  1. I did my genetic testing through Enterolab. I do not plan on turning it into my insurance so they will never know about it. It cost $174 and that included the $25 shipping charge. Not only did I learn about my genes but it also gave me information about my daughter (my son has Celiac so there was no question about him). We now know she has a 50% chance...
  2. My son is on Singulair but it's not for his food allergies. He is on it for asthma. His doctor never once said the Singulair would help his food allergies. If you think you have food allergies you need to see an allergist and have testing done. I would request the blood test instead of the skin test. You can do a gene test through Enterolab for gluten...
  3. Thanks Kathy. This is the same doctor that dx me with IBS 20 years ago. He has blown off my gastro issues my entire life. I am done with him. If he says anything I am not happy with I am going to request my entire health file and start seeing a different doctor. I know MUCH more about Celiac then I did one year ago when I got my blood test so I am prepared...
  4. I started taking B12 to help with my fatigue although I've never been tested for deficiencies. It really helps me.
  5. I made an appointment for Monday! I wonder if he will give me a diagnosis or send me on my way with nothing again? We shall see.....
  6. I would LOVE to show my gene results to the doctor that did my blood test for Celiac. He pretty much said I couldn't have Celiac because I am not elderly and he brushed me off. My 9 year old son is not elderly either but he has biopsy proven Celiac. Go figure! Thank you so much for the information!
  7. I feel the exact same way mushroom does! I feel the lactose within minutes. I feel the gluten the next day. I always, always take Lactaid before I consume dairy, especially ice cream. I wish someone would invent Glutenaid to take before you consume gluten!
  8. This is my opinion only: I don't think going on the gluten free diet just to avoid junk is a great idea. You also don't necessarily eat healthier on the gluten free diet. It is very hard to follow and if you have no medical reason to follow it you will cheat. You will be tempted and give in and you will not set a good example for your son. You will also...
  9. I believe ELISA is an allergy test. I have never heard of York. Enterolab offers several food sensitivity tests.
  10. I noticed you have your gluten sensitivity gene test results from Enterolab in your signature. I just got my results for the same test back yesterday. This might be a nosy question but.... What did they tell you about your results? My results were as follows: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1: 0302 HLA-DQB1Molecular analysis, Allele 2: 0301...
  11. Hi sandpiper! I am from the STL area also! I hear you about the bloating and weight gain! I would actually have to change my pants at the end of the day becasue I would be so bloated! Once I eliminated gluten that problem disappeared. Now when I get glutenated and bloated it takes a few days for my belly to go down. I drink lots and lots of water and...
  12. Thanks for posting that. It's interesting. My two year old has never had gluten. My husband and I go back and forth about if/when we will give her gluten. Now that we know she has a gluten sensitivity gene we probably won't be giving her gluten just to stay safe.
  13. Right, 2 weeks isn't long enough. My allergist told me I would have to eat gluten for at least 3 months before a biopsy. I said no thanks.
  14. It sounds like your doctor is really on top of it. That's good. You are lucky. My main motivation to stay on the diet is my son. I must be a good example for him. It also helps me to think about how I will feel the next day if I consume gluten. I can't leave the house due to restroom issues and fatigue. Gluten just isn't worth it to me. What are...
  15. I would bring my own food and when people asked why I wasn't eating the catered food I would be honest. I would say I tried to explain to the caterer my special dietary needs but they were very rude and unwilling to work with me. Maybe if they get business taken away from them (who wants to have rude caterers?) they will be more open minded in the future...
  16. I had the gluten sensitivity gene test done. I have been gluten free for a year now and all of my "IBS" symptoms have gone away along with some symptoms I had no idea were gluten related. With my son having Celiac I knew I had a problem with gluten, whether it is Celiac or gluten intolerance. I am the type of person who needs solid, black and white evidence...
  17. When my son had blood taken for Celiac testing they also did food allergy testing. That is how we found out about his many allergies. Many people are lactose intolerant because the villi are damaged as a result of the Celiac. The enzymes that digest lactose are located on the tips of the villi. That's why they say to eliminate dairy when you are first...
  18. Can someone tell me more about these tonsil stones? I too have had them but I had no clue what they were!! What are they from? Why do we get them?
  19. I have never seen these before! They are great. Thanks for the link!
  20. It is co-authored by the founder of this website. If you have ads at the top of your page you will find the journal and more info.
  21. I have been thinking of getting an iPhone or Blackberry just for this list. Does anyone have it? If you have it, is it helpful?
  22. Exactly. Now the regular burger patties are contaminated. This has been a hot topic in my local support group. Many families get bun-free burger happy meals for their kids. Not anymore.
  23. The book Living Gluten Free For Dummies by Danna Korn is easy to understand. Her humor on the subject makes it an enjoyable read.
  24. Oh no. The fries debate again....... Brace yourselves...... The burger patties used to be gluten free. Now that they have the Angus burger, the other burger patties are no longer gluten free. There is wheat in the seasoning they use on the Angus burger so there is very high risk of CC. From what I have heard, the Angus is here to stay. It's not a...
