son can take to school. He is getting sick of the same stuff over and over. He is really picky.
  18. My son has been asking for Lunchables Nachos, the one with chips, cheese, and salsa. I read the ingredients and didn't see anything off limits. Is it okay?
  19. My son and I eat Edy's Double Vanilla without any problems.
  20. Yes! We eat Eggo syrup. We haven't had any reactions.
  21. I had allergy testing done a few months ago. I was told to stop taking my allergy meds two weeks before my appointment. I had the scratch testing done too. They used oils of the foods on tack looking things and poked my skin. I'm not sure why it's called "scratch" because it's not really scratching. It's poking.
  22. Your son sounds just like mine! He was born large and slowly slipped off the growth charts. When he was tested for Celiac in March he had just turned 8 and weighed 41 pounds. He was always constipated. He would have a BM once a week. His pedi put him on some powdered stuff that never worked. She also said he would just be small since my husband and...
  23. Has anyone used McKormick Orginal Chicken seasoning when you make chicken strips?
  24. I love to hear success stories! I am so happy for you and your son!
  25. I second the crockpot idea. You can throw in some chicken breasts and BBQ sauce and eat that over rice or make sandwiches. It's also good in tortillas with cheese. You could eat for several days with crockpot cooking. It's easy, economical, and good!
