  1. It's very, very difficult to have your child continue to eat food you know is harming them, but to get accurate results she must eat gluten. Something you could try between now and the scope is let your daughter have a free for all with her favorite foods. We let my son have what ever he wanted for those two weeks knowing that soon he would have to give...
  2. I love gummy worms too! I could live on those things! I buy Walmart's Great Value brand because it states Gluten-Free right on the package. As for fast food, lots of places have gluten free menu items. A lot of places will post those items on their websites, but you risk cross contamination. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk to eat fast food.
  3. fleckapo- I just read your question posted on the Alerts website so I assume you are from the same area that I am! I can offer you some advice on your question #1: My 8 year old son has been pale his entire life. After he had been on the gluten free diet for a few months he began to get color in his cheeks (and he actually has cheeks now!). His school...
  4. Lays Stax are made on a dedicated gluten free line so there is no worry about cross contamination. The website states that fact.
  5. Mamma Goose- How up to date is that link that you posted? I am wondering because I saw a few things that were listed as unsafe but I thought were safe such as MSG and Ore-Ida tator tots. I am in a bit of a panic mode seeing those things listed as unsafe.....
  6. Right after my son was dx I got online and printed lots of fast food menus that claimed their items were gluten free. But, after learning about cross contamination I decided that I would not allow my son to eat fast food anymore. It's just not worth the risk. My heart breaks when he asks to stop at McDonalds, "just for a hamburger patty and fries" but...
  7. I'm not a doctor, sorry, but I do have personal experience in that area. I did not eat gluten (or was very gluten light) for about 6 weeks prior to my blood tests. They came back negative. But, a gluten free diet makes a huge difference in my health so I was dx with gluten intolerance. Continue to eat gluten for testing to be accurate.
  8. Yes, totally! That is my situation. My Celiac testing came back negative (falsely I believe - I had been gluten free for about 6 weeks) but I feel 100% better eating gluten free. My allergist agrees with that reasoning too and she is the one who dx me with gluten intolerance.
  9. I am so glad we went ahead with my son's endoscopy. It turns out he has acid reflux and we had no idea. We also found out that his food allergies were causing a hive like rash on his esophagus. We would have never found out these things if he had not had the endoscopy.
  10. My son loves Pamela's vanilla cake. In fact, I am making one on Wednesday to bring to a family gathering. It's yummy!
  11. I agree. They are ignornant, but I did not suggest getting nasty. I simply would not leave my child in a dangerous situation. Being given gluten is dangerous. I would not tolerate it. These people were told many times how to handle food for the child but they couldn't do it correctly. I would remove my child. I wouldn't risk my child's health so that...
  12. I'm sorry if this is blunt but I feel strongly about these types of situations. You are a parent. It is your job to keep your kids safe. If someone has given your child gluten (poison) several times despite warnings not to I would immediately remove my child from that situation. I would not tolerate it. Why would you want irresponsible people watching...
  13. I agree with celiac-mommy. You are the parent and it's your job to keep your kids safe. I would not tolerate anyone giving my son gluten when they know he should not have it. I don't care if it's family or not. I would not let the offending person near my child until they got the message that gluten is poison. Period.
  14. I lost weight too, about 10 pounds in two months. I have stopped now and have held steady for 2 weeks. Maybe you will stop losing weight too once you get to a weight that is just right for you. I think my body was holding on to the extra weight because it thought it was starving since I wasn't absorbing nutrients from my food (I had terrible D after every...
  15. I didn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. It caught my eye because my son loves cupcakes and I about flipped out when I saw it included gluten free mixes. But, when I showed it to him in the Walmart catalog he didn't want it because it is pink. Oh well. That's a bummer it's getting low ratings.
  16. YES! My son's toenails were very curved too! I always thought that was so odd, but it wasn't until he had been gluten free for several months before I realized it was from lack of vitamins. His body just wasn't absorbing anything. His nails are normal now.
  17. The brand is Girl Gourmet and it's a cupcake maker similiar to an Easy Bake Oven. I turned the box over and it clearly states that all the cupcake mixes and frosting mixes are wheat and gluten free!! I first saw it at Target and then we got a Walmart Christmas catalog and it was in there too.
  18. My son was not growing. He was 8 and weighed 41 pounds. He also was sick all the time and had a hard time getting over illnesses. He had terrible leg cramps at night. He was constipated. He had a BM about once a week. He was very, very picky with his food and only ate foods loaded with gluten (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, crackers, cookies, etc...
  19. I guess everyone went to www.coupons.com to print that coupon! When I went back to print another one it said the print limit had been reached. I hope lots of you got to print one while it lasted!
  20. I would get muscle/joint aches as well. My son would have terrible leg cramps.
  21. I have never seen a coupon for gluten free products! Go to www.coupons.com and I believe it's on the 2nd or 3rd page. It's 55 cents off an Enjoy Life product. It expires on 12/1/08. I would post a link but I don't know how
  22. I know this is old but I wanted to update it. I was concerned because I did not get ill right after eating Twizzlers. Well, it's been about 5 days now and I've been sick for the past 4. I guess it was a late reaction. I haven't had D and stomach pains like in the past. It feels more like a hangover. I am still not feeling better. My belly bloat is...
  23. This will be my son's and my first gluten free major holiday too. I am very nervous. We travel over 2 hours to a relative's home for Thanksgiving and I am not comfortable enough with that part of the family (my husbands side and we only see them on Thanksgiving) to request gluten free stuff. I guess I will have to pack some food for us, things that will...
  24. I always keep chicken breasts in the freezer and when I know we will have a crazy day and won't have much time to cook dinner I throw the chicken breasts into the crockpot with 1/2 bottle of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. By the time we come home dinner is ready! Cheeseburgers are quick and easy (we eat them bunless). I make "mommy helper". It's Tinkyada...
  25. I have been glutenated at the dentist.
