  1. I thought of something else! I have a frozen lunch in the freezer at school for my son incase we forget his lunch or something would happen to it. It's Amy's frozen mac and cheese. It would be simple for someone to pop in the microwave and not have to touch (no CC risk). Even though I teach at his school, I still let his teachers know about the emergency...
  2. I am very lactose intoleranct. Lactaid is my best friend.
  3. Is it possible for your grandson to go on a rotation diet for the food allergies? That way he will still get to eat those problems foods, but on a rotation basis. My son is on a rotation diet for his food allergies and it is working fine. He eats the offending food every 3 or 4 days.
  4. Before his diagnosis my son had constipation. He would have a BM once a week and it was a very painful ordeal. His doctor put him on every med imaginable. As soon as he went gluten free he was regular and has been ever since.
  5. I'm not sure if this was mentioned (so much good advice here!) but I would give the teacher a box of gluten free cereal for graphing/counting/sorting projects. I teach first grade and have used cereal for those types of things in math. Emphasize the teacher should give your child the gluten free cereal FIRST, before she hands out the gluten cereal to the...
  6. Those were not the ones I was referring to. I was talking about the Beddar with Cheddar smoked sausage not Cheddar brats. I guess I was not clear.
  7. I was wondering about some Johnsonville Beddar with Cheddar brats I wanted to buy. The dreaded "natural flavor" was listed in the ingredients. I looked them up on the Johnsonville website and to my surprise it said Gluten Free! That was so easy! I wish it was that easy to find out if all food was gluten free!
  8. Red Cactus sweet salsa says gluten free on the jar and it is really, really good.
  9. Add me to the list. When I was 14 my doctor told me I had IBS and said my stomach problems were from stress from starting high school. What a joke!
  10. I found this quiz about gluten intolerance. Of course I would not take it too seriously but it is interesting. Open Original Shared Link
  11. Red Cactus Country Sweet Salsa says gluten free on the label. It is by far my favorite and the only salsa I buy.
  12. The endoscopy isn't too terrible. I understand your son is much younger then mine but my son has had two of them and both times were no problem. The bloodtests in children so young are not too reliable (they haven't been eating gluten long enough to build antibodies that would show up on the test) so if you really, really want to know you will have to do...
  13. My son's doctor said the same thing about his allergies. Since he was diagnosed with Celiac and allergies at the same time he said his immune system was on overload and most of the food allergies will resolve in time (how much time he didn't know). He is on a rotation diet. For example he will eat corn chips on Monday and not eat them again until Friday...
  14. Well said!!! When I go out with friends and family the focus is on having fun and spending time with loved ones, not the food. If they are going somewhere and I know I won't be able to eat anything there I eat before I leave and order a diet coke when I get there. It's not a big deal unless you make it a big deal. You set the tone. If you are comfortable...
  15. How did you feel before you started your elimination diet? What were your symptoms? I am confused as to why your doctor had you eat cream of wheat for two days in a row. An elimination diet typicaly concentrates on one food at a time so I wouldn't try to eliminate everything at once. If you do and feel better you won't know which food caused your symptoms...
  16. Why not just say he is gluten intolerant? People wouldn't question someone who said they were lactose intolerant so why would they with gluten? From your post it pretty much sounds like he can't handle gluten and feels better without it so that would make him gluten intolerant.
  17. I recently found this article online and thought it was one of the best I have read. The language is easy to read and it covers everything! It is by Dr. Joseph Murray, one of the leading US physicians in the diagnosis of Celiac. Open Original Shared Link
  18. I have eaten a Unos twice, at different locations, with very different outcomes. The first time was awful! They brought my son's gluten free burger out on a bun and when I asked about the bun the waitress paused, watched my son take a bite, and grabbed it away from him. She returned and said the bun wasn't gluten free (no kidding!) and they would make...
  19. That's right. That's why a long time ago doctor's thought you could outgrown Celiac disease. When kids went gluten free they healed, their symptoms went away and the doctors told them they were cured! They could eat gluten again! Only now we know that is not true at all! Once you have Celiac disease you have it forever.
  20. I am vacationing with friends at their condo for a week with my kids. I am bringing all of our food and I will purchase fresh fruit, meat, and veggies when I get there. It's not a big deal to my friends. I am bringing mostly frozen microwavable food so I don't have to use my friends "contaminated" pots and pans. I will bring foil for the oven so I don...
  21. I had never heard of Celiac until my son was diagnosed 16 months ago. After researching the disease a light bulb went off and I thought that's what might be causing my IBS. I went gluten free before getting tested (big mistake) and my test was negative. My doctor brushed me off but when I persisted he referred me to a wonderful allergist who knew much...
  22. My son is on a rotation diet for his food allergies too. He is allergic to wheat, corn, soy, egg whites, clam, and walnuts. He doesn't eat clam or walnuts at all and never has. He doesn't eat wheat at all since he also has Celiac. He doesn't eat egg in the whole form (i.e. scrambled eggs) only in cookies, pancakes, etc. Corn and soy are eaten in small...
  23. I don't think one week gluten free is long enough to skew test results. I would just begin eating gluten again until your testing is complete.
  24. Yeah, that's why I'm doing the gene test for myself. I feel like it's just another part of the puzzle. I refuse to go back on gluten (I've been gluten free now for a year) so I can have an endoscopy. I wish the gene tests weren't so hard to read. Good luck on Monday!
  25. So if I am reading your results correctly (practice for when I get my daughter and my results) you have one gluten sensitivity gene and one Celiac gene? And, because you have these two genes you are more likely to develop Celiac? Do you think you have Celiac?
