ARCHIVED Malt Vinegar In A Gluten Free Product
Amyleigh0007 replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, I didn't think of that and I already threw out the box. I believe the brand is Blue Horizon and the product is Fish and Chips fish bites. It's fish nuggets rolled in potato flakes. Is anyone familiar with this brand/product? -
ARCHIVED <2yo Son Scheduled For Biopsy, Questions
Amyleigh0007 replied to jdoylemd's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was much older when he had his biopsy (he was 8) but children are are going to be scared no matter what their age. Before they inserted the IV into my son they used a numbing cream on his hand. It made insertion painless. I can't remember what the cream is called, sorry, but I'm sure if you ask about the numbing cream they will know what it is.... -
ARCHIVED Van's Gluten-free Waffles?
Amyleigh0007 replied to rueyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the apple cinnamon waffles! They are the best. My ultra picky son will even eat them! I got mine at Whole Foods. -
ARCHIVED Malt Vinegar In A Gluten Free Product
Amyleigh0007 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I recently purchased a new product (new to me). It was labeled as wheat and gluten free but when I got it home and read the ingredients I saw it contained malt vinegar. I thought malt vinegar had gluten. Am I wrong? -
ARCHIVED Husband With Ibs But Showing Signs Of Coeliac
Amyleigh0007 replied to seashellp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My celiac blood tests were negative due to a gluten light diet. When my son was diagnosed last March we got rid of all gluten food and I only ate gluten at lunch at work and sometimes i didn't eat gluten at all for days in a row. When I had my test done last June it was negative but when I went for a second opinion at a different doctor she told me my... -
ARCHIVED Corn Chex Is Now gluten-free!

My Walmart finally has gluten free honey nut chex! When I saw the box I was so, so happy! I am going to send my thank you email to General Mills right away. I am also waiting with anticipation for the Betty Crocker mixes. I can't wait for those!!! -
ARCHIVED Negative Diagnosis
Amyleigh0007 replied to seattlemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did your current doctor dismiss your previous Celiac diagnosis due to negative blood tests done recently? I'm not a doctor but I still think that if you were gluten free for 5 years your body healed and that's why your blood test was negative. The biopsy is the "gold standard" of diagnosis so if your previous doctor diagnosed you based on that then I would... -
ARCHIVED Negative Diagnosis
Amyleigh0007 replied to seattlemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps your body healed and that's why your blood tests are now negative. If you were gluten free for 5 years it might have been enough time for your body to heal itself. You wouldn't produce the antibodies anymore, therefore you would have a negative blood test. It might take awhile for your body to get damaged again, and to produce enough antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Surprise Benefits Of Going gluten-free
Amyleigh0007 replied to mikehall117's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me, I was surprised at how good I felt after eliminating gluten. I guess I didn't realize how bad I had felt all my life. I didn't know what it felt like to feel good (if that makes sense). For my son, I was surprised at how fast he grew! The doctor said that a 5 pound weight gain in one year would be excellent. He has now gained 13 pounds and... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing celiac disease
Amyleigh0007 replied to osmmommy3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A positive blood test is a positive diagnosis. There is no need to do further testing unless you want to. When my son was diagnosed through blood work we went ahead and did the endoscopy with small intestine biopsy because he had food allergies (but no outward symptoms) and we wanted to see what was going on inside, if he was having internal reactions. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Predisposition, gluten-free Since Birth -- Now What?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Anya78's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with swalker. I would rather prevent illness then treat it. My 20 month old daughter has never had gluten. I feel like my daughter is not missing a thing. We are a gluten free home and if she grows up only eating gluten free food then she won't know what she is missing. I don't want her to go through the same health problems her brother did.... -
ARCHIVED Clinical Protection Deodorant
Amyleigh0007 replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have used both the Degree and Secret clinical strength. They both worked well but I will stick with Degree. You get much more for the money. -
I also have a cheap one from Walmart. It makes two at a time and has chagable plates that can also make a toasted sandwich. I like it and use it all the time. The plates pop out and can be put into the dishwasher.

ARCHIVED Walmart Has Gluten-free Section Now
Amyleigh0007 replied to sixtytwo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in the greater St. Louis area and my local Walmart has started to carry Pamela's chocolate chip cookies and Mi-Del gingersnaps. They have always (at least for the past year) carried Des Boles penne and spaghetti pasta. But, unfortunately, that's all the special gluten free brands they carry. I hope my Walmart starts to carry other items. -
ARCHIVED Trying To Decide If Genetic Testing Is Worth It
Amyleigh0007 replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do believe my negative bloodtests were false. If we decide to do gene testing with my daughter I will get tested too, just out of curiosity. You are right about gluten intolerance. It is a sticky situation when there are no blood tests. The only way to know for sure is a diet trial. If we decide to do it we will go through Enterolab. Our insurance... -

ARCHIVED Im Newly Diagnosed And So Angry
Amyleigh0007 replied to ginnybean32's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You definitely go through anger before acceptance. You need time to let everything sink in. It is overwhelming at first but it does get easier. I felt extreme guilt after my son's diagnosis. I thought I was a terrible mother, that it was my fault, I made him this way and he was going to have to live this inconvenient life forever. I actually went into... -

ARCHIVED What If I Dont Get The Diagnosis?...
Amyleigh0007 replied to HelpinOhio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could have gluten intolerance which wouldn't show up on a bloodtest. If you don't like the answers your doctor gives you go to a different kind of doctor. I went to an allergist who was much more informed about Celiac and gluten intolerance than my primary doctor. She diagnosed me with gluten intolerance after my primary doctor blew me off when my... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Decide If Genetic Testing Is Worth It
Amyleigh0007 replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am also thinking about having my toddler tested for the genes. She has been gluten free her entire life. My husband thinks we should start adding gluten to her diet but I am terrified. Our 9 year old has Celiac and we went through hell with him before his dx. If she has the genes that will be a good reason to keep her gluten free. If she doesn't then... -
ARCHIVED Wal-mart Has Their Gluten-free List Online Now!
Amyleigh0007 replied to DallasJayhawk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That list is crazy. What is Walmart thinking??? In addition to the previous posters gluten filled findings, they have listed Amy's chicken noodle soup as gluten free. One of the first ingredients is organic flour! Huh??? I hope Walmat fixes this list soon! -
ARCHIVED Son Just Diagnosed With Celiac Disease
Amyleigh0007 replied to Mommy2Many's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Takala. I wouldn't sugarcoat the facts but I wouldn't scare him to death either. A 12-year-old can handle the truth. Tell him that if he doesn't take care of himself now that he will have major health problems later on. He might take the diet seriously if he realizes that he could have problems such as gas and diarrhea while out on a date... -
ARCHIVED How To Tell If Lunch Meats Are Gluten Free
Amyleigh0007 replied to heavy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If any kind of grain is added to meat it must state that on the package. It is a law. So, gluten will clearly be listed on the package if it contains it. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Were Diagnosed After Having A Baby..
Amyleigh0007 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had stomach issues all my life but I believe it was my 2nd C-section that was my trigger. I remember feeling bad a month after my daughter was born but I thought it was stress. I progressively felt worse until my son was diagnosed with Celiac when my daughter was 7 months old. We took gluten out of our home and I instantly felt better. After researching... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do For A Living?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Bosque's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I teach first grade. Let me tell you, I absolutely love, love, love my job but it's not the greatest job to have when you are a Celiac and you have accidently injested gluten! You can't just run to the rest room when ever you need to. When I am so tired I want to cry I have to force myself to have enough energy to handle 24 six and seven year olds. Parents...
