  1. 504 Plans and IHP's are good for allowing our children with Celiac other options when a class project or assignment calls for things our kids can't be around. For instance, in my son's school in 6th grade they do a huge project with paper mache. Of course, paper mache is a no no so I want him to have another option without being penalized. This year in...
  2. We eat Stax and Kettle brand potato chips. Both say gluten free on package.
  3. My doctor admitted that he usually doesn't diagnose someone with Celiac unless their villi are completely smooth. Even with a positive blood test. I told him I thought that was dangerous because if someone has completely smooth villi that means they are in the critical stages of Celiac. I asked him why he wouldn't diagnose someone who had mild blunting...
  4. Me too! I sailed through the beginning. I was on bed rest for both of my pregnancies for the last month. I had high blood pressure, dizziness, heart palps. I gained weight super fast with both, like 40 pounds just in the last few months (fluid retention). I had an emergency C-section with my first and a planned one for my second.
  5. Tinkyada is our favorite! I bet we have it at least 5 times a week.
  6. I spoke to one on the phone after my son was diagnosed and she gave me some websites to check out and wanted to schedule an appointment. I declined. My son is so picky about food and I didn't want him to feel like he was going to be forced to eat all different foods. We started slowly, substituting the foods he actually ate (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese...
  7. That is awesome!!! It sounds like his body is healing and he is absorbing his nutrients. One of the first improvements we saw with my son was the weight gain too.
  8. My blood test was negative but I went gluten free anyway. After one year I decided I had to know more. I knew biopsy and another blood test were out of the question so I did gene testing through enterolab. It was a good investment. My results showed I have one Celiac gene and one gluten sensitivity gene. I showed the results to my doctor who said he...
  9. Ah! Thanks for the info! I will order one of each just in case.
  10. I felt I needed an official diagnosis for several reasons. First, I wanted a health professional to acknowledge that I had a problem with gluten. My husband thinks my problem with gluten began after my son's diagnosis and that I was feeling sympathy pains, not a true reaction to gluten. That is not true at all. I had many symptoms of Celiac after...
  11. I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. It is difficult when our kids are sick and we can't help them. Your daughter certainly is showing symptoms of Celiac or gluten intolerance. Have you thought about testing through Enterolab? While it doesn't diagnose, it can give you pieces to help put the puzzle together. You don't need a doctors permission...
  12. I wouldn't toss it. As long as you don't eat it you should be okay
  13. Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to try it!!!!
  14. 100% whole wheat pasta would rip my stomach apart. I would be in the bathroom for hours after eating it. Of course I kept buying it because it was supposed to be better for you then white flour pasta. Geez!
  15. Enamel loss is a symptom of Celiac in children! My son also was on Miralax for years. It did nothing. Wow, our sons sound so much alike! My son is also well behaved and does great in school (a superior IQ if I can brag ). Except for the constipation, slow growth, and leg cramps at night he really didn't have other symptoms. I would recommend...
  16. Your son sounds ALOT like my son before his diagnosis. He would also go to the restroom once a week and it was a very painful process. If you read my signature you will see what foods my son is allergic to. It was a huge shock to get the Celiac and food allergy diagnosis. We didn't have a clue. As soon as we took gluten out of his diet he was a new kid...
  17. Thanks everyone! I feel vindicated! He seemed much more open minded then the previous times I had seen him. I think a lot has to do with his daughter going through med school and updating him on what's going on right now. Gfresh- I had gluten sensitivity gene testing done through Enterolab (no doctors order needed). It turns out I have a Celiac gene...
  18. Let me preface this by saying I am not a doctor..... Now, from my understanding, gluten intolerance doesn't produce villi damage and Celiac does (that's why biopsy is the gold standard for dxing Celiac). If you are having malabsorption issues I would think you have villi damage which means you have Celiac. If I am wrong, please, someone correct me.
  19. Has anyone ever seen a plastic bracelet like the LiveStrong ones for Celiac? I would wear one of those for sure. Edit: I just found one on the celiac center link.
  20. I always make sure I have plenty of Pamela's pancake and baking mix. You can do anything with it; make waffles and pancakes, bread chicken nuggets and pork chops, make biscuits. I also make sure I have lots of Tinkyada pasta on hand. The new gluten free Betty Crocker mixes are great!
  21. Thanks! I can't wait to get it!
  22. I showed him my gene test results. He said 30 years ago he would have laughed at gene testing. But his daughter is going through med school right now and she said that everything is being dx by gene testing. He said based on the gene testing and my positive response to the diet that he can comfortably diagnose me with Celiac. He said he was shocked that...
  23. Found this and thought it would be helpful to someone: Open Original Shared Link
  24. My pill bottle says take up to 3 pills daily. I take all 3 and it seems to be the right dose for me. I get the kind that dissolves under your tongue. The brand is Nature Made (I think) and they say gluten free on the bottle.
  25. I am getting an iPhone just for the gluten apps! Can you please tell me where you find the apps? I'm not sure what the App Store is. Thanks!
