  1. My gene test results helped my doctor diagnose me with Celiac. I had already been gluten free for a year so all other testing was out. My son has Celiac, I had many symptoms prior to going gluten free. I had a terrific response to the diet. When my gene test results came back saying I had one Celiac gene and one gluten sensitivity gene my doctor said...
  2. I don't trust McDonald's to make a bunless burger unless I was standing right there and was watching them. They have messed up too many times or else they look at me like I have two heads. We eat their fries on a regular basis and have no problems. We also have shakes.
  3. My daughter is two and eats gluten free. We have no problems keeping her that way. She eats pretty much anything we give her. This is a great time to build healthy (gluten free) eating habits. Your two year old will never remember what a gluten filled doughnut tasted like so now is the time to change over. We eat McDonald's french fries and shakes...
  4. Thanks for the support. Most of the teachers already know about my son. But, what made me so upset was the way the nurse blew it off, like it wasn't important enough to remind everyone and inform the new staff. All I wanted was a gentle reminder not to give him food. I am hoping to have a meeting soon to set up a 504 Plan for him. My son is really good...
  5. My two year old has never had gluten. She does carry a gluten sensitivity gene and since I have the Celiac gene she has a 50% chance of having that too. That is enough to scare me. She is a very healthy, happy toddler and I see no reason to add gluten to her diet. She is doing just fine without it. She loves salad, fruit and veggies and is not picky...
  6. I am a teacher and Friday we had our back to school staff meeting. The nurse always comes in and informs the staff of any students who have medical issues and what needs to be done to keep them safe. Not one single word was said about my son (who attends the same school) even though he has Celiac disease and many food allergies. That really, really made...
  7. It seems really quick to jump to a biopsy. I know blood tests in young children are not always accurate but has she had them yet? Does she have any symptoms beside the failure to thrive? Is she eating plenty of gluten? A noninvasive test is genetic testing. But, it doesn't diagnose. It will tell you if your daughter carries the genes for Celiac...
  8. Hormel canned chicken is gluten free. It says so on the label. I have seen small, single use tubs of salad dressing at my local grocery stores. You could always pour a bit of the salad dressing you have at home (at know is safe) in a small tupperware type container and bring that with you.
  9. B12 really helps me beat fatigue. I know it has helped many here too.

    ARCHIVED Light Cases Of Celiac

I have never heard of a light case of Celiac. I have heard of people reacting differently to different foods. When I ate 100% whole wheat pasta I would spend the next 2 hours in the restroom and have to spend the next day in bed. When I ate something that wasn't so concentrated with gluten I would still get ill but it wouldn't be as extreme. Sometimes...
  11. Could you get a diagnosis based on your Enterolab results? If you have double genes and a positive response to the diet then I would think you have Celiac! My doctor did. He wouldn't even listen to me last summer when my blood test was negative (I didn't eat gluten prior to my test either). But, when I went back a year later with my gene test results...
  12. Good for you! When my son was 18 months old I decided to go back to school to finish my B.S. in education. It was hard. I worked during the day and went to class at night but my mom kept my son during the day and my husband was home at night. That made it a bit easier. I knew he was in good hands so I wasn't as consumed with guilt about being gone so...
  13. I live in a 99.9% gluten free kitchen. My husband can not give up his Doritos.
  14. Life does not revolve around gluten. Elle's mom had great suggestions for restaurants. Get on the internet and research restaurants in your area. Print out a copy of the gluten free menu (if they have one) so you are prepared. People are not going to think you are weird for having Celiac. They will probably be fascinated and want to learn more. It's...
  15. If you have been gluten free for a long time your low number means your body has healed. Consuming gluten for only one week after being gluten free for a long time isn't enough to damage your body and produce enough antibodies for a positive test. Your number went way down and that is awesome! Congratulations. Don't assume though that you can occasionally...
  16. Is barley considered a vegetable protein? I was told by a very knowledgeable person in my local support group that it is and it must be disclosed on meat/poultry labels per the 1990 FSIS rule. But, if you know differently please let me know.
  17. Right. The FDA and the USDA are different and have different regulations. The top 8 allergens do not have to be listed on meat products since meat is under USDA. Open Original Shared Link This is interesting and may answer more questions. It does state that if a vegetable protein is added to meat (i.e. wheat) it must be stated on the label...
  18. I used that exact same expression with my doctor on Monday!! I love it! He admitted to me that he usually only will diagnose someone with Celiac disease if they have smooth villi. Even with a positive blood test. That is very dangerous and I told him so. He went to med school 30 years ago and that is what he was taught. Perhaps these old school...
  19. The fries are gluten free. See the link below and click on McDonald's fries or search this forum for many, many, many, many, many conversations/debates about the fries. My son and I both eat them about once a week with no ill effects. Open Original Shared Link
  20. What about those car grocery carts for small children? My local grocery store has carts that have a Little Tikes like car built on the front. Those things are LOADED with cookie crumbs. Unfortunately, my 2 year old loves to ride in them and my 9 year old will often climb in too (he is small for his age ). Wet wipes or baby wipes would be good to wipe...
  21. Okay, I couldn't find the wording but I did find out that if a plant protein is in meat it must be clearly labeled. So if you don't see wheat, rye, barley, or oats listed on the label it's gluten free.
  22. There is a law (I'm sorry but I can't think of it) that says if there is a grain product in meat then it must be clearly stated on the label. When I called Cargill about the ground beef they supply to Wal-Mart they said the natural flavor was a rosemary tincture and did not contain any grains. Give me a minute and I will google and see if I can find the...
  23. I can help you with question #2! I had gene testing done as a last resort. My blood test was negative and I have been gluten free for over a year so biopsy was out of the question. There was no way I was going to eat gluten for 3 months to have one. So, as a way to gain more information about my health, I did gene testing through Enterolab. You do not...
  24. Stax are made on a dedicated line. There is no risk of CC. Frito corn chips are gluten free but not made on a dedicated line. Some people have issues with Frito Lay products because of this. My own son gets leg cramps when he eats too much Lays.
  25. I heard that the wonderful Gluten-Free we once saw on many Great Value labels will be no more. They are going towards a more CYA statement. The new white labels will say A Naturally Gluten Free Product and the products carrying that label will be fewer. That is such a shame. I often chose Great Value over name brands just because of that great Gluten...
